Great!!!!! Very glad to hear from you. There is nothing to be said at
a
time like this, except, I'm happy to know you and Celeste are OK. Talk
later.

Hi Roland and Celeste,
I am ok. No warning or anything. We heard someone in
the hall yelling, I thought someone was having a
fight. A lady in the office went to the hallway to
see what was going on. All of sudden she came back
into the office and told us to get out immediately. I
didn't even grab my purse which I am not sure where it
is - either locked in my cubicle or on the floor some
place. When someone says to get out - I move. We got
to the concourse and it was sort of chaotic - people
weren't really sure which way to go. I went with the
crowd through the Metro entrance - but down the stairs
rather than the escalator.
The aircraft crashed near the entrance (main or
North)that faces Rosslyn. Celeste: past where the
govt buses pick us up.
I walked to Crystal City to where I used to work (ILV)
and used their phone to call my boyfriend :- ), my
Mom, and Valerie. I stayed there for awhile and
watched the news.
Needless to say, the traffic was gridlock. But, I am
at John's right now, trying to calm my nerves. This
was deja vu of OKC all over again.
Take care. I'll talk to you both soon.
Beverly

<text>I was standing in the library with a class of third graders. We were in to our lesson when in walked a third grade teacher. It was not her class I was working with. She said "Would you please turn on a news channel?"
We have an in-house broadcasting system that broadcasts ETV and the cable out to the classrooms. I asked, "What channel?"
She answered, "It doesn't matter?" A cold chill went down my spine. I walked into the av room to the cable box and turned it to a local news channel. We turned on the television in the back room, away from the children and saw the first tower in flames. The teacher had just been on her cell phone with a babysitter who witnessed the first news broadcast.
There were first 3 adults in the backroom. I saw the second plane crash when it happened. I immediately knew this was not a random accident. This meant the United States was no longer the same. In an instant my sense of security was gone. I realized that our country was not ever going to be the same.
All day long every faculty member, every visitor came in and out of the av room. Everyone fought back tears for the sake of the children. All of us expressed the same desire to be at home with our loved ones.
The worst part of the day for me was when a pregnant teacher came into the room and started crying, saying,"There are children who won't be picked up from daycare! What's going to happen to them?"
We all wanted to go home and we weren't dismissed until the normal time.
Driving home I felt spooked. The roads were nearly empty! This is Greenville, South Carolina which has heavy traffic congestion, ordinarily. Downtown was deserted. People had left almost all businesses in the downtown.
I was so angry. I thought about what I could do to help my country. My only thought was drive to the blood bank
and give blood. I had never done so before. It was amazing! I had to park 1/4 mile down the road because of all the cars. All kinds of people were there. The media was there, too. Many organizations donated food and drinks for the hundreds of people lined up on the sidewalks to enter.
That gave me a sense of relief. Americans are stronger, I thought than the forces that wish to destroy us. This feeling was reaffirmed when my father, a World War II veteran later called me with the same message.</text>

              <text>Hi Sam and Nina,

Well, it seems we're finally getting a taste of what it's like to live in a
war zone, right here in New York. Thank God we are all safe, and so far, we
don't know of any close relatives or friends who were touched by the World
Trade Center/Pentagon disaster.

How has the news coverage been where you are? It's pretty shocking over
here. I can stand at a bridge near my job and look over the water, and see
the smoking skyline where the World Trade Center used to stand. Billows of
smoke fill the sky as if a sniper simply blew out those two buildings. I
guess that's really what happened.

In some ways, I think it's good for us Americans to be reminded of what many
parts of the rest of the world deal with almost every day. This is an
important wake-up call for us, to remind us to be aware of the rest of the
world, because we are all connected. Perhaps this will make Americans more
conscious of global politics. I wonder if this event will breed a whole new
generation of political science students.

We still don't know who's responsible for this, but I hope that we Americans
don't become hateful toward whatever ethnic group the terrorists belonged
to; after all, they were terrorists, not necessarily representative of the
views of their fellow countrymen. I suppose only time will tell.

It's a little slow and quiet here at the office; it was hard to get to work,
and a lot of roads are closed. Whenever we hear planes, we tend to get
scared because there are no commercial jets flying right now, so we know
that the jets we hear must be military. We only hope that they are friendly
planes, not foreign.

I was supposed to fly to Chicago on Friday, but now, my mom wants me to
cancel. I don't think it'll be unsafe, but if nothing else, there will be a
very long wait at the airport. I suppose she's right: don't fly immediately
after a national air disaster.

On my way to work, there was a lot of debris on the highway. I think it was
ash and detritus carried back by police and rescue vehicles that had been at
the scene of the disaster; it must have fallen off the cars.

How are you?

