Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I am a Detective Sergeant with the Woodbridge Police Department. Our Township is directly across the Arthur Kill waterway from Staten Island NY. It is approximately a 20 - 25 minute ride into Manhattan. I was at my desk at work that morning when I heard the first report of a plane "accident" on the radio. I thought, as those around me did, that the radio was playing a practical joke. However, in a few minutes I realized this sounded too real. I went to a news website on the internet to see a picture of the first tower burning. I was very upset, not believing that it was an accident. I began telling others in the office when I heard that a second plane had hit the second tower. I was now devastated, angry, upset. I went down to our Emergency Management Office to see the news reports. The room was full with approximately 25 - 30 Officers, and several civilians. There wasn't a sound from anyone. Is this a dream? Unfortunately we all knew it wasn't. In a few minutes our world changed dramatically. We were all thinking about people we know at Ground Zero. Were they safe? Then the first tower collapsed. We now knew that there would be an enormous loss of life. The second tower collapsed. We knew we must go help. Many of us went to Manhattan in the folowing days to do whatever was necessary. The site was worse than anyone could ever imagine. All of those working at Ground Zero ARE truly heroes in every sense of the word. We will never forget 9/11/01. God Bless America. Less than 6 weeks to September 11, 2001, I left Washington, DC, I behind my many dear American friends whom I called my great big "family" of hearts. My last "home" was a VOA housing up on Columbia Pike, where I was doing some volunteering and helping other Washingtonians and Virginians getting about their day. That place is only two bus stops from the Pentagon Metro. Right on Columbia Pike, gosh, I remember it so well. Met wonderful people young and old, those folks need help and support of moral kindness. Wished I could do more, but my Mom in Canada has been very ill so I decided to head home, took Amtrak Superliner to my other favorite visitor's spot, Chicago, Illinois then switched trains to Northern Express to Grand Forks, North Dakota, Canada's southernmost neighbor and best friend to the South. Along wit! hme, I took home, a toy American eagle from Nature's company store at the Pentagon City store, I called him, "Rummy." Gosh, I am gonna miss the states so much and I cried on the train, looked out at the great sights of Harpers Ferry, Washington skyline, and Chicago's skyscrapers, the Sears Towers, man ... this is America the Beautiful, now arriving to the golden plains of America, to be home. Just moved in my apartment on 3rd, still got my things in storage in Arlington, Virginia only a mile or two from the grandest favorite "the Pentagon" and had made arrangements to have my belongings transferred from Washington, DC to Winnipeg, Manitoba CANADA, arrived much later towards October. That morning, for four years I always had that 24K gold necklace chain round my neck, is gone forever. That is September 11, 2001. I was sleeping on the cot with lots of pillows and blankets, a bit like Scandinavia style of sleeping. I woke up, swore at myself, to get up, get up, get up, get up ... was "disturbed like an angry eagle" awaken by the angry spirits. That was 0735 CDT (Central Time) So I got up on my feet, my tee shirt and pants still on, made coffee on. Turned on my computer, saw my friend from New Jersey being online, I guess he was doing emails -- but he was supposed to be going to one of his classes that morning. At 0743 CDT, I was puzzled, so okay I decided to send him an online greeting, "Good Morning" and he told me all of a sudden, to turn on CNN. And I said, "What a morning why I am so upset, waking up like this, now what's on CNN? Another major earthquake??" He swore it is not a Clancy movie anymore, that the World Trade Center was hit by a ! jumbo jet. With awe and horror in my eyes, I could not believe what I was seeing, I knew it I swore to myself that I finally figured it out why I woke up in such an upset state. Then I was watching Aaron Brown of CNN, in New York with the WTC scene behind him, I saw another plane actually going in for the South Tower which I knew my friend Nicky was a worker of Cantor-Fitzgerald. I screamed. I cried all day, and worse when I learned of the Pentagon being hit, and God knows one of my friends over there might get hurt, God I hoped not! It did not turn out what I hoped that they are safe, as three weeks later I found out three of my Pentagon friends have died. Worse, my things arrived from Washington on Sept. 27th, some boxes had burnt smell, in my books, brought me sharp memories of September 11, 2001, right in my home! So I could not touch them until in late December, was not emotionally ready for it. Oh, I was torn apart inside since the sad day that changed America, the World and all of us here. I worried so much for my dozens of friends in Washington, DC for anthrax attacks, really scared for my dear friends' safety! And the war in Afghanistan did bring some hope and triumph but when American soldiers, I still cry. I cried so many times, every time I hear America patriotic songs, especially "God Bless America" and the pipes playing "Amazing Grace" also the bugle "Taps," too hard for me to take. This is too