Tell us your story: I am a Computer tech, I am also a professional bass guitarist that played in the WTC Windows of the World Restaurant, I was working at One Liberty Plaza on this day and I was on the 12th Floor. I was working on the west side of the building that is facing the World Trade Center. Suddenly the first plane hit the Towers. I rushed to the windows to see NYC turned into a madhouse of Fire, debris, fallen people, windows, buildings, people....people...people....hanging from the windows of the WTC trying to find peace from the fire..... I turned to my supervisor and said that they are bombing the WTC and we should get out of the area ASAP and I ran around the floors to tell people to leave the building and go home......then an announcement came over the speaker for us to leave the WEST side of the building but not to leave the building......I went to the Internet to see if any news was on regarding the incident......then suddenly the second plane hit the WTC......the announcement NOW was to leave the building and escape the area ASAP...... I was looking for some of my friends to get our of the building.....I helped three pregnant women get to the subway safely....at this time we could not see and the place was a totaled mess.....heat from the second plane could be felted on the ground floors. Everything was disoriented and in disarray....I found the subway with these three woman and then took the A train to my sons school to go home?..there were people on the subway that had no idea that our world above them was falling to pieces and that it was indeed time to pray for God?s safety for their own lives....I picked up my two boys from school and traveled into Harlem, NY where a person gave us a ride to 125th Street near my home. When we got to 23rd Street everyone stopped to see a sight that I could never forget....it was the first building falling to the ground....I never got the name of this family that picked my and several people up on the streets that day.....but I thank Jesus Christ for seeing to my safety and allowing my family to remain. I lost several dear friends that day as well as people that I worked with in the WTC Restaurant. I am just thankful to God that I am here to tell my story. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: When that tragic event took place last year, I was at my job....Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, New Jersey. I had just finished making a delivery to the ICU wing on the 4th floor. I remember hearing from one of my fellow employees "Oh my God, a plane just crashed into the World Trade Center!" Right away I thought, "Right, sure, what's the punch line......but...there wasn't any....this was REAL.....VERY REAL. I quickly ran into one of the rooms where there was a television on and saw what was just told to me just minutes ago....I just went completely numb. Shortly afterward, I had to head back down to the 1st floor to continue my deliveries and between the time it took me to reach the 1st floor(by elevator), two of my bosses were standing in the hallway looking as pale as ghosts. I had asked if they had heard what had happened....and they said..yes Ray, and there was another plane shortly after that one and we saw it hit the other tower on live television! My God!! All I could think of doing was to quickly get to a telephone and call my wife and let her know what had happened. She had worked the night before, so she was very tired....but, with the news I told her she woke up very fast....and she became hysterical. I cried along with her and then we both calmed down. Shortly afterward I called my father to see if he had known what had happened...he did not know. And just as we were speaking on the phone, the next plane crashed in Pennsylvania. Right there I lost all control of my anger and sadness.....TOTALLY! Now, during all of this time it was announced over the hospital p.a. system that we(Bayshore Hospital) were put on Severe Alert Status, and that we would be getting various medical supplies choppered in from our main medical supplier Allegiance. A total of seven helicopters came at various times throughout the day. Gradually, we did start to get some patients(mainly walk-ins) in the emergency room. Various injuries from smoke inhalation,cuts and bruises and the like. I believe approximately 20 to 30 people were treated at the hospital. It turns out that no one ever experienced this type of emergency ever before...not even close. I had asked my boss what we needed to do....all she said was" This is new to me too, and I've been here for 25 years." " Just get what we need when we ask you too and we will do just fine...it will get very busy around here." And that it did indeed. In closing, I would like to say, although I lost no relatives or friends in the attacks, my heart goes out to all of those families who lost a loved one and to the many heros who helped in the rescue, recovery and massive clean-up efforts that took place: God Bless