Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My memory is a bit foggy, but I remember the majority of what went on this day. On the day of September 11, 2001 I slept through my alarm clock and woke up around 9:15am. I had a 10am class that day and being a commuter there was only time for a 10 second shower, a quick bite to eat, no phone call to mom, no contact with retired step dad, and out the door I went. During my freshman year in the Fall 01? semester I was really good about getting to class on time but something in my mind must have triggered myself to stay in bed a little longer. Due to my lateness I started the car pop in my 2001 graduation mix in my CD player and jammed on the way to school. While fighting for a spot in the A parking lot and winning, I quickly popped out the CD and put it away and heard on the radio, ?A third plane just crashed into the Pentagon?. In my rushed state I just laughed thinking that it was a joke that HOT 99.5 was making and hauled ass to class. I did not think anything of the radio announcement because I honestly wanted to make it to class on time. When I entered the Johnson Center, the center of our campus, I was distracted by the amount of silence in the building. The Johnson Center is an area of socialization; most of the time people can?t hear what other people are saying, but this day was not the same; it was quite in the building. I took the elevator up to the 3rd floor, and ran into class to find that there were only 6 other people sitting at the table. I saw Prof. Williams crying and staring at the TV. My heart sunk when I saw the tears come from her eyes, because I had no idea what was happening. Questions like, ?why was she crying? What is happening?? were racing through my head. I then got a glimpse of the news broadcast on the TV. There it was a replay of what had just happened but an hour earlier, the second plane crashing into the Twin Towers. After that replay the news showed what had happened only 15 minutes before class began, the Pentagon being hit by another plane. I sat down and just continued to watch what was going on. Students in class were in as much shock as I, no one said a word. I felt like I completely dismissed God?s message to me when I ignored the radio announcement earlier. I felt like he was trying to tell me ahead of time, but I wasn?t listening, I was just thinking of getting to class. I felt awful for putting something so important aside and putting myself first. Later I heard that at about 10:15am a fourth plane crashed somewhere in PA. Where are these planes coming from? I could feel my heart pumping as if I was going to do something to stop this. Fear was building up; I was scared that there would be planes attacking all over the states. I was wondering where would the fifth plane go? Shortly after the news about the Pentagon it really hit me, these attacks were too close to home, too close to where my mom works. I jumped up from my chair with my cell phone and began calling my mothers office. No answer. Again I punished myself, for waking up late and not thinking to call her before I left. That was our regular routine, I call her before I leave to tell her the plans for the day, whether I will be home for dinner or not and so forth. This didn?t happen, the routine was broken along with our Nation?s innocence. I felt so much weight on my shoulders, what if my mom had a meeting in the Pentagon today? Why was she not answering her phone? Did they evacuate her office building? I had no strength to walk back into class, I was afraid to see what else could have happened. Luckily nothing else did, but what was done was enough to make anyone go mad. Millions of people were killed; no one knew that the day would start like this. I did not know that morning when I woke up late the first plane crashed into the first tower in New York City. I felt out of place, it was the unknown that scared me; it was unexpected, no warning, a sneak attack. Then I made my second attempt to call my mother. No answer. I called the house and no answer. I was like ?Oh my God, is everyone gone and Mason is the only place still standing?? I remembered my parents always saying ?stay where you are and we will find you?. This was the way my sister and I were supposed to do things in case of emergencies. I hated this, but I stayed where I was. I continued dialing her number and my house, and it soon became a pool of busy signals. I decided to grab my things and leave class, I did not want to watch or hear anymore of this until I knew my family was ok. I was not too concerned about my father, he was in Paraguay, South America at the time and I just assumed since I didn?t hear anything about other countries being under attack I felt he was ok. However I was concerned about my step mom who was pregnant and worked in Arlington. No answer there either. I decided to call my boyfriend?s mother Sherry, just to talk to someone, she was like a second mother to me, and I felt I would feel safe if I spoke with her. She answered and immediately told me that my mother was ok and that the TV broadcasters just