much, too strong to make me cry. Now my heart is so close to America, much closer than ever!! Especially to Washington, DC, once my home of 6 great years of those I studied there, majored in political sciences, ! loved every minute there! Tell us your story: I homeschool my 2 girls and had just sent them downstairs to the schoolroom to get started and was going to check my messages really quickly and close out my computer. On the voicemail was a meaasge from my husband saying, "Turn on the t.v.....It probably won't affect me, but it will be a long day for some people here.". The World Trade Center had just been hit and he saw it on the news. I turned on the news just before they reported about the Pentagon being hit - the Pentagon --- where my husband works. It didn't seem real. It couldn't be real. They had just delivered our household goods 3 weeks before. We had finished our tour in Hawaii and moved here for the great job at the Pentagon. We hardly knew anyone yet. The news just showed it over and over again. It seemed like a movie - people with faces grey from ash and rubble running away from the WTC. All those military men and women walking away from the Pentagon. I desperately watched for my husband to appear on screen. I prayed "please God, not him." My Dad had passed away just 7 months prior, to the date. I kept looking at my Dad's picture - thinking "Dad would know where Drew is right now." I was certain that my father would somehow be able to calm me with words of special bunkers and safe places and even statistics. I screamed for him to send Drew back to me. I begged. I prayed. And I cried. An hour had passed and still no call from Drew. I keep looking out my front window expecting some awful military car to drive up and say "we regret to inform you". Little did I realize that all this wasn't going to work like those Friday night movies on t.v. Two hours passed. I have now put a video on for the kids. "Thank you God for not letting them realize what was going on." The news is reporting that another plane is headed for the DC area. The phone rings... it is my friend from Hawaii asking, "Is Drew okay?". I barely choke out that I don't know. More phone calls. I keep answering, praying each time that it is him. Each call is a friend checking on Drew. Three hours have passed, the girls are eating lunch now. They are still in a bubble of not knowing. I wonder how long it can last. "Please God, keep them innocent from this." I decide that I need to call my Mom and tell her that I haven't heard form Drew. She is on the west coast and had not seen the news. She is mourning her husband and now her youngest daughter may have also lost a husband. Four hours and thousands of tears have passed. The phone rings and I hear his voice. "Oh, thank you God!" He says that he has to go away and I don't understand. All I can say is "I love you so much." I finally understand enough to ask if he is going someplace safe - he says yes, and he will see me in a few days. I had not seen him in a couple of years, so it was a party atmosphere, drank too much beer! The next morning, around 6:30 AM, he was pounding on the door, yelling "Get up and take a piss, Rick! The world's on fire!" I thought he was just torturing me, to see if I would get up, I sure didn't feel like it. But he kept insisting, said the World Trade Center was gone, collapsed. I was at home that morning of September 11th (which also happens to be my husband and mines anniversary)getting ready to start school with my daughter, when my husband called shortly after 8:30 to tell me to turn the TV on. "America's being attacked" he said. I ran to turn the TV on, and watched with millions of other people in total disbelief. I cried for hours and days.It's still hard to believe one year later. It's a day I think about often and will never forget. Being "our anniversary", I hope someday we'll be able to "celebrate" without feeling guilty. I was walking out of the bathroom, shaking the droplets of water off my hands, when I saw the TV on in the conference room, when someone told me about the planes. My sister-in-law was in a class at Bible College. They stopped and prayed. Someone I work with was about to go in for a job interview. She sat watching TV with the secretary. My husband was also trying to watch the TV on the secretary?s desk, though the screen was only an inch wide. It was difficult to see what was happening. My friend was working at a nursery school. Parents started arriving, crying, whisking their children home. My mom was in the church office. All she heard was "they bombed the Pentagon." A woman came in off the street, hysterical. My dad was in the car listening to the radio. He was tuned into this jazz station that had a morning talk show. They were looking for callers. The last normal thing he heard them say was, "Now how many of you have a relative that dresses like a pimp?" Call in and tell us. But they didn?t, because then there was this rustling of papers, and he said there was something happening in New York. My dad changed the channel. ? Like Wildfire I think of the ripple, or the tidal wave. From East to West ? office workers to carpoolers to kitchen dwellers to those under the covers. Someone tells someone who tells someone who tells someone. A thousand simultaneous gasps, followed by a thousand others. Hands go to mouths and to remote controls. The whispers: "Did you hear?" "What happened?" and varying versions of the same story echo, and overlap. Never before: so many fingers dialing, or dancing across the keys, trying to make the connection. A nation full of eyes entranced by the screen ? and uneaten dinners, and tears in pillows. 