Watching with disbelieve, I prayed that this was only a terrible dream. I was completely in awe. What does this mean for our nation's future and it's children? What have we done to provoke someone to attack us in such an unthinkable manner. I knew at that moment that our country would pull together as one big family and work together to help each other cope with this tragedy. There is no doubt that 9/11 has changed our nation forever. Unfortunately, it takes a tragic event to wake our nation up and pull us back together as brothers and sisters under God. Everyday, I thank God that I am able to enjoy my children. And I remind myself that there are parents that have lost thier chldren on this day. I cannot image the feeling of losing children, parents, siblings or friends to such sensless death. I am even more proud to be American now for the fact that we are even stronger than before. Our leader has risen to the challenge and our military has placed thier lives on the line to bring the terrorist to justice. And especially, the rescue workers that aided our injured, guided others to safety and searched for the missing. The rest of the nation gave blood, money, food and so much more to releive all that were directly affected. This is what America is all about. We are undistructable and always will be. And I hope they all of us will relay to our children that "Love" conquers all. And instill in our children old fashion morales that they can grow with and in turn teach thier children. Our children are our future. I continue to pray for the victoms families and our nation. May God ease the pain through time and fond memories and help us to forgive those that have hurt us. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I had booked my car in for some warranty work, and I was supposed to be there at 8:30, but was a few minutes late. The dealership has a lounge at the back of the service department which seats about 50 people or so. I walked into the service dept., and literally no one was there! I heard people in the lounge and walked back there, saw some GM people crowded around a wide screen TV, and some of the girls were crying. A friend saw me and filled me in on what had happened. As we watched, the 2nd plane hit the tower, and all hell broke loose. The radio reported planes crashing in San Fran, Chicago, D.C., and PA. In fact, I'm getting that "cold chill deja vu" deal as I type this. The dealership sent everyone home, and I, like most, sat glued to the TV trying to make sense of the whole thing, seemingly for days. Later that day I felt the need to go to NYC, to offer what help I could, having a background in heavy machinery & transport, but was thwarted by the fact that the borders between Canada & the US were closed. But when I got home my mother and grandmother was telling me about it. I didn't know anything about it but I was listening very closely to what my parents was telling me. But I was thinking and about to crying at the same time because I thought it was a bad and sorry decision. I was feeling sorry for them people in New York . Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was driving to the office in Princeton, NJ when I began flipping around the radio for a good song. I put on my favorite radio station to hear the djs talking about a plane crashing into the World Trade center. The djs sounded so shocked and disoriented that I began to think that it was a practical joke. I did not think it was a very funny one, but began remembering the story of a famous radio hoax that made people think we were under attack by aliens. Many people, not realizing that the show was a story, really thought that aliens were landing and got scared and freaked out. I kept waiting for the usually comic djs to say "just kidding", but they didn't. I found myself stuck, just listening as they announced in horror that "another plane has just struck the other tower"! I couldn't believe what I was hearing and the car seemed to go on autopilot to the office. I remember the other djs not believing the one who announced the second plane crash. She was convincing them that it had just happened on the TV they were watching. All I remember was listening to the radio with my youngest baby sleeping in the back of our van. I called my husband on my cell phone. He was working from home that morning. I asked him if he was watching TV and he thought I was nuts and said, "No, why?" I told him what I had heard on the radio and he turned on the TV. He confirmed what I was hearing was true. By now I was almost at the office, where I just had to pick up and drop off a few things. My husband told me to hurry and to please, just come straight home. I don't remember anything particular about the office, just that it was weird how calm they were in the office and that maybe they hadn't heard the news yet. I don't know if I ever told them, or even what conversations we had, just that I had to get back into the car and hear the radio and get home as quickly as possible. Again autopilot drove me home. I pulled in our drive way having listened to the falling of the World Trade center buildings told by Peter Jennings. The radio had long since gone to ABC live to describe what was happening. The front door of my house was open. I came in in a rush. I called for my husband. No answer. I walked hurried through the down stairs. Still no answer. Then I ran upstairs, and still no one appeared. I was working into a