announced that the Government was let out and she was on her way home. I was relieved, my mother was ok; she is the most important thing in my life and for me to hear those words that she was on her way home made my heart begin to calm down. I was able to think a bit clearer. Sherry told me my mother knew I would be calling her, when my mother couldn?t get a hold of me she called Sherry. I believe I must have worried about every single member in my family before I stopped to think that people I didn?t know were dying and other people were searching for their loved ones too. I do not remember how my sister got home, or if I even spoke with her that day, but my immediate family was safe and sound later that afternoon. I do not remember how I drove home, but I remember people on the radio speaking of how this was a sneak attack by some terrorist group, called Al Qaeda. I felt so unsafe in my own country. I felt that terrorism just didn?t happen in our country, but yet it did. It became even more real when I got home and watched more TV. It became clear and real when I saw a replay of people jumping out of windows at the Twin Towers so they wouldn?t burn to death. It became real when the President spoke to the Nation and said, ?Make no mistake, the United States will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts?. This was real; I no longer lived in this ideological world of good and no evil. I saw it with my own eyes that this can happen in my lifetime, which it did happen. I always had this naive idea that nothing could happen to me or my country that I was always safe, that these certain historical things only happened in the past. I was living the tragic part of history that I never thought I would experience. For the next week or so all people could do was watch TV, to see if anything new would develop. I couldn?t, I didn?t want to see anymore. I was scared, were these people going to come back and attack again. My boyfriend Chris, at the time, would just sit in front of the TV watching all of the replays over and over again. Wasn?t it enough to see it the first 5 times? I think that Chris too was in shock and didn?t want to believe it so he had to watch it all over again. Like most people in our Nation we knew this was tragic and many people dealt with it in different ways, I for one wanted nothing to do with it except pray for those who died and those who lost loved ones. I was grateful that I had my family and that people I knew were safe and sound. Of coarse it was a small town and news spread around fast. The rest of the priod our teacher told us what might happened because of the attack. We might go to war, we might bomb the country who did this. And at this time we didn't know who did it. Well by fourth hour the whole school knew, and in every classroom we were watching the news. Then my friend started to get scarred, she was afraid that there would be a war and her Dad and her brother would have to go to war. We tried to calm her down teh best we could but it didn't work. We were starting to get scared and thought that we would get bombed also. Our teacher insured us that nothing would happened in Cornfield U.S.A.(That's what we call our town because it is so small.) Then a few years later, the same friends uncle was in the air force, and he got sent out, he plane got shot down, and out of the nine only three survived, luckly her uncle was one of the three. As I walked through the lobby of my dorm, I saw on t.v. what was going on, but the intensity of what had happened didn't really occur to me. I walked straight through the lobby with out stopping. After the ceramony my friends and I walked back through the lobby, but this time, seeing that the same picture was still on the television, we all stopped to catch the story. At first I was in awe of what I saw. We were all a little angry, but the reality i guess just hadn't set in yet. As the day progressed, it became apparent as to what had happened. I was in awe for the next couple of days, because I couldn't really believe that something like this could have happened. We were having our last class and were having a nice group talk in our religion class. The bell rang, so we all ran outside like screaming kiddies because another day of school had just ended. While waiting for our bus we heard people talking about a plane crashing in New York city, I was like, "Ah so what, that happens quite often, nothing big" But after comming home I realized how mistaken I really was. I turned on CNN because this is a great channel to follow when somethings up in the US (even though the news was on every channel) and to my surprise I saw it was about the plane crash. I saw the World Trade Towers, and I wondered what they were doing, and why in gods name they were on fire. It took me a few minutes for the shock to actually pass over me, but I realized that the plane had crashed into the WTC towers. I really felt like it was a dream, and I got all sick inside. It's funny that! I've never been to America, nor do I rarely think about it (only when I talk to internet freinds in a chat room). But I felt