3/7/02 ? The Day After (September 12) At work the TV kept playing outside of my cubicle and inside my head. I fought fear with the mundane. I clicked on the keys and stared ahead at the haze of white screen. If I dared close my eyes, I saw buildings falling, fire, and airplanes ? in slow-motion; instant replay. That day there were no planes in the blue skies; no everyday worries about traffic or bills ? just my heartbeat and cold hands. Around noon Jenn gave me pink roses. At first they took me by surprise. They left me almost breathless. I got lost in the folds of intricately carved petals, blinded by the beauty and sweetness. In that delicious drowning time I prayed for time before life opened my eyes, and jolted me awake. 9/21/01 ? First Laugh We stood in the hospital lobby with lights and cords and microphones. Mark Tolosky, the CEO, stared right into the camera. An American flag pin was fastened to his suit. I can do this, I thought, breathing deeply. Glancing out the window, I could see the flag, at half-mast, shifting in the breeze. The camera rolled and soon my forehead grew sticky from the lights. Someone passing by said, "They just found firefighters alive in the rubble!" Please God, I choked, then swallowed it. We had to finish. Tolosky hadn?t heard. Instead, he cracked a joke. I don?t remember it anymore. I just remember laughing. These unused muscles squeaked into a smile. My stomach tickled and eyes watered. The laughter shook my insides and spread this warmth within me that lingered with the afternoon shadows. 11/20/01 ? Saturday (September 15) It was time to mobilize. On 96.5 TIC-FM, in-between "God Bless America" and the "Star Spangled Banner," people were calling in and urging us to stop at Big Y or the parking lot of Kay?s Beauty Salon. Drop off your bottled water and your blankets, your flashlights and your food. We?ll do everything we can to get it there. I donned my yellow gloves and began scrubbing mildew from the bathroom walls, furiously scraping in tune to the music, making the faucets gleam back my red face. Later, on my way to Wal-Mart, I saw firefighters collecting dollars in their boots. There was nothing we could do. So we followed a slapped together script patched with bits of World War II films and recollections from our grandparents. I could almost hear the narrator. At a red light this melancholy song from the summer came on the radio. The song spilled out from my open windows and through other open windows. This, I calculated, would be the emotional scene. Drifting outside myself, gazing down at the tableau, I wondered how long this would go on ? this detachment, this thin line of separation, like an egg shell. ? Lunchtime A week later we were sitting outside, the sun beating on our backs, eating tuna fish and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Above us the sky was a brilliant blue; one of those almost autumn skies free of summer haze. There were no clouds. In an instant the roar of a plane interrupted our sentences. Every one of us looked up ? our mouths slightly opened, squinting, expecting something none of us would ever put into words. We?d learned so quickly, this new reflex. The thought drained me and the flavor out of the moment. The sun was shining high and it was a beautiful morning. Then as usual I decided to turn on the TV, then suddenly and interuption comes showing the first airplane crash then the second. My family was asleep so I woke them up. I was bursting in tears and couldnt explain. I was devistated. I was alone downstairs in my living room sitting and watching TV and then suddenly the world id broken itno peices. My mom and I woke up my brother, sister and my dad, and even by that time no one in my family has seen the towers collapse. My brother not knowing of what happend told me, "why are you crying speak up baby, c'mon." I just stud there and turned on the TV. My whole family together hugged eachother and prayed for those who had lost their lives and had suffered in this horrible tragedy. Today people know that speking of this subject breaks me down and i cant imagine for the family and friends who passed away. Another thing that was extreamly scary was that my family and I went to New York only 5 days before 9/11. We passed the Twin Towers many times. Then my dad suggested, "why dont we climb the Towers again?" My brother, sister, and I just replied in a tiredsome voice," We've already went up to the top about 2 years ago, and anway it's not like there going to leave us please what could happen?" My dad nodded and on September 11th i was astonished and ashamed of what we said,"they're not going to leave us.." But sadly they did. This taught me that it doesnt matter if you done it twice or three times just do something three times so you'll never take things for granted. I will never forget the horror of watching the 2nd plane crash in to the south tower. Even now it seems surreal to me esp. since my nephew worked in the south tower, and I wasnt sure if he was there or not. To my relief I found out that he was not at work that day, as he had taken his wife to a Dr appt. Less than a week later he was killed in a motercycle crash when his bike hit debre when he had gone over