America and PLEASE LET US PRAY FOR PEACE!!! I had just gotten to work, turned on my computer when we heard the news. Not knowing the severity of the collision, but still very uneasy, we continued to go on with our day. Minutes later, we heard of another plane crashing into the second tower. Reality hit that this was not an accident. Cries carried throughout the building of co workers who had friends or relatives that worked at the WTC. As we all squeezed into a hallway to watch the television broadcast, all that could be heard were our gasps and cries as the first building collapsed. Then the second. I can't remember If the Pentagon was hit prior to this or after. It felt like a nightmare. Some of us went outside to contain ourselves. How eriee it was to listen to the silence of the air for the first time ever. Not a plane was taking off and only a few were landing. I couldn't stand not knowing what was going to happen next. Were there more out there? I needed to be with my family. I left work not caring what the consequences were. I just remembered how I prayed all of the way home. Later that day, I heard that one of the highjacked flights had flown directly over Cleveland. For some reason I did not have the radio on that morning. As I approached the Roosevelt Bridge I heard unusally loud jet engines passing overhead. I thought "this is strange," because I knew that was not a normal flight path for planes arriving into Reagan National. As I entered onto the bridge into Washington, I heard behind me a loud BANG, which i first thought sounded like a truck hitting a very large pothole. Once I got off the bridge, the scene on Constitution Avenue was contained chaos. Police, fire and Secret Service vehicles were speeding past each other back and forth in every direction. Only when I finally got to my office did I learn what had just happened, and that what I had heard was the sound of Flight 77 circling back over Washington and crashing into the Pentagon. My first reaction was thinking "how could we have let this happen? Isn't this why the CIA was created in the first place, the reason for its existence?" Then I remembered 1993 and thought "they just wouldn't leave them (the WTC towers) alone." Remembering as a child stories of ?WAR,? the first thing that comes to mind is the Vietnam War, thousands died and we still have no clue as to why. During these moments of silence and reflection God has allowed me to reflect on what was, what could be, and what is. Suddenly I?m reminded of his word when he said, live each day as if it was your last. So, I guess we should ask ourselves if this was my last moment in time, is this what I would want to be remembered for? Is this the place God would want me to represent him in, and am I doing his will? Uuummm! Interesting! This is not the time for momentary change; this is the time for a lifetime commitment to first self then to God. I say self first because we must always, after talking things over with God do a self-check and make the choice within, then the commitment of changing our mind set before coming to the throne. I say live! As if it was your last day! Don?t let the sun go down on your anger, but let it rise up in the truth of love, life and the pursuit of happiness, the things in which we were taught our forefathers wanted for us. Liberty and Justice for all- the blind balancing scales of justice should now mean something to us. For now we must stand united in Christ, not caring if someone is Black, White, Jewish, or Gentile as Martin Luther King dreamed to see one day. Right now and I hope forever more race does not matter, for the first time I understand what our country stands for. How sad it had to take loosing our brethren at the hands of those who do evil unto us! I believe in order to continue to build a United States- it will take each and every one of us- no matter race, creed, or color just as it will be it heaven. It was my best friend telling me to turn on the TV that "something was happening." I turned on the news channel and heard the reprt of the first plane striking the Towers. As I watched in stunned disbelief,the second plane struck. I couldn't believe my eyes. I called the school that I teach at to make sure that they were aware that America was under attach. They had already heard the news. I returned a call to my friend to have someone to talk to. She said, "I don't think it's over yet." A short time later we heard that a plane hit in Washington. We ended our conversation to sit and stare at the TV. Then the news of Pennsylvia. I'm 50 years old, recovering from surgery and all I could think of was that I wanted to fight back. I wanted to join our military in any position in which I could be helpful. I suddenly understood how my parents' generation must have felt upon hearing of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I cried, I gasped, I sat in silence. When reports came through that Bin Laden and his group were responsible, I grew angry, not at