panic, you see no one knew what was going to happen next. I was coming down the stairs, calming myself, telling myself that my husband couldn't be far and there was a reasonable explaination why the front door was wide open (something he never did). That's when I looked out the front door and saw him and our oldest daughter walking up the drive way. Anna had been at school, two blocks away, in her kindergarten class. He brought her in and said, "Now I'm going to go get Natasha." He lifted his keys off the holder by the door and kissed my check as he turned to leave. Natasha was our middle daughter and she was over at a local day care center for a few mornings a week. He didn't give me time to ask him any questions, and I didn't even try. I could see the look on his face. He wanted to get his family home, all his girls, in one place. When he came home he told me that some other parents had been at the public school too, also picking up their children. He told me that the day care had locked their doors and that you could not buzz yourself in like usual, so someone had to come and let you in. Again there were parents there picking up their kids. For the rest of the day we just watched, glued to the TV, tears streaming down our faces. The girls just coming up and touching us gently, knowing that something awful was happening even though they were only five, three and two years old. Just like at the office, the day kind of passed in a fog. I don't remember eating dinner, or even making any. I don't remember anything, just the TV, the towers and our family being together in our house. It was one of the saddest days in our lives. On the one year anniversary of September 11th, I was so surprised at my reaction. I had thought that the day would be fine and had planned all the things I would get done. That day I was astounded at how emotional, sad, empty, angry and disoriented I was. I'm glad that anniversary has passed. Tell us your story: I was at work and one of my co-workers turned to me and said that the person on the other end of the phone told her that a plane had hit the WTC tower. I was in completed disbelief thinking that maybe it was a cruel joke or a movie clip or something and before I knew it another co-worker came up the hall to my office and told me that a plane had hit the 2nd WTC tower. At that moment myself and almost all the office got up and went to the break room to the nearest TV set to see for ourselves what was happening. We all stood there together, some in disbelief others crying, some taking the persons hand next to them and some seemed ready to attack Bin Laden themselves on a personal level as I am sure most of our country was feeling and still does today. What seemed like only moments later after seeing the WTC headline on CNN came a headline announcing that the Pentagon had been attacked also, and the plane that went down in PA(All those brave souls on that flight that saved the White House and many more lives by giving their own lives so unselfishly). I could not even imagine what it would be like to get a call from a loved one telling me that there plane had been highjacked and that I would never see them again, completely uncomprehensible to me. Thats when real fear struck me, "What is going on?" How could this be happening to the United States? I was thinking we are not at war with anyone that I was aware of. Well, we are now and for how long we are not sure, until the Taliban are obliterated? When? Something I had hope my children (daughter/19--Son/12) would never have to experience in there lifetimes. Now I pray more than ever for our souls and our country. And the tears flow even today a year later at all the grief and pain and suffering that all the victims and their families have endured. Pain that has reached to every corner of this GREAT land of ours. I was quite upset at the thought of my brother working so close to the Pentagon. I immediatly grabbed the phone from my desk to try and contact my brother in D.C.......I tried on into the evening that day B4 I was able to get ahold of him. He was OK, but I feel now only due to the fact that my niece was giving him a hard time getting ready for school that morning and that set my brother behind schedule by 30 minutes, just enough time to miss being at the Pentagon when the plane crashed into it. Everytime I closed my eyes I kept seeing the clips from the news reels scroll through my mind. Those images will be with me forever, burned into a section of my mind forever, and I nor anyone else I know will be able to forget that day. But our memories are our own personal memorials to all those that perished on SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was oblivious to everything that horrible day. I was living in the Bronx at the time and going to school at Hunter College. I was listening to the Stern show before I went to catch my bus. I left at around 8:45. I walked to the bus stop, the BX 42, and got on. I sat down and literally as I sat down I hear the drivers radio and the voice saying something about the WTC. I get to my 6 train and get on, still knowing nothing. We pull up to the Hunter College stop and get off the train. For those who don't know the stop you don't have to go outside to get into one of the buildings, you can go right into the building from the train station. So I go in and head up to where my class is. I sit down and wait for class to start and within a minute I get three