to assist in the clean up at the site. So in a sence to me he was still killed by the terrorits. I still have a hard time seeing the new skyline in New York and the towers not being there. Tell us your story: On September 11th I was in my 3rd period clssroom at school. it was such an ordinary day to me and I think it was the same for everyone else in and outside of the twin towers, Pentagon, and airport. I thought that I was so sure that nothing was going to happen on that day but was I? Obviously not. My teacher was telling us about potential and kinetic energy when suddenly the principal came over the loid speaker, she told us the bad news and I could hear the terror in her voice. Then we were told to turn on the television sets in our classrooms to see what was going on. I looked and watched in terror as I saw the footage that had been played over and over and over again of the first plane hitting tower 1. Then breaking news showed a second jetliner hitting the south tower. I felt my heart sink, like a jolt of lighting had shot through it. All I was watching all day long at school was all the reaking news and watching all the planes hitting all different spots in the world. When school was out I rushed to the bus in which my mother drives and starteed to cry, she said I know it is hard for you but you have to calm down. I got off at my bus stop instead of waiting and riding the whole bus ride with my mom. I rushed into the living room and turned the volume all the way up so that I could hear of what had happened since I had left from school. My mom had had a tape in the VCR earlier that moring so that she could tape her soap operas but instead the second that the news came on she started to tape it. We have kept al of the newspapers from the rest of the onth of September 11th on. Two days ago was the anniversary of 9/11 and i've been guilty since because I couldn't light candles outside of my house because the wind kept blowing them out. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My name is Barbara and I was called in to work the morning of 9-11-01, and was told to turn on my television set. I was not prepared for what I saw, as the 1st World Trade Center building fell, I was in shock. I thought to myself I have got to get to my job in Grand Prairie, Texas @ Carter Bloodcare. When I got there, there were people already gathering in front of the door to our Center to donate blood. We had all of our television sets on to keep up with what was happening. That day, I will never forget the Unity and Love shown by all those people, those Americans united to help however they could! Those people waited patiently for 7-8 hours before getting their turn to donate blood in the event of this disaster, all the time those people pulled together to help donors and employees. All of the surrounding Grocery Stores furnished cases of food, and some of the fast food establishments sent food for the donors and staff. Those donors helped pass out food and emptied trash cans as they filled. The whole time, no one complained. I witnessed a Unity like none other! I would like to commend all volunteers for the hard work and long hours they put in to help on a day that no one will ever forget, a day everyone united to get through a day of great sadness over the many families that were broken because some terrorists felt they needed to fly our own aircraft into our buldings to kill Americans for some wicked reason. Thanks be to the Firemen and all those at ground zero, and thanks to President Bush for acting so quickly and being there for us and putting himself in harms way to be with those at ground Zero to provide encouragement, I feel honored and priviledged to have such a President!!!! We had just gotten back from our vacation to Ocean City, MD and I had taken an additional week off to relax with the kids and unpack. The kids and I, of course, we watching a movie when my husband called and said have you seen the news. I said no, we have been having breakfast while watching a movie and the kids were still in their pjs. I turned the channel on and thought I had just turned it to a violent movie. My children were 1 and 2 1/2 at the time and never realized that watching these images on TV would have an impact on them. But it did. My son kept asking what was wrong with the building and why did it have a boo-boo? We quickly realized that these images were just so unbelievable. To this day, I still can't believe it isn't just a horrible movie. Some of my family members have gone to ground zero, they have said every american should visit it just to understand the magnitude, loss, devistation and reality of it all. Someday, when my children are older, I do plan to visit ground zero memorial park when its developed and explain the devistation that has occurred on that day. My friends and me were in Earth Science just hanging out and talking because our teacher was not ready to start class. Then a teacher came in and said that a plane had just hit the World Trade Tower. I had no clue what the World Trade Centers were. Now after the planes have hit them I realize how important they were. The news showed live pitchers of ground zero. The pile where the buildings used to be is all smoke; you could not see anything because of all the smoke. I had heard that a plane hit the two worlds trades towers, pantheon and the 7th tower of the other building falling. I went and turned on the T, V, I saw