Muslims, but at radical muslims. I wondered what arrogance these men and others had to say they they knew God's will and were acting on His behalf. I have been wearing the American Flag pin on my clothing ever since. I have a flag on my door and on my car. I realized just how much I loves this country of ours, and I have prayed for those who lost their lives and for our leaders every day since. Tell us your story: I was just about to turn the TV off so that I could go to work, when, Katie and Matt (on the Today show) announced that they had some horrifying news that just came in. I decided to stay and see what it was. After learning what it was, I was in such shock I could not leave. The tears were flowing uncontrollably. After regaining my composure, I did finally make it to work at the University of Oklahoma. My colleagues had gathered around a TV watching the terrorist attacks unfold. About five minutes after I arrived, the south tower collapsed. It just continued from there. Needless to say, none of us accomplished a lot that day. A while later, I learned that Zacarias Moussaoui (sp?) was arrested in Norman. He was a student here at the university and while in school, he took flying lessons at the best flight school in the Nation which is also located in Norman. They say he has a connection with Osama Bin Laden and the Al-Qaida network. Because of these events that have occurred, I am now very leary of students and regular people for that matter who look like they could be of Middle Eastern descent. At times I just want to tell them to go back to their country because they do not belong in the United States. The day had already seemed to go by slow and boring. I got to my locker and then Dorrie, one of my good friends came to her locker, next to mine, with this surprised look. She looked at me with really big eyes ?Someone just blew up the world trade buildings!? I just looked at her like what are you talking about. I said OK and shut my locker and headed to my math class. I didn?t really know what was going on or what she said that. So I figured if it was that big of a deal then I would hear more about it later. I was in a hurry to class so I was like whatever. I got into math class and everyone was watching the news. Mr. Cook, my math teacher, kept telling everyone to be quiet so we could hear the news. On the TV was a big smoke cloud over the world trade buildings. I looked in the corner of the screen and it said LIVE NEW YORK CITY. I was still confused but as I watched they replayed pictures of the planes hitting the buildings. They informed me what happened. I was sitting there thinking was it an accident, was someone mad at us? It made no sense to me. People in my class were looking at the TV with this surprised and confused look. So many questions were going through my head, how could we have let this happen, where was the security at? I started to not feel as safe as I thought I was. I mean you?d think we have control over everything here and then something so horrible happens. How could this have been over looked so badly, so many times that day? What was the future gonna be like? Safer, I hope. Well after we saw the second plane hit we knew this was too impossible to be an accident. It was driving me crazy, people were asking question after question ?What?s going on Mr. Cook?. ?I don?t know but it?s bad.? Well everyone started to be a little more talkative near the middle of the class. My teacher didn?t make us do any work that day in class. I looked around the room at everyone?s reactions and I noticed people?s worried faces, of course some were like whatever. I looked behind me at my ex- best friend, Kim. She was scared and worried the most. The class started to get loud so I went up to the TV and sat in front of it so I could watch, the buildings were falling at this point. Kim had come up there too. ?I couldn?t hear the TV.? She said. ?Oh neither could I, the class was too loud.? For a moment we just sat there and watched. She was just standing there quietly. ?You want to share the chair with me?? ?Yeah, thanks.? So I scooted over, we made a comment every once and awhile then she started to cry. And so I told her it was gonna be OK. She put her arm around me and I did the same. ?It?s weird how a tragedy can bring everyone closer.? We both giggled, our fight had been resolved after about two months because something horrible happened. Well the day did go on but it just couldn?t be the same. All my classes it was mentioned. My teachers kept the TV on in the background, and if anything new happened we got to watch it. It was so unpredictable what was gonna happen next. It made the day depressing for me. I finished the day at school and went home, when my parents got home they were watching the TV the rest of the nigh. I decided I saw enough of the whole thing, all the planes crashing and the pentagon so I didn?t watch the news. I was on the phone with one of really good friends at the time and me and him were analyzing about the whole thing. Before I went to sleep that night I prayed that this would help people realize we could lose family and friends at any moment so we need to not have any regrets. I think the thing that bothered me the most was how the people knew they were gonna die and they called the people that they loved before they died to talk to them one last time. To receive a call like that would have killed me. It?s so cool how close and patriotic America has grown over the past year. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I live in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. The week of September 11th was on the way. Well that week I was very excited of going to Reno because my dad had a Navy thing there for the Uss Jupiter AVS-8. Its where all the crew on the ship meet and have fun. A couple days pasted and we were having a great time. At circus circus in the game area and walking around the city. It was just great. Just having fun. But the next day it all happened. In the morning my dad woke up first as he always does and he watched it for a couple seconds and started saying "Is this real" ,"Is this a movie" thats when I woke up when he started talking to himself. I was speachless. I couldn't belive my eyes. Then the second tower got hit and lets just say we couldn't belive what was happening. All our fun was gone after that day. We stayed in Reno for about 2 more days. Looking at the T.V and wondering whats going to happen next. When we tryed to find transportation to get home we had no luck we tryed the train and the airport. Of course the air port wouldn't let us go for another 3 days or so. We ended up takeing the bus all the way to Wisconsin Rapids. Let me tell you to never take a grey hound bus accross country. You will hate it with a passon. When we stoped at a gas station to take a break. We got out and when we came back there was a guy sitting in our seat. My dad said that was our seat and he said there wasent any desenated seating. That pissed us off. Because there isn't any desenated seating when you get on but we were already on the bus going to our dustination. Oh we tryed rent a car also. But there was this nice black man who gave us his seat. Very nice guy. By the time we got to Chicago we were very tired. We got there about 5 in the morning. we waited three hours for a bus to go to madison or stevens point but none came. Millwaukee bus did tho. we sat down and there was a bunch of flys on this one lady we were sitting next too. My dad said lets move to a diffent seat. So we did. The janitor was going around peaple that were sleeping on the floor it was pretty funny. well back to the bus. My dad went to service office and tryed to get there attention but they said somelike like "What do you Want" Lets just say my dad was a little mad about that. after he told the lady off the lady said we missed our bus. Thats when we gave up and called my uncle which lives in brigeport. but I was still waiting for the bus and i yelled saying our bus was here. But no such luck it was going to milwaukee again. The janitor tryed helping us out after that. The janitor was the only deceat person working there. He said he gave up also. So my uncle ended up driving us to wisconsin. Watching the terrible event made tears come into my eyes, but this was only the beginning of the devastation that I would encounter. After seeing how families were torn apart, I will never forget how children cried for their parents, sisters cried for their sisters, brothers cried for their brothers, spouses cried for their spouses, parents cried for their children. I think that touched the deepest of my soul, and the bravery was totally heroric. Today one year later, I can truely say that I was prouder to be an American than ever. I still have great faith in a mighty God, he still watches over us. He allowed this to happened but he only knows why. I will never believe that God will allow a man and evil to destroy his earth. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: When I first heard the tragic news I thought that this was not an act of terror, but a flying mishap. Upon discovering the reason for the attacks I was immediately outraged. Such a historical peace of New York and United States history was gone. I watched the tv and the mintues seemed like hours and the hours seemed like days. Is this really happening? Everyone asked themselves this question, and many could not cope with the realization that the world trade center was gone. I was so upset for the families of the firefighters and policeman. Their deaths helped me to realize one thing, that they are the true heroes. I always had looked up to athletes and other hollywood type stars. It is the fireman and policeman that make the difference. Had it not been for their amazing courage many more people would have died that day. I have an even greater respect for their job and what they do everyday. This is a day that will live in infamy, these were