pages; 2 from my girlfriend and 1 from my mom. I look up to where the payphones are and theyre being used, I go downstairs to another set of phones and theyre being used. I go outside and find an empty phone. As Im outside I see everyone looking towards downtown. I take a look and you can see the cloud over the city. A guy has a car door open and his radio blasting. Then, probably more than an hour after the first plane hit, I heard what happend. I go back upstairs at the school and hear about the Pentagon now. I was in total shock and disbelief. I wanted someone to pinch me so I could wake up from the nightmare. I sit back down, blank stare on my face and total disbelief. The teacher from my class shows up and says "Listen, this is bad, try to get out of the city." The only thing I thought about was my girlfriend. The radio said that they may still go for landmarks around the city. She works down the street from the Empire State Building. So I get down to the train to try and get to her and they had just roped it off. So I hoofed it from 68th to 34th. AS I walked I thought about a lot:my girl being safe, all the people who were closer to this, all the people who were involved in it. People had their car doors open so others could listen to what was going on. For me one of the weirdest things was getting to the CBS building by FAO Schwarz. They had their window screens on with their news broadcasts. People were packed by there. They had these intense aerial views from down there. The big, black smoke cloud in the clear blue sky. Watching it on the screen and turning to my right towards downtown to see the cloud in real life was just a trip. Scared the hell out of me. I make it to 34th and go up to her offices. I walk in and all of her co-workers let out a sigh of relief. She was apparently freaking out because she didnt hear from me. We hugged and held each other for a few minutes. I let her go and called my family who lived upstate to let them know I was okay. We hung out in the office for a few hours and tried as hard as we could to relax. After a while we hear that no plane or anything should be in the sky. So we decided to go to the TGI Friday's down the street to grab a beer or two. AS soon as we get outside we hear this low, loud plane engine over head. We all kind of freaked and looked towards the ESB and waited for a plane to hit it. Luckily it was a military jet. We had our beers and watched more and more reports. Hoping for some good news of surviors or something along those lines. We left the place and knew we couldnt leave the city, so we just walked around. We watched people and listened to conversations. Crowds were all around vendors and lil stores that sold WTC merchandise. They knew this was the last time you'd find postcards and stuff like that with the towers not as a memorial. Eventually at around 5 or so they had limited service out of the city. We caught a train and got back to my girl's apartment in the Bronx. We turn on the news and just watched in disbelief the events of the day. We hadnt seen the video, just pictures. At around 8 or so I couldnt keep watching it anymore. I channel surf to try and find something else. I needed to try and lighten up and relax, even Comedy Central and Cartoon Network had news on. I turn on HBO and the X-Men movie was on. So I watched that and tried to leave reality for 2 hours. My cousin picked me up and I went back to my place in the Bronx. My dad was working that night so he swung by. I just said "I gotta go home." So I went upstate with him to escape for a few days. School was cancelled the rest of that week and the next week there was Jewish holiday so school was closed for a few more days. It was good to be home though. I saw my frineds and they welcomed me with open arms. Everyone knows our world changed that day. Our grandparents had Pearl Harbor, our parents had the Kennedy Assassination and our generation has 9/11. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I had over slept by about an hour that morning and was awakened by a call at 6:30 a.m. (PST) from my boyfriend. Since I wasn't fully awake I couldn't understand what he was telling me, so I just became irritable and snappy, asking him to repeat again what he was trying to tell me. After it sunk in I quickly turned on the television and was stunned to watch the second tower collapse. I quickly showered and got ready for work, but I was in a kind of shock. I remembered that I had to give two major presentations that day at work and I wondered how I was going to get through them. When I got to work there was security all over the place. We all tried to pretend and "act normal" but it was very difficult. We all felt vulnerable and completely shocked that this could have happened. Remarkably, I was able to complete my presentations, however, I went home soon after them. So did the most of the rest of my fellow employees. I remember thinking, I have lost my innocence regarding my safety and security in the USA.......I will never feel that safe again. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: It started out as a normal day. I woke up feeling, as usual, tired but ready for the day. I had no idea that, along with the rest of the world, I would remember this day forever. My morning classes continued as usual, with no mention of anything that had happened. I learned later that many other studets had been picked up by their parents, and taken home. No one was taken out of any of my classes, so I was oblivious to what was happening in the world around me. Just before lunch, at about 11:45, I had to give a project to one of my teachers. When I walked into the classroom a group of teachers were gathered at a table listening to the radio. I wouldn't have noticed this if they hadn't turned it off just after they saw me enter the room. I still didn't think much of it. When I got in line, n the cafeteria, to buy my lunch, one of my friends said to me, "There's been a threat to the US." Being myself, me reaction was to think she was joking. Of course I didn't laugh, it was a bad joke, but I said, "yeah, sure." But then I noticed that her face was serious. "I'm not joking," she said. That was when i realized that the cafeteria talk was not the normal loud noise. It was loud but, although I couldn't understand what was being said, there was an unusual silence behind it. I could hear people talking about the World Trade Center being bombed. At that time every emotion i have ever felt went through me - even, for a brief moment, a form a hysterical happiness. Finally it subsided to disbelief and worry. Not for my parents, i was pretty sure that they weren't in New York that day, but for all the people who had been. Later the school held an essemble telling us about everything that had happened. At that point i had no idea what to think. I felt that I had to control every thing I felt, because it was the only thing I had to grab onto. In truth I didn't want to be the one grabbing, but the one of the ones who still stood tall after this. When I got home my parents made sure I knew absolutly everything that they knew had happened. They also reassured me that my entire family was safe. The first thing I did when I got home was watch the news. As I watched the planes hit the towers on television a rush of everything that had happened to me that day came back to me. I couldn't get away from the news, no matter how hard I tried. I was sitting in my living room playing games on the internet when someone in the room came across the chat server and said, "Oh my god, the World Trade Center has been hit!" I thought for sure he was just joking so I turned on my television and it was all over the news and then the news of the twin towers came on and I knew that something was not right. My husband was at work and he called me right away and asked me if I had any classes that I had to go to and I did so I told him that I would carry our cell phone on me so if he heard anything about the terrorists planning to strike against Murray State University he could call me and I would come home right away. Well he never called but he was just as scared as I was. I will never forget the fear I felt that day. I know that all the families that lost loved ones in the buildings were petrified and horified over the loss. The only comfort I can give them is to say, "Now the ones who lost their lives in the September 11th terroristic attacks are in a much better place where they are not in any pain and they are much more happier than they could have ever been here on Earth. Just remember every night to thank God for the time that he allowed you to have with the lost loved member and that time will ease your pain. This day was different. As i walked through the cafeteria, there were groups of people looking at the televisions. i caught a glimpse of it and thought smoke stacks were on the screen. When one of the guy's at work said hey someone just flew a 767 into the world trade center. I didn't believe him I thought it was some shock jock playing war of the worlds or something because the guy that told me usually listens to Howard Stern and that type of stuff.A couple minutes later on of the former Marines at work said a second plane had crashed into the other tower then we heard the pentagonthen another crashed in a feild near a road.By this time everything passing for a radio was out and we were trying to hear what happend. because we take pride in our work and if somethings wrong with our planes we want to know about it! When we had figured out what was going on was real we started thinking about all those people we all know how many people each plane carries roughly,and the thought of crashing into buildings full of people we figured had to be something wrong with the plane we had never even considered that some MORON would fly an airliner into a building on purpose.What kind of helium head would do that! It was a bad day at Boeing.And a bad day all over the country. You wouldn't think that something happening on the other side of the country would effect so many people but I believe it has strenghtend the resovle of everyone in this country. Then there was another explosion that the TV correspondents thought was a bomb. I called my wife who worked on 38th Street two miles from the building and she walked uptown with countless others to her sisters apartment on 83rd Street and camped out for the night with five other friends and my nephew who had seen the whole tragedy from 23Rd Street. He proceeded to go to his office building next to the Trade Center until we convinced him to leave the area since he was coughing too much. That particular morning I had some car trouble, my alternator had went out and was making the radio fuzz in and out. I had heard something about the World Trade Center and didn't think twice about it. Once I got into the city, my vehicle eventually