people falling or jumping out the buildings. There was smoke and fire in the sky, buildings falling everywhere they landed very hard to the ground. The people in the buildings are very hurt, sick, and don?t know what?s going on. People died and they don?t even know why. The people that did live are very lucky because people who did die had to go through attack by the fundamentalists Muslims that they didn?t know who actually did it. People were very upset about the whole thing. People that did this need to learn how to be a person and get something out of their lives and not destroy our country. If they wanted to talk about their problems or what they have against us they should of tried to talk to us about it. Yes! They sent signs of warnings, but if they would of talked to something or us we could of explained. These people that died were working they didn?t do anything to the fundamentalists Muslims. They were innocent they had no right to die, suffer, get hurt. These people that did do it have problems because it?s not our fault. If they have problems with the government they could of talked to them about it. They shouldn?t have to take it out on the U.S people. Everyone was watching the news to see if his or her relatives were hurt or died. That would be very upsetting and sad if I found out that a relative if someone or mine I loved had died. People couldn?t believe what was going on. They didn?t know how to react. My friend April had an aunt and uncle that worked there and she was crying because she was in school and couldn?t find out much in school. Know everyone that go places are scared to go outside to go anywhere and that?s not right people shouldn?t have to be scared in their own neighborhood. This attack was very harmful and upsetting. I feel that this should have ever happened because we didn?t do anything to them. The government met of done something, but we didn?t do anything to hurt them. I think the whole thing is mostly because they don?t like our religion and wealth. Even know months later people are still worried what?s going to happen the next day, next week, or the rest of their lifes. I go to my first period class (Gym) with Mr. Hughes and everything seems to be normal. Once class ends, I begin to walk to my Tech class with Mr. Hatcher. I had already been to my locker so I had everything I needed that day. Even though I had everything, I was not ready for one thing that day. Mr. Powell, the shop teacher in the classroom over rushes in but still seemed calm told Mr. Hatcher that a plane hit the World Trade Center. I didn't understand. I was confused. How could a plane hit a giant building? Mr. Powell, I could tell, got increasingly more worried. He pulled out his cell phone and ran off. We stayed put in the classroom while Mr. Hatcher turned on his television to the news when we all saw the second plane crash in to the other tower. There was no explaining how this could happen. The first plane may have been a mistake, a miscalculation. But two? Then it hit me. This was intentional. It was an attack. A start of a new battle for survival. A few seconds after the second plane hit, I could feel a tear running down the right side of my face. I didn't even know it until it dripped from my chin to the table. It was at that point, it got so much worse. My father was in the Air Force as a computer programmer and had retired in Feb. of 2001. He had worked in the Pentagon for 3 years until his retirement. He was now working for a company by the name of AB Floyd located in Alexandria, Virginia. He had still been doing work for the Pentagon. AB Floyd was in charge of writing software for the military. He had been in the building a few times for the past few weeks. I don't know if he was going there on that fateful Tuesday morning. We were all watching CNN closer and closer in Mr. Hatcher's class and then the anchor said, "This report just in, another plane has struck the Pentagon in Washington D.C. It didn't hit me at first that my father was working there for a while now and whether or not he was there at the time. The bell had rang but no one left their seats. We stayed there, quietly, watching in horror. Mr. Hatcher told us to go to the next class so I proceeded to English with Mrs. Thrall. I got inside and the news was already on with a video of the World Trade Center Towers. That was when the most horrifying moment of my life happened. When those two gigantic symbols of American strength, freedom, endurance, and will, collapsed in front of my eyes. It was terrible. That was when the announcement came over the PA system. The principal announced that anyone that had a cell phone could use it to call home to make sure everyone was okay. I had never seen so many phones in my life. I had called home to make sure everything was alright but my mother said she hadn't gotten a hold of my father. I was scared. I asked for his phone number and she toldme and I tried for about 45 minutes to get a hold of him. No answer. I called the front desk office of the company and asked where he was and they assured me that he was in a meeting and he was alright. I thanked God that he was still alive. But there were other people at my school that were less fortunate. I prayed to God that they would all be alright and that we would be able to overcome the terrible day. Many innocent people were killed by cowardly terrorists who were destined to change American?s lives forever. Osama