famous words that were spoken by F.D.R. 9/11 is a day that will more than live in infamy, it will be forever embedded in the hearts and souls of Americans for many years to come. One thing I would like to say to the terrorists is that they did succeed in changing the United States. They made it stronger. Tuesday, 11th September 2001 was a humid, warm and sunny day here in the east of England and just like any other. I was at work and I'd had a busy schedule for the day. I had arranged a buffet lunch for all the Managers and Directors of our Company to have while working through their meeting when come 2.00pm in the afternoon (9.00am NYC time) they had decided to break and take some fresh air. I was in the process of clearing away all the plates, cups & sauces when the phone started to ring in my office. Half way from the Conference Room to the kitchen with a tray full crockery balanced like professional waitress, I answered my phone to hear my boyfriend on the other end. "Where are you? have you heard the news? have you heard the radio? have you seen the internet?"... I answer no to all of these questions and by the urgency in his voice I get a bad feeling in my stomach and ask why?... What's happened?... "The whole bloody world is going mad!" "They're flying aeroplanes into buildings...the WTC has been hit...thousands of people are missing presumed dead some say upto 50,000...and they've hit the Pentagon...terroists have hit the Pentagon...and you can bet London is next..." I go cold and can feel the blood draining out of me "Are you sure?...the Pentagon? but how can anybody hit the Pentagon? Isnt it supposed to be one of the most secure buildings in the world?? If not THE most secure building in the world...I can't see or hear any news, there's no tv or radio in here..." "Get on the Internet...this is serious...I told you one day something like this would happen...you can kiss your arse goodbye cos what did I tell you?...I told you didnt I?...I told you the way things are carrying on...that this world aint gonna be here much longer...." Im terrified and confused. I try to log onto the Internet and the server's down. I forget about work and keep trying the net when eventually about an hour or so later I manage to log on. There's a picture of WTC1 with its top third of the building on fire...I read the home page of MSN in absolute horror as it unfolds in front of me. I feel phyically sick...oh my god...those poor people...oh my god...oh no, I can't beleive it...dont want to beleive it...what's going to happen now?? I go home. I cant concentrate. I need to put the tv on. I fear that World War 3 is about to start and I need to know what to do, what to expect, what the hell is going to happen...Is London next? I get in the car and drive the 25 miles out of the City and to my home in the countryside. The streets are unusually quiet, the traffic is unusually busy. News is getting round now and everyone seems to have the same idea about getting home...everyone wants to know what is happening with our world...a world that will never be the same again. I listen to the radio, the music is subdued and it reminded me of the day Diana (Princess of Wales) died...Everyone looks sad...worried...shocked. I get home and my boyfriend is already glued to the tv. Has been for some 2 hrs already. We dont speak, I immediately sit down beside him and we watch in silence as the time-table of events is shown to us time and time and time again on the news...I dont know what to say...I'm too shocked and numb to cry...we sit motionless watching the tv for the next 8hrs solid, I havent even taken my jacket off. Reports start coming through about a man called Osama Bin Laden from Afghanistan..."BOMB THE BASTARDS...BLOW THE WHOLE FUCKING COUNTRY UP..." my boyfreinds screams at the tv...EVIL BASTARDS!! It is then I start to shake and cry for the first time... All I can think about is "Dearest America...you are not alone...our hearts from our land go out to every single one of you poor souls that have had to suffer from this evil...together we shall beat them...together we shall destroy them...and we shall be victorious...unighted we stand with you America...shoulder to shoulder...you are not alone... Now a year has come round and I dont feel any different. I still need to read stories and see pictures of that dreadful day...I must still be grieving, although I know of no-one to personally greive for, only the world itself. In two weeks I shall be visiting NYC for the first time. I am nervous about flying but I shall do it. How you have coped and pulled yourselves round from such a devestating tradegy makes me proud of you America. You are always in our hearts. Take care and god bless you all. Tell us your story: I remeber that I was in the second period of the day and the principal came in to the room and told us that the World Trade Center Towers was hit by a plane and he thought it was an accident. Then we got to third period and I watched as the