very sick inside, and even felt the urge to cry. Then I heard the reporter say that it was some kind of Attack (like the headline was, America under Attack) I nearly wet my pants. The most inpenetrable country, a country that has seen no real wars, a powerful and economically strong country is under attack? It just makes you realize how easily things can happen and how precious life is. While huddles infront of my TV with the rest of the family we saw footage of a second plane hitting the towers, my jaw just dropped I just could not believe what I was seeing! Was this another one of those Science fiction films played in New York? No! ... Then there was footage of the first tower collapsing, this was just toally heart wrenching, seeing people running, and screaming, dust flying everywhere. They were just playing the fottage of the plane hitting the towers over and over and over again... it was sickening to know that this was a terrorist attack against America, against the most powerful city in the world, against the American culture.... Then there was news of a third plane hitting the Pentagon, this was also very scarey, but I found the WTC towers just horrific, I was happy that the whole Pentagon building wasnt hit. And then a Fourth plane that went down in Pensylvania (which we heard later was headed for the white house and was actually brought down by the passengers wanting to do something against these terrorists). It just made me mad that people can do this. But then when the shock was over, you kind of ask yourself.. "Did America ask for this?" I can kind of say that the answer is "yes", how much it hurts to hear this, it is true. In the news all you hear is America bombing this country, America going to war against another country... I know America wants the world to be peacefull or something like that, and trying to be a "dad" for the reast of the world, but in the end it cost them 3000+ lives and scars in every American Heart. I truely want terrorism to end. Wars in Iraq, wars in Israel... I just want it all to stop, because it's all useless... what did Al Queda gain for these attacks? Revenge? Oh! Is that all??? What's the point?? None, there is no point. September 11 will be a day I will never forget, even though I've never set foot on America soil, I feel for the America people. I felt the horror that every single American felt. I asked the same question. WHY? And quite frankly I'm still waiting for the answer. I feel that this is not the end for America, that they will have to watch their backs, because terrorist groups will not give up. Now that the US has bombed Afghanistan, terrorists will want revenge and they have a plan, you can be sure on that. And I do not want to see what it is, I pray to God that this is the end of the attacks. But I fear it won't be. The past year and the years to come will go down in history as the most horrifying years in modern history. God be with us all. I was sitting at my desk and one of our engineers who is also a volunteer fire fighter ran into my office and said the World Trade Center was on fire. I quickly went into e-mail and saw a sight that turned my blood cold. We thought it was an accident, but as we watched, the second plane hit. Moments later we heard about the Pentagon. For the first time in my life, I was afraid. Only one week before on the 3rd of September my former husband retired from the Pentagon. He lost 32 people he worked with every day. My son, Jared Holz, is an advanced life support paramedic for Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. By a fluke of scheduling he wasn't working on the 11th. As soon as he saw what had happened, he packed a bag and drove to the city. He arrived after both towers had fallen. I remember thinking when I watched in horror as the first tower fell, this is surreal. It looks like it's melting. Little did I know. It was hours before I heard from my daughter-in-law. Jared was at ground zero for 3 days before going home to rest. He said everyone was so frustrated because they expected to be able to save and help people, but there was no one to save. Jared's sister, Rachel Johnson has contributed some of Jared's photographs to the Image Repository on this site. Those of us who hadn't been there could not really understand the scale of this disaster until I saw Jared's photographs. All the photographs that were published on the Internet during the days that followed 911 of the floral tributes outside our embassies around the world brought tears to our eyes. The outpouring of sympathy from around the world helped us to realize we are not alone. The strength of the people of NY and the DC area was uplifting to everyone. God bless America has new meaning for all of us. This site will be a new treasure for Americans worldwide. It should be maintained forever. We will never forget. We should never forget. I thought this was an accident but soon after I heard that a second plane had crashed into the second tower. I was immediately consumed with fear. Within an hour it was clear that America was under attack. I still think of all those people whom I have never met who lost their lives. I still cannot comprehend the depth of hatred that another human being can have to do such evil. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about this tragedy. Tell us your story: I was getting ready to go to college and turned the t.v. on when I saw that the first tower was hit, It didnt really click in my head as I was in shock as everyone else. I had called all my relatives to turn the t.v. on as I watched in horror as the second tower was hit, I was so scared for all those people. From that day I realized what it really was to be an American. I fly my flag proudly everyday. I will teach my children what it means to be a proud American, this has made our nation stronger and we realize that we are all one in this great nation. Tell us your story: MY EXPERIENCES OF 911 It was about 9:00 am and I was getting dressed for my 10 am sociology class, when I received a phone call from a friend saying that a plane had crashed in to the world trade center. She told me to watch the news on CNN so I did, however I was in such a rush to get to school to print my assignment so I did not pay much attention to it. Anyway she called back and told me that a second plane had hit the second tower, I was really surprised but I kept doing my thing to get to school. Being a new student to the USA and the school I didn't know that my school was so close to the W.T.C. I went on with my journey to school. However when the train arrived at Wall Street the operators informed that the passengers that because of the incident we have to evacuate the train at this point. As the operators opened the doors of the train I was so surprised to see ash blowing everywhere in the subway, I had was to put the end of my shirt over my nose and headed towards the street. I was very surprised when I arrived on the street the was debris every in the air, objects was all blowing all over the place, the sounds of sirens and seeing smashed windows of vehicles. Not even the police know where to direct us, this was very scary, I saw people moving in all different directions. Not knowing where to go I just followed the largest crowd, as I run/walked I recalled this woman screaming and shouting "where is the United Nations buildings". It was like in the movies; I actually thought that I was going to die. Realizing the depth of the situation and the geographic location of my school to the W.T.C. I started worrying for my sister who had left for a class half an hour earlier in the fiterman building. I was also worried about my girlfriend who works in the one Penn plaza. I tried calling both of them but to no avail, my cell phone could not work or no phone box on the street where I was. Things get a little calm as we head away from the ashes and debris in the air. There were people on the street handing out water and paper towels. The next major hurdle was to walk over the bridge to get into Brooklyn, I can recall that a police officer telling the crowd that they should avoid bridges and large buildings. Because there are other planes are in the air with the hijackers. It was so frightening to imagine. So I sat in a nearby park for a few terrified and worried about my sister. As soon as things clam down that is when US fighter planes were in the air we was told that it was safe for us to walk across the bridge into Brooklyn. As I walked with a group of ladies from Staten Island I tried to disguise my fears to help build their confidence. finally we manage to get across the bridge and into downtown Brooklyn, we the hitch a ride with some strangers to Nevins street. On arriving there were places, which provided bathroom services and phone calls. I made full use of this and call my sister to my greatest surprised she was home safe. My spirited had lifted greatly. As I went outside the facility I saw people on the street handing out food, drinks and other forms of refreshments. I then headed to the train station to get home, however only the L.I.R.R. was in service so I took it to the closet point and took a cab home. On arriving home I remembered that I was glued to the television and on the phone calling my family all over. Tell us your story: I was so excited to be traveling around Europe, visit places that I had only read about.....as a student in Washington DC my final destination was Seville, Spain. All day I had been enjoying the ambiance of Venice, Italy.....getting lost among the passageways, bartaring in the streets and feeding pigeons in St. Mark?s Square. My friend and I decided to stop in a bar around 7:00pm which means it is already 1:00pm in both NY and DC. What we see puts us into shock.....written across the bottom is written AMERICA UNDER ATTACK! But the rest of the news is all in Italian...We rushed to a local internet cafe where several other Americans were, like ourselves scrambling to contact friends in NY and DC and to find out not only what happend, but why. There as the story unfolded my tears fell as well. Even to this day the enormity of it all, the millions of people?s lives it changed forever and the future consequenses - weigh