died and had to be taken to a repair shop, so I called into work and told them that I would be late. Upon arriving at the repair shop, it seemed as it everyone was in a state of panic, the radios were turned on, the television sets were on. Not knowing what was going on, I asked one of the mechanics what had happened. He then proceeded to tell me that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I was in a complete state of shock, and couldn't think of anything else to do but break down and cry. After composing myself, I was glued to the television. I couldn't believe that something so tragic could happen to the United States. I kept thinking that it was all a dream, I kept thinking that we are such a strong nation, nothing like this could ever happen to us. After I arrived at work, we were all given candles and joined the rest of the city in a memorial for the remainder of the day. My thoughts and prayers are with all my fellow Americans this week. My first thought was who was calling at 5:45 in the morning, my second was who died. It was my mother in law calling us to turn-on the tv. I woke my husband up and told him to turn to CNN. We watched as they started talking about the horrible accident of a plane flying into the tower. All of a sudden we watched as another jet flew straight into the second tower. We sat in shock, not believing what we had just seen on tv. That stuff is special effects for a movie not something someone would actually consider doing to other people. After the second plane, my first thought was to call my mother who lives in Brooklyn. She wasn't home, and I was getting very nervous. She was supposed to start a new job that day and I had no idea where. We sat and watch the images for a while. It was one of those things that was so horrible, but you couldn't stop watching. As the first tower was collapsing my oldest son woke up. He was only 4 and I didn't want him to see the destruction that had occured, so I made my husband turn the tv off, and started my day. I still hadn't been able to reach my mother. After dropping my son off at preschool, and being assured by the teachers that nothing would be mentioned to the kids I drove home to try my mom yet again. I finally got through and she was home. She had gone out to run errands that morning and vote in the primary before work. Of course by the time she had gotten to where she was going everything had happened and she didn't know. So I had to tell her. The rest of the day flew. I kept the tv off so my kids wouldn't see it. They wouldn't understand, and I couldn't watch it again. I realized later that I was in denial, because after growing up in the city there was sure to be somebody I knew that was now missing. Later that night we got a call from a friend of ours whose brother is an EMT for the city. He couldn't get a hold of his brother and knew he was at the scene somewhere. Luckily the next day he was found to be at one of the triage areas assigne dto help found victims. I was walking around in a dream state. Trying to act normal so my kids wouldn't have know of the tradegy, but grieving for everybody who was gone, and those that were left behind. I didn't cry until that Friday morning when on the car radio a firefighter from CA was talking about hearing all the PAS alarms on the trapped firefighters going off. If you listened closely on the tv you could hear them. They sounded like car alarms but were to frequent and too many to be alarms. Once I heard for myself I knew nobody was going to be found alive that all of those lives were gone, and wasted by somebody who could of cared less about what people are worth. Every day I hug my kids a little tigher than I did before. My husband I try to make sure that we always say a kind word to each othre before bed and before he goes to work, because unfortunately you never know. Tell us your story: As I was getting ready to start my day, our warehouse manager came into my work area and said a plane had just crashed into the World Trade Center tower. Nobody knew what to think. Then we heard a second plane crashed into the other tower. It was so unreal. Terrorism came to mind very quickly. After the next two planes went down, I was very scared. How many more planes were up there. The one that hit home the most was the crash in Pennsylvania. I live in Texas now, but I grew in Pittsburgh. I was in fear for the people on that plane, but they showed how true Americans they were. They wouldn't let that plane crash into anymore buildings. To be exact, I had just turned off of Waxpool Drive onto Rte 28 South when news of the disaster hit all radio channels. Before I could reach the exit for Dulles International Airport, the sirens began. And they didn't stop. Full of fear and panic, I tried to phone my significant other from my car phone, but the lines were jammed and I couldn't get through. Frustration - I need to talk to him! Seven minutes later my call went through. Could it be true? Had he heard? What was wrong with our phone lines? Did he hear sirens, too? What else did he hear? What? What? What? WHAT WAS HAPPENING? He was closer to the children's school that I was; he would double back to find out if the school and the student's were alright. All we could do was agree to stay in touch. Another 15 minutes and I'd be at work; but I never remember going through any stoplights that day. Don't even remember other cars on the road. With my radio turned to high