Bin Laden the leader of the terrorists sent 21 hijackers to send 4 planes into the World Trade Centers, The Pentagon, and Somerset County. The plane that hit Somerset County was not intended there but was crash landed thanks to the brave passengers of flight 93. I was personally affected by 9/11 because innocent people were killed. The people weren?t doing any harm to the terrorists they were just trying to do their jobs. Although I don?t know anyone who was killed in the attacks I can imagine what they are going through because I have seen many TV shows on the changed lives of the people who died. Flight 93 may have been one of the most tragic and bravest occurrences in all of the attacks on that day. The passengers on that plane may have saved many lives with their heroism. The people on that flight attacked the terrorists who were hijacking the plane and brought the plane down with no harm to anyone else. I think this is very brave because these people saved many other Americans lives and it wasn?t going to benefit them any because they were most likely going to die anyway. This plane may have been headed for the White House or another important building but the courageous passengers on flight 93 brought it down. The passengers of flight 93 have changed the lives of our generation because their bravery has inspired many people. I think that the bravery of the firefighters of N.Y.C. has also inspired many people. The people who live in New York are now are more proud of their city just like many people are proud of the people of New York. I think that 9/11 has showed Americans how our country can function when everyone works together just like everyone did in New York on that day. I think that if the country continues to be this patriotic and be aware of terrorism that no attacks will ever happen like this again. I think that if Americans fear more attacks then the terrorists will have got what they wanted, to make the people of America fear unsafe in their own country. I said just watching a westen with your son.I heard a quiver in her voice and asked her why,she then told me calmly: to turn the news on,so I did. Hi, my name is Debra A Jeffries and I am a manager at the Budget/Ryder-TRS Car & Truck Rental nation wide reservation center. We reserve cars and moving trucks all over the USA. As we all know, the planes were grounded that day and several days afterwards. America needed to get home to thier loved ones. Our lines were so jamed, we could hardly keep up! People were crying to us, saying that we HAD to get them home. That we were thier only chance. As an Air Force Vet, I knew that this was the begining of war on our turf as we never knew it. It seems that my training took over, as I began to cover the reservation floor helping with as many calls as I could. Staying calm, reasuring my Agents, sometimes with only a "look". They knew what I meant. Men and Women were telling us that the towers were comming down and to please get us home. With so much of America trying to get home, our fleet was shrinking...and fast! We quickly turned to our truck fleet. Yes thats right...we were sending people home in 15 passenger vans, saying to them all who are going West, North, South any direction, get in and we will drop you off as close as we can. They were traveling in Cargo vans, 15', 24' empty moving trucks with only prayer and the hope of getting home as fast as they could. In the days that followed, new policy after new policy came down from our top brass, after all we never had to do anything as vast and heart wrinching as this before. When it was all done we all here at Budget felt that we had made a difference and helped to get Americans home. We will never forget any of the Americans and our world-wide friends that did not make it home that day, but we take PRIDE in the fact that they will always have a safe "HOME" in our hearts. Everything was just a typical day until I heard on the radio the news that the World Trade Center in New York had been struck by a plane. At first, I sat in disbelief, then listened even more intently as a second plane hit. I called my girlfriend at her job to talk about it, then called my dad who lives in Florida to talk about it and just to hear his voice. I searched for news web sites on my computer and quickly went to ABC News. I immediately thought of my 2 cousins who work in New York City - one as a broker and living near the World Trade Center, the other as a public relations representative. I called my aunt and uncle to see if they had any news on my cousins, but since the phone lines were not working in New York, especially cell phone lines, they had no news. Then the plane crashed into the Pentagon and more sadness filled my heart. America was being targeted and we had no idea who was behind this evil. More time passed and a then the news of a plane crash in Pennsylvania. I thought of all of the people who lost their lives, their families, their friends, the men and women who gave their lives in rescue efforts. It was surely a day that would forever stay in my mind. I heard later that day that my cousins were ok in New York, but they were at a big loss since they had lost many of their friends and business associates. I was filled with sadness that day, and disbelief, and anger. Many of those feelings linger, but I can say that the American spirit lifted the hearts of people around the world. We need to keep that spriti alive