heavy on my heart. Two weeks later, I am still in Europe and the amazing support in every country is overwhelming. Complete strangers feel the need to convey their sympathy. For several days I saw all the flags at half mast and flowers pile the entry ways of all the embassies. Since I was here both before and now after the attack on the United States, I have seen a new respect develop in many Europeans. They see the wisdom of our leaders, the motivation to move on and the spirituality that resides at the core of it all. And now its not just Americans that say "God Bless America" but all the citizens of the World. I am an Air Traffic Controller at the Boston Air Route Traffic Control Center. I was working the morning of September 11, 2001. When the tragedies of that day began I was working a high altitude sector over Upstate New York. I never dreamed the events I was about to witness were possible. The situation began when another controller working the sector east of my sector called to warn me about American Airlines Flight Eleven (AAL11). "Don, keep an eye on American 11; we lost his transponder and nobody is talking to him." I turned on the "Primary Radar" which displays radar targets with no transponder and was able to monitor the position and direction (but not altitude) of AAL11. It was only a couple of minutes later that AAL11 turned about 150 degrees to the left and was heading for New York City. Not knowing AAL11's altitude or intentions, I immediately had to turn five aircraft in order to maintain at least five miles separation laterally. While I am working my sector to avoid AAL11, I'm thinking, "what's going on?" The only thing I can imagine is that AAL11 developed a major electrical problem and was diverting to New York City for an emergency landing. I was relieved from the sector and went on a break about 5 minutes before AAL11 crashed into the World Trade Center (WTC). As I was leaving the area that I work in, my supervisor said, "they think AAL11 was highjacked." I was surprised to hear this and really didn't believe it. How could somebody hijack an airplane in the United States? As I walked out of the control floor, I saw Operation Managers and our Traffic Management Unit Specialist manning phones. I am certain they were communicating with the FAA Command Center, New York Center, New York Approach Control and the military's North East Air Defense. I went to the building's cafeteria and sat down next to a co-worker. I said to him, "Craig, we're going to see AAL11 on the news tonight." Why's that?" Craig responded. I told him of the events and that the FAA was treating it as a hijack. Right then a manager ran into the cafeteria and turned on the television. CNN just broke for "Breaking News" and started showing live pictures of the WTC with smoke filling the sky. Before they said anything, I knew AAL11 had hit the building and that it was intentional (some deranged person). I looked at Craig and said, "Oh my God! I can't believe they flew that fucking plane into that building!" We sat there and watched in disbelief as the reporters were trying to guess what had hit the building and why. I knew what it was and that it was deliberate. Then to everyone's horror, on live television, a second aircraft flew into the other tower. I knew immediately it was not a deranged individual but a coordinated attack. I sat next to Craig for about twenty minutes, both of us watching TV in disbelief. When my break was over I returned to the area and returned to the same sector I was at before. It was not long after I sat down that somebody said, "the Pentagon just got hit!" Then the supervisor answered the phone and announced to everyone in the area, "Get everyone on the ground, nearest airport, we're shutting down the system!" The term SCANTANA came to mind. SCANTANA means that in the event of a war, we need to get all non-military aircraft out of the sky and turn off the NAVAIDs (navigational beacons). In very little time the skies over the United States were empty except for military aircraft. An hour later we were ordered to evacuate our building because of some threat. We gathered at a hotel just down the road and waited for further instructions. Three controllers per area were told to return to work; everyone else was sent home for the day. I was one of those who returned to work. It was very eerie walking back down through the control floor. We are open and staffed with controllers 24 hours/ 7 days a week/ everyday of the year and to not see anyone sitting at the radar scopes was chilling. I finished up the rest of my shift and went home to questioning neighbors and friends. At the time, I couldn't talk about it except to say, "yes I was working while it happened." Unspeakably. When I am at home alone, I still am caught by sudden tears. The news sets me off. Remembering locations in Manhattan stops me in the kitchen . . . the bathroom. I think back to September 11, 12, 13, and I cry somewhere between grief and stoicism. Days of tears. Swollen eyes. Heavy lids. Bloodshot rims. When will the muscle over my left eye stop jumping? And there is