volume, I only remember listening to newscasters on the radio. Getting ready to make my final left-hand turn, I was at the corner of R50 and Waples Mill Road when news came of the Pentagon. It seemed like seconds later, sitting in my office, the final plane went down in Pennsylvania. There was a dead silence throughout the building. Stunned silence. Shocked silence. Without asking, one incredible employee was already on his way out the door; no one needed to tell him that blood would be needed. He was on his way to donate - immediately. Being part of the Human Resources team, we needed to assess the office situation and address our disaster policy. But in the end, there was no assessment to be made. With 23 years in the field, I've never seen anything likeour response that day. Like most other businesses, nothing seemed to matter. NOTHING seemed important anymore but the focus on our people. Where did our people need to go to feel safe? If they were in the building and could grab the hand of a fellow employee, that was good. If they wanted to get to the one TV set up in the main meeting area and watch up-to-the-minute news in dead silence with co-workers, that was good. If they could get through to their loves ones by phone, that was good. If they wanted to leave, they just did. If they wanted to cry, they just did. Personally, I left as soon as possible wanting to retreat with my two teenagers to the safety of our own home. We stayed glued to the TV all day. We sat. We paced. I don't remember if we ate that day. It wasn't important. I do remember we didn't talk much. At least not on THAT day. We talked later about how much we love each other, and how safe we feel in our home, in our community, in our country. We talked about the sad families; we made pledges to help them because we knew we had to help. I explained extremists and terrorism. I think they used words like "silly, makes no sense, and what a waste." We agreed now was the time to think good thoughts. We agreed to follow the events, but we also agreed that it would be important to limit our exposure to TV and newspaper. Best of all, we agreed to hang our national flag in front of our home RIGHT NOW. We would need to get a smaller US flag for the mailbox. And remember one for Mom's car, and one for the girl's car. There's a tremendous amount of security in the red, white and blue. And the more we began to see, the better we felt. I was in the 6th grade and had just begun playing and was ready to learn all that i could about it. There were other kids there adn we were all practicing and goofing off and having fun, when some one came on the intercom and the droning of instraments stopped to listen, "teachers please turn on your TV's..." the drone kicked back up again and covored the rest of the message, it wasnt for us we didnt care. at 9:30 the bell rang and every one started to drift off to there first class. Conviniently my first class was Strings there on the stage so i didnt have to go any where, so i just continued to play untill my friend Tori got there. We made a little plan, she would open the curtains and i would play, it would be like a formal little concert for no one. So laughing the curtains opened as i played "ode to joy" when the curtains got about 3/4 of the way open, i could see that the nearest TV in the cafeteria was turned on. I looked more closley and saw one of the twin towers burning and then it switched to both of them burning, and then i saw a picture of a plane crashing into the second building. I stoped my song and just about dropped my violin. Tori was looking at me like "what the heck is rong?" and i ran down to the edge of the stage and jumped down and sat at a table and looked, i asked my teacher what happend and he said that a plane crashed into them. I asked why and he just looked at me. Then i remembered the intercom message, THIS is why they wanted the TV's on so eveyr one could see. In the next class they wouldnt let us watch the tv becasue they were afraid wed get to scared, in fact we all were, we were only in the 6th grade a bunch of 11-12 year olds, and my friend Alyssa was crying because her aunt worked at the school right next to the buildings, i told her it was ok and she told me that her aunt had a back problem (i think thats what it was) and couldnt run. That hole day, so many students went home, that they ran out of student aides to go and get the kids, alot of them were being called down over intercom or telephone, and every time the phone rang or the intercom beeped Alyssa would close her eyes in hopes it wouldnt be her, if it was her going home it ment her aunt was in trouble. at the time there were 1200 students in my middle school, by the end of the day about 500 were left in class. Neither me nor alyssa went home that day, not early at least. When i got home, my little brother who was sitting at the table with my grandma doing his homework said "oh wow the twin toweres were crashed did you see?" and i was like "duh" and just went to the couch and turned on the tv and watched. I have a HUGE family who is all from the new jersey/new york area, and we all knew that some one we were related to was going to be in the towers so i watched the footage i hadent see before of the towers crumbling to the ground. No more twin towers. I remembered the last time i went up to visit new jersey, and we landed in newark air port and i looked out the window and saw the towers and smiled. On