in all of us and bring everyone who was involved in this horrible tragedy against the United States to justice. We need to continue to value life and our freedoms as much as we always should have - not just for the moment. We are proud to live in American and should be proud to have a President that truly cares about all of us and is a genuine person. God Bless America! Tell us your story: Watching television on a weekday morning is something out of the norm for me because I'm usually working or on the computer at that particular time of the day. But for some unknown reason, I turned the TV on that fateful morning of 9/11 and I just STOOD in front of it. When I saw a plane fly into a building, I became confused and began to wonder if I had made a mistake and turned on one of the Movie Stations instead of the Local Station, like the number on our cable box was displaying. Then I HEARD about what had just happened to the First Tower at the World Trade Center. Like so many others, I could not believe my eyes when I saw that plane crash into that staturesque building right in the middle of downtown New York City! The image was so SURREAL, yet I remember thinking, "I can't believe that I picked THIS day to watch morning TV and actually WITNESS this plane crashing into the WTC Building. AND it's BEFORE I hear it from ANYONE else OR see it LATER in the evening news"! I thought to myself, "If this is a joke, TV has REALLY gone TOO FAR with this "Reality" TV crap and this is SICK!!!" But when it FINALLY "sunk in" that this was NO JOKE, I'll NEVER forget that gripping feeling of POWERLESS. Well, as shocked as I was then, it was still NOTHING compared to how I felt just a few minutes later, when I watched the "live" news coverage of the NEXT airplane flying into the SECOND World Tade Center Building. As this was happening, I surmised that the pilots on the plane HAD to have been DRUGGED or something, in order to fly through an entire building like that with PEOPLE on the plane! Immediately, I KNEW that those people on THAT plane HAD to have DISINTEGRATED INSTANTLY!!! The weirdest thing about it was, at that time it hadn't even DAWNED on me yet, that there was probably people in the building AS WELL! It wasn't until I saw the Live News coverage showing the footage of all the chaos of Emergency Vehicles and Crews desperately trying to get INTO the building to put the fires OUT, that it finally "HIT" me there was MORE PEOPLE up there besides the ones on the PLANE! I just kept shaking my head "NO!" and saying, "Oh, my God!" and "God, PLEASE HELP them!" and "Help all those PEOPLE!" Like so many others, I NEVER could have imagined what was going to happen to the second WTC building in the next horrendous moments to come. My stomache was already so NAUSEOUS and I stood there UNABLE to MOVE! I was so sick, yet I was frozen to the point that I couldn't even sit down! My knees were so weak, but still I couldn't sit down. I so tired of standing for over 2 HOURS now, AND STILL, I couldn't sit down! I felt like I was going to PUKE! AND STILL I COULD NOT SIT DOWN!!! I cried.....I prayed.....I shook my head "NO!" in disbelief.....and no matter what.....I just could not sit down. I can't write this "story" without feeling like I'm going to "throw-up". I can't write this "story" without sheading many of tears. I can't write this "story" without shaking my head back and forth in disbelief, while saying "NO!". I can't write this "story" without praying for all those people.....the ones who died.....the ones who didn't.....the ones who DID IT! I can't write this "story" without feeling SADNESS for my Country. I can't write this "story" without feeling HAPPINESS and PRIDE whenever I see our Nation's Flag. The "Hole" that was left at "Ground Zero" is as big as the "hole" that is left in my soul, and that sick feeling of Powerlessness that remains there still. I've never been to New York...OR Pennsylvania...OR Washington D.C., but THIS I do know. I have a "calling" in my soul to THIS VERY DAY. I know I must someday GO to these places and...let that sick feeling in my soul go away...let my head shake back and forth and say, "NO!".....let my tears uncontrollably fall...let all my prayers for those who died, those who didn't, and those who "did it"; RISE UP TO THE HEAVENS along with those beautiful Lightbeams at "Ground Zero"...and finally...let my heart feel HAPPINESS and PRIDE every time I see my Nation's Flag. We had just finished our lesson when the owner of the stables came running up to me asking if I was from New York. I told her that I was actually from Chicago. She then went on to tell me that someone had blown up the Pentagon. To be honest, I thought she had misunderstood, since the Pentagon isnt in New York. My friend and I went back to her house and turned on the news immediatly....I could hardly believe it. I had been so homesick prior to the 11th that I was really depressed, and and that point I was desperate to go home. I had never felt so helpless. I was in a state of panic, because at that time there was no way of knowing how many planes were still in the air and my sister worked in the Sears tower. All I could think was that they might go for that building as well. Luckily, my family was okay. All I can say is that I wish that there had been more that we Americans in other countries could have done. I gave what money I could, but I wasnt allowed to give blood because of the fear of BSE.