the guilt. The guilt of being a New Yorker, and not being in New York in this terrible crisis. I had to turn my eyes away from the television, away from the flatness of the grief on the faces of rescue workers. And worse, the news makes a show, a farce of it all, less than a month later. My students in class are acting out. Beyond stressed concerning midterms. Excessively verba. Laughing raucously about things that are not funny. Slowing down the assignments for them . . . for me. Sometimes I sit in my car at a stop sign, forgetting I am in my car. I?ve had the right of way at least twice and have lost time. My mind is on New York. I worried about my cousin Denise who works 4-5 blocks from ground zero (what a name for a place that was once busy and vibrant ? worked in Bankers Trust Plaza during highschool and undergrad). She had to return to work a week after the devastation because she works for board of ed/city. I talked to her about coming home for Thanksgiving. She got upset. Didn?t want me to get on a plane. She said she was afraid. I will broach the subject again later when all of this isn?t so raw. One of Denise?s children, Christina is dealing with all this in her own way. She?s 15. He was supposed to come home after working a 24 hour shift, but like all the others, stayed to help. I called him at the firehouse as soon as the second plane hit. He told me he did not know if he was going to what is now called "ground zero". At 11:00 I drove to the firehouse where there were 50 to 75 firefighters, mostly from New Jersey who had volunteered to help. None of them knew my husband. He was not there, nor was the Engine or Rescue truck. I then picked up my son from school and went home to wait. From ground zero, he finally called me at 5:00pm, it was then I knew he was alive. He gave me a list of men who were with him and asked me to call their wives. He called me again at 11:30 pm still from ground zero, and again at 2:30 am from the firehouse telling me he would be sleeping there. A 1/2 hour later he walked thru my front door and I ran to him, crying, both of us. He kissed his mother, went to our sons room, who has cp, and kissed him gently while he slept. He then got a change of clothes and went back to the firehouse. He came home on 9/13, the next evening, and while I watched him sleep, words came to me... Always Hope: 9/13/01 I sat alone in silent prayer for your safe return, the phone it rang time and again, twas not your voice i heard. But those of loved ones far and near, I had no news for them, I asked them all to pray for you, they said "of course" again. "Please Lord bring him home to me we have so much to do, please let me kiss his lips once more and let him kiss mine too". We sat together hoping, your mother, son and I, watching closely to the news, don't want to say good-bye. I jumped each time the phone rang, and when it was your voice, I cried and fell straight to my knees, your cried, you had no choice. "They're blocks away from danger" I told them like you said, "they're all together working, much work to do ahead". Tell us your story: 8:00 am, September 11, 2001 We were starting the first surgical cases for the day, it was a typical day, we were sharing the normal comradery that usually takes place between the Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, and the nurses, I was writing on my patient's and I casually mentioned todays date is 9-11, we all laughed and carried on with our work, little did we know that before the hour was up how our world would change, no American could have imagined the horror of the senseless terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Approximately at 9:00 a.m. we received word that it was believed that the World Trade Center had been hit by a bomb, we tuned our radio to try to receive news from New York, the reports were a plane had crashed into WTC 1, and within minutes another plane had hit WTC 2, the live television coverage of that second plane hitting WTC2 has played over and over in my mind, at that time I was praying for all the employees of the Twin Towers, I did not know at that time that many fire fighters, policemen, and other civilian rescue workers had lost their lives, trying to do what they do, to try to rescue others, putting themselves last, fearlessly entering the burning buildings to try to save as many as possible. The sheer number of casualties were overwhelming. My heart goes out to all who lost a family member, friend, or other loved one that day. I am still very resentful to those responsible for chaning our world, my Father fought in World WarII, I had heard him speak with pride that war had never been waged against the USA by foreign powers against on American soil, BinLauden or who ever was responsible robbed all Americans that day, we can never take for granted our safety, whether on ground or in the air. We have to pray to our Lord, Jesus Christ, for wisdom and strength for daily living. We cannot understand why this happened, we never will in this lifetime. My husband and I had planned a trip to NYC the week of Thanksgiving, 2001, while we were