second tower got hit. I don't think I have every been that scared in my life. Then latter that day I also saw the Towers collapes on live tv. I don't think I will ever get the images of the plane hitting, or the towers collapesing, or the people jumping out of the windows I couldn't beileve it I litteraly thought I was dreaming. Well I hope my story has helped some one out there and God blesse those who died and those who survived and thouse who helped and God blesse America! We were just about to be heard when the magistrate got called to the back room because a p;ane had struck the World Trade Center. Everyone thought it was a plane accident, which would have been bad enough, but then the next plane hit. That's when we found out it was an act of terrorism. Everyone was stunned, no one thought this could happen in the United States. You could see anger and shock in the faces of people. Senseless loss of lives because of terriosts. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was 16 on September 11, I had never even been to the United States. It's weird, because I didn't know anyone, or see it firsthand, but I think about it all the time. People don't talk about it very much at home any more, but I think about it all the time. I think it really affected me; I used to forget to lock our front door in Winnipeg, but now I'm very paranoid about that, and about a lot of other things. Everytime I get on a plane I think morbidly about it- or if someone I love gets on a plane. I wouldn't have known about it actually, if I hadn't been on time for my bus that morning, usually I wasn't. My best friend had a weird expression on her face, she asked me if I had seen the news that morning, and I answered no. She told me that a plane had hit the World Trade Centre. I asked if everyone was okay, and she said "I don't think so, they don't know what's going on." When we got to school, we went to the library to find our teachers crying in front of a TV. At that time, the second plane was crashing into the tower. We watched the plane explode into the building over and over and over again on the news, they kept replaying the tape. When I see it now, or a cartoon of it, I find it very repulsive. I had taken American history the previous school year; it was required of an international higher level curriculum my best friend and I were taking- my American history teacher was so angry. The two of us turned around and took the bus home. Being on that bus ride was odd. Nobody else knew what was going on. I thanked God that I was Canadian so many times on the bus ride. We went to her house and watched CNN. We saw the close footage of people jumping out of the tower as it collapsed, there was footage on some channels of peoples' bodies on the ground. I think it's since been archived. We cried and cried all day for all of the people. By 1:00PM, we were crying for the Arab nations. I cried the hardest when they started reporting on the hijaked planes that were crashing into fields. I worked in a book store at the time, and that night I had a short shift. There was an hour at the end of the night where nobody came in. One man did come in at the end of the night though. I guess his plane had been cancelled. He approached the cash desk and pointed to the special edition Winnipeg Sun we had at the desk and desperately said "that's my home". I prayed to God not to let there be a world war, and I prayed and thanked him that my boyfriend was alright, and my mom and my dad, and my birds, and everything and everybody. And I prayed for the husbands, wives, parents, siblings, friends and children of all of the people who said they'd come home but went back to help. I think about it very often. Tell us your story: Sometimes you're asked where you were when JFK was assassinated; where were you when Neil Armstrong, of Apollo 11, stepped on the moon; where were you during the Apollo 13 disaster; where you were when the space shuttle Challenger exploded. I clearly remember all of them. With JFK, I was sitting in my social studies classroom in elementary school in Dallas (my home town) when the principal came on the intercom and told us President Kennedy had been assassinated. My classmates and I were really too young to truly understand the implications. The teacher had to explain what "assassinated" meant. I remember crying, but I wasn't really sure why. I hadn't yet experienced a death close to me -- not until the next year when my father's father passed away. And I remember crying. I was sitting on the floor of the living room at home watching TV when Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon. My Dad worked as a subcontractor on the U.S.S. Watertown (via LTV Aerospace) the refitted Navy ship that tracked the re-entry of the Apollo spacecrafts from their moonshots. I remember crying because of the accomplishment and my pride in my Dad's involvement. I stayed home from school on the days during the Apollo 13 near-disaster because my Mom thought my Dad