our trip to new york durring my stay up there, we went to the empire state building, i took like 20 pictures of the twin towers. Remembering this i went to school september 12 with all of them and gave about 10 of them away to friends and techers, the others i left in my lunch box pocket. Later i realized, that they were stolen and that made me very angry after all that hate and some one could still steal all i had left of those buildings. When i got home that wednesday i started to get ready to go to my cheerleading practice. The phone rang and my disabled grandfather who was sitting on the couch watching tv picked it up just as i was passing through the living room. I heard the click of the telephone from the kitchen and me and my grandmother went in. "who was it i asked," he was crying. my grandma asked again "frank who was it? whats rong?" he just looked at us and all he could say was, "Pat... hes missing." I was racking my brain, who was pat, pat, how was i related to him, i couldnt remember. i asked my grandma and was told he was my fathers cousin, then i remembered all the storys that i was told about whne him and my dad were little. adn i started to cry, he was missing and later i found out no one we were related to worked at the WTC but that Pat a Navy man, was stationed at the Pentigon. I went to cheerleading and cryed durring break, and tried to laugh durring practice, but it was hard. The week went by and as the 8th grade tv production class made video after video, of pictures from new york, and the pensilvania feild, and about the hero's on the plane that crashed there.. and about hte pentigon. I cryed more that week in school then i ever had in my life, i couldnt watch those video's with out crying, and i had taken it habit to just turn my back on them. I remember one day durring that week i was walking to my bus stop and i heard a plane and knowing that htye werent sopose to be in the air i looked up to see a low flying plane fly over me, i knew nothing of air force jets, so i coulndt tell weather it was sopose to be there or not. I just ran. Was it going to crash and was i going to die? Planes werent sopose to be in the air! why was it? the local newspaper featured my grandpa. He told thme how our hole family had a little system to say what was up about my cousin, Pat and if he was found, his wife stephanie who was pregnate at the time with there 1st child would call Pats mom, who would call some one who would call some one, who would call us. The paper thought this was clever and it was. On the saturday following the attacks i was helping clean up after dinner, when the phone rang, I picked it up thinking it was one of my friends, "hello?" no one answered, "hello? any one there?" Then i heard my aunts voice, "Colleen, is yoru fahter there?" i told her yes and to hold on, I handed the phone to my dad and said, "aunt patty, she sounds sick," and the color faded from my dads face but he smiled and took the phone. i wennt strait to the couch in the other room and sat down. No one had to tell me what happend i knew by the tone of my aunts voice, they found pat, and he wasnt alive. I remember hearing my grandma shrik and start to cry. My cousin was in the Navy controll room, when the plane hit, he was with a few other people and his friend who was standing next to him, was the only one in the room to live, but with 42% of his body burnt. I was confused how he could live by my cousin could not. they were standing next to eachother. Ever scince my family has been very patriotic. At Pats funeral, my grandpa stood up in the middle of the serman and yelled "GOD BLESS AMERICA!" and had the church full of navy captines and relitives of ours burst into laughter, its how Pat would have wanted it, happy. THe fallowing March Pats wife stephanie, had there first child witch she named after the place they met, and her father. Alexzandria Patricia Dunn. She was baptized jsut as Pat would have wanted it too, out at sea, the place he love the most, on a ship he was on duty on at one time. I never actually met Pat, but i remember him as an extra motivation when i play my violin, thats what i was doing when he died, so it must be worth my time. Tell us your story: I was on the 106th floor of the WTC on my Birthday 9/10 doing Telephone Pay Tel. disconnect work, they were renovating the bar area of the Resturant, which most people did not know at the time. I had called my loved one at home and said to her "We have to celebrate my Birthday the weekend and i shall make a reservation. I had my tools on me and in my tool pouch i always keep a throw-a-way camera, which i took 2 pic's from my view looking out the window. I had to stop work for the day, i had to return work the next day 9/11. I left for the day. Rode the freight elevator down from 106 non stop to basmt level. Returned my pass, rode up out to church & vessey STS. My garage at the time was located 42nd st cor of 11ave.So i rode up the west side hway to 42nd st. Next day 9/11, i prepared my truck to return back to the WTC 106th floor windows of the world. I left at 8:15am, i just was so tired because i knew it was just an ordeal to go up there again, waitng on that long line on varrick st, showing my license, etc. I was in no hurry. I knew i should leave so i got ready to go, exitied my garage took 11th ave down which now was 8:25am. I then was in a bit of traffic........heading down there i noticed now i was around 23rd st.