there we were going to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, we were able to take that trip, and twice during the week we went to Ground Zero, I felt a strong admiration for the workers working seemingly tirelessly 24 hours a day, digging so carefully, there was an eerie silence there, I felt that I was standing on hallowed ground, I felt the presence of souls there, it is hard to explain, that is why I told my husband, I have to go back at least one more time, I felt unrest at Ground Zero, I wanted to find some closure, but that was not to come. As our class worked on stories our principal came on the P.A. System and asked for complete silence because he had learned of an imprtant message. He said that an American Airlines flight had been hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center. This struck me really hard because as we were notified of this i was writing a story about terrorist. I immediately scraped the story in respect of the victims and their families. So our class immediatley walked to the Learning Resource Center were we watched the events of September 11th unfold. For the remainder of the day we began to hear different stories of what had happen. The remainder of the day was never the same as usual days. In this time of crisis Newfoundland really showed the world that we are great people,as many of ther international flights were redirected to St.John's and Gander,and many Newfoundlanders took these people off the planes and into their homes. I call my mom around 8:15 in Florida to tell her we had arrived at St. Thomas. I then called my grandparent's in Houston and told them the same. For the life of me, I couldn't picture what the "World Trade Center" looked like, but I knew it was in NY. I thought maybe it was a small plane that went out of control and went into the building. Finally at 1:00p.m. I saw the footage of the "World Trade Center" It was horrible. I was so scared. I didn't know if I should cry or not. I just hope something like that will never happen again! I was also studying Andy Warhol's work at the time... from there to these prints was just a natural progression. The images of the attack had been repeated so much in the media that people had been almost desensitized to its gravity. Tell us your story: On 9/11/2001,I was doing my usual commute to NYC for a doctor's appointment I had.I live in Middletown NY and use the Metro-North to get to NYC.The train was just about to pull into the Hoboken NJ station when all the passengers and myself were looking out the windows of the train in shock because we all were less than a mile from the WTC and could see the first jet hitting the North Tower of the WTC.About a minute later,the train pulled into the station and I immediately went to the edge of the Hudson River and seen the WTC and I took photos of it with a disposable 35mm camera I had on me that day.I then went downstairs to the PATH(Port Authority Trans Hudson) train and went on the last train to go the WTC forever.I was told later this train was destroyed.All the trains,cars,boats,subways were all stopped then.I got out of the PATH and used an emergency exit in the lower concourse of the WTC to get out of the building.By this time,the debris was flying and people and tons of paper and all sorts of objects were flying around all over the place.The cars on the road near the entrance to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel(This is next to the WTC)were not permitted to use the tunnels either so Manhattan was closed,no way in or out until the officials decided it would be safe to do so.I seen many cars totally bewildered by the amount of debris flying but the most horrible thing I seen was people coming down.The cars that were near the building was hitting the people and debris coming down and it was a giant mess.I walked up a ways from the WTC in awe along the West Side Highway and I watched the other plane hit the South Tower.I then just got into a cab and went to my doctors appointment.Traffic was moving very slowly but I was watching out the rear window of the cab and watched in horror as the South Tower of the WTC started coming down.In a moment or so,then I watched the North Tower of the WTC come down.I was in awe of the entire event.By the time I got to my doctor,the Mount Sinai Hospital was already loading up with ambulances and helicopters full of injured people.I was in and out of the doctors office in a few minutes and I then went back to the area of the PATH at 33rd St. and 6th Avenue.It is a block away from the Empire State Buidling and I was feeling very unsafe there.The city was closed until about 3:00 in the afternoon.By then,the first movement was the NY Waterway Ferry.They were allowed to bring people out of NYC to the Hoboken Train Station and/or Weehawken NJ.I got on the boat and was watching the giant cloud of smoke from the WTC filling the skies.I have photos of that also that I took from the ferry boat with that same disposable 35mm camera on the Hudson River less than a mile from the WTC.Thank you for your attention to my story of horror on 9/11/2001.