needed the moral support. He was still working for LTV. We watched it all as it unfolded on TV. I remember crying tears of fear and tears of happiness when Jim Lovell and crew splashed down safely. I was sitting at work in a law firm in downtown Dallas on the day of the Challenger catastrophe. I remember crying like a baby. I still loved the space program then and still do. On September 11, 2001, I had already been very ill for a long time and out of work since May 2nd of 2001. My sleep cycle was off because of my illness. I tended to go to sleep very late and wake up very late. For some reason, on the night of the 10th, I went to sleep with the TV on, and, for reasons unknown to me, awoke very early -- about 7 a.m. CST. I was feeling, physically, very bad, but was watching early morning television news programs. While not in New York City, I watched it live as it happened. I was shocked beyond words as each new horribly intentional plane crash unfolded. I remember crying in disbelief and unconsolably. As reports of casualties poured in, I thought of my late Dad, who had retired from the Dallas P.D. as a civilian employee of the Evidence Unit (he was their firearms expert), my late sister who had been a Dallas Reserve Police Officer and my uncle, a retired Dallas firefighter. I remember crying even more unconsolably because I missed my Dad and my sister so badly. As the day continued, reports poured in that these deeds were perpetrated by Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, I then remembered something my Dad had told me and my sister over the years. (My Dad passed away from cancer after a valiant battle on June 28th, 1987 -- and, yes, I *still* called him "Daddy" -- even at my "advanced age" of 42.) My Dad had been an airplane mechanic, helicopter mechanic and long- and short arms expert and instructor during World War II for the Army Air Corps. He never served overseas as it was felt his talents could be better served on this side of the world. A lot of people do not consider a veteran like him to be a hero, but *I* did. He helped keep the planes in the air and he taught young men to shoot. Hopefully a lot of men and boys came home because of his talents and contributions to the war effort. My Dad always had great intuition and repeatedly commented that someday we'd be hit. We had "become too complacent," he said. In current memory, he said, we'd never really been hit on home soil by the "enemy" except at Pearl Harbor, but that Pearl was so far away, it was out of most peoples' memories and so many WWII vets were gone, and more dying every day, as recorded by Tom Brokaw (who is one of my favorite authors). As it turned out, my Dad was correct and I cried thinking about it and him and my sister as I miss them very much. My Mother, Iris Iwana Stovall Virgil, by the way, is still alive and missing both of them as much as I do. She was a WWII hero, too -- she was drafted out of the 11th grade to become a Western Union operator and served her country in that capacity. We *all* need to learn to be more accepting of each other -- worldwide -- but at the same time, have someone to guard our backs. We should be thanking EVERY firefighter, peace officer, all public servants, all persons serving in any branch of the armed services and never again take them or our freedom for granted. Freedom is a precious commodity in this world and September 11th, 2001 should have taught us this. At least I hope it did or all the deaths suffered that day will have been for naught. I've always been patriotic due to my parents' work during WWII and their stories about that war, but now I proudly fly an American flag every day, not just on flag day or the occasional July 4th. I've noticed flags weren't as prevalent today, a year later, as they were last year, which makes me sad. We're becoming complacent again. People want to forget the bad things and remember only the good. As someone once said (and I'm paraphrasing as I do not have an eidetic memory), "those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." I will never forget December 7, 1941 -- even though I wasn't there (or even thought of at that point) -- through the stories my parents told me. I'm one of the few people I know, of my age, who even cares about WWII, what happened then or remembers the veterans, but I simply cannot forget that day or those men and the victims of that war. My words may not be very profound in the overall realm of things, but, as with 1941, I WILL NEVER FORGET SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. GOD BLESS GEORGE W. BUSH AND GOD BLESS THE U.S.A. Tell us your story: I was sleeping in late and I heard the phone ringing repeatedly.I had a friend sleeping on the couch and he came in my room with this tone of anxiety and adrenaline.. he told me of a plane going into the WTC. We watched in horror the images on the television. Everything in the city was quiet. No traffic on the streets... no joggers... no planes... just quiet.
