The morning of September 11th I was in the bathroom getting ready for school when my mom and dad screamed whilen they were watching t.v. I rushed out to see what was going when when i saw the first plane already hit the tower and the smoke and ashes were everwhere. My mouht dropped with shock as i saw the second plane plumit into the second tower. My whole family sat in front of our television terrified for the lives of the people that were in the WTT. I was in a point in my life where i didn't really care about history and political issues because i was young, but this trragedy effected my life so now i appreciated things more. I also have become less nieve about siuations that happen. I am more cautios to the things i do and i also apprec iate the things i have in life so many people lost that day on September 11th. There are many things that should be remebered about September 11th. i think the main thing that should be remembered are the people that were suffered in this tragedy and also the people who now dont have a dad, husband, sister, wife friend, or some one that they cared about. I was working at the Bonham Building of the Florida Department of Revenue when Shelly Davie,a co-worker,stated she had just heard on the radio that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I prayed silently for all involved and those like me who heard the news.I called my adult daughter, Melanie Foster, who was home that day. Then I went back to work. A little while later we heard the news of the second plane. Several co-workers gathered in the conference room to watch television. I burst into tears as one of the towers fell because I had friends in the NYC area. I later learned that of the six people I could have lost, one was killed. I also remember my husband,Doug Hatfield ,calling me on that terrible day from his job at Sears. My name is Mary Catharine Hatfield and I wish my memories of September 11,2001 to be used to perpetually remember the innocent victims. Do not believe anyone in the future who tries to tell you this was a hoax or that the United States of America provoked this attack. My favorite poem about September 11th states "Courage doesn't hide in a cave,You can't bury freedom in a grave." My worksite raised $2000.00 with a yardsale for the American Red Cross. My daughter and I also gave out candles for the American Red Cross at a rally on the evening of September 12th at Tom Brown Park in Tallahassee,Florida. I,like millions of Americans put a miniature American flag on my 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and my 1997 Toyota Tacoma. Even now,I have a flag sticker on my 2002 Kia Sportage as a reminder to myself that my fellow Americans and citizens of many other countries were murdered on that day. I have never taken my freedom for granted because my mother,Catharine Deitch, and my father,David Deitch, are U.S. Army veterans of WW II. My three brothers are also U. S. Army veterans. I was home recoperating from surgery when my Mom phoned me that morning and told me to put on the TV. I couldn't believe my eyes, I didn't see the first plane hit, but I did see the second hit. I was totally devasted by what had happened. I sat there all day in front of the TV and couldn't move. I just couldn't believe my eyes, I thought to myself, this can't be really happening. I sat there and just cried. Then after the the towers were hit, news came over the TV about the