Jamie

<text>My name is Richard Pecorella and my fiancée/domestic partner Karen Juday was murdered in the WTC terrorist attack. She worked for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 101st floor. Karen and I met at an Indy car race in Nazareth Pa. on April 26th, 1997. It was a one in a million shot that we met. She was visiting her brother who is a racecar team member and I was going to my first race. I was in the middle of finalizing my divorce of a marriage of 24 years. Karen was visiting from Elkhart, Indiana. We were sitting next to each other in the stands. We started talking and she told me about her life in Indiana and I told her about my divorce. I asked her to go to dinner after the race and she accepted. It was the most magical day I could remember ever having-- I fell in love with a stranger almost immediately. She went back home to Indiana the next morning and I went back to Brooklyn, NY.
Five days later she called me and told me she was packing her bags and moving to her brothers house in Reading, Pennsylvania, so that we could be closer to one another and see each other on weekends. In six months my divorce went through and I asked Karen if she would move in with me. She moved to Brooklyn, NY on Sept 9th 1997 that was the day my life changed like I never thought it would. We became best friends, lovers, and we were happier than anyone could ever imagine. It was a fairytale relationship. We cared for each other and we enjoyed every moment we were together. I cannot describe in words the love and devotion we had for one another. We depended on each other for everything. We never had an argument. We never went to bed alone. We made decisions together, except one- I wanted to marry her right away. Karen felt my daughters were not ready for me to marry and she wanted to give them more time. I told her I would handle them, and she said, No-- they will turn on you. We waited and the kids grew to love Karen. We planned to marry on June 17th 2002 in Las Vegas, in a simple and quiet Chapel wedding. We never got the chance to say the words that we knew we already vowed to- Till death due us part… The events on 9-11-01 took care of that in an instant.
My life was shattered along with thousands of others. My heart and soul was taken away. I finally found the one and she was gone in flash. My life has been changed again forever this time. I will never find that heart and soul again- it was truly a once in a lifetime bond that we had. No money will ever change that nor do I expect it too. In the middle of all this the day I had the memorial service for Karen, my ex wife died suddenly and unexpectedly. This created a new and incredible challenge for me to survive as a person, and now my daughters lives are in even more chaos- they not only lost the woman they had grown to love and who made their father happy, but they also lost their Mom who loved them dearly. I now have to find the inner strength to get my family through all of this. Karen and I lived together for the last 4 and ½ years We were not only soul mates we were best friends and lovers.

I cannot watch anymore televised horror.

I go outside to water flowers. It is a morning of unsurpassable beauty and serenity. The warm September sunshine sheds golden light on the front wall. The sky is Colorado blue, birds converse as though this is an ordinary day, a breeze stirs the big purple morning glories that embrace our mailbox. I look for the sweet little garter snake that lives in a cranny in the wall. It is a shy creature with lovely greeny-brown stripes and a long, scarlet tongue that snicks the air when it senses me nearby. I tilt the watering can and weep.

Love,
Jane

Hey Garry, I am ok. But, it was deja vu of OKC all
over again. Tell Becky and Shannon that I send my
love. Please pass this email on to them.
Thanks,

Good Morning Roland,
Still on telephone stand by. Air quality is poor in
parts of the bldg. My office is in the 10th on the
"1st" floor, directly under the concourse (under the
cafeteria.)
My next door neighbor's office is in the 8th. Areas
bad are 2-6. Poor girl is a nervous wreck, they told
her to come back when she was ready. I am going to go
over and talk to her when she returns from dropping
her daughter off at school. She is feeling like we
felt after the bombing. I am holding up. I realize
now that I was in shock on Tuesday. People had asked
me did I hear or feel anything and I said no. One of
my co-workers told me that I had said "What was that?"
So, I actually did hear and felt the impact of the
crash. Then there was a lot of commotion in the hall
way and that's when we evacuated.
Celeste is in ACOT, so she is very safe! Celeste: I
called Deidre on Wed and told her if she needed
anything or if she needed to talk to call me. She
sounded very good and strong.
Thank everyone for their concerns and prayers. I have
received individual emails from different folks. I
miss you all.
Talk to you soon.
Beverly

Oh Beverly, how thoughtful of you to write us and let us know you were
OK -
I was so so worried, and lots of praying going on. Here is a little
something that one of DE SHERIFF's friends sent out, and I didn't see
your
name on it. I think you will really find some comfort in it. What a
horrible horrible ordeal for you - you have certainly been in my
thoughts!
Take care of yourself and rest Love ya, Marilyn

September 11

Don't Be Disturbed
"The Lord bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the
devices of the people of none effect."

  -- (Psalm 33:10)
You may be facing trouble today that's being caused by people who have
willfully plotted to do you harm. They may be trying to steal your
business, your home, your children, or even to destroy your marriage.
If
so, I have a word of encouragement for you. According to Psalm 33:10,
God will bring the plans of those people to nought. He will make their
devices of none effect. The counsel of the heathen is brought to
nought,
but the counsel of the Lord stands forever!

Remember this: When you make God your stronghold in the time of
trouble,
no one can overcome you. No matter how powerful they are in the
natural,
the odds are in your favor because you trust in the Lord. They may
think
they've got an edge over you, but God is on your side and that gives
you
the advantage!

Rest assured, you are eventually going to triumph over this trouble. In
the meantime, if you'll set your affections on the Lord, the thoughts
of
His heart continually will be coming into your heart. "The mouth of the
righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. The law
of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide" (Ps.
37:30-31). God's counsel will give you stability when all the world
around you is shaking. Evil tidings will not be able to steal your
peace. The thoughts of God will immediately rise up and rebuke the evil
tidings from taking root in your heart.

Don't let the temporary successes of the troublemaker disturb you.
Instead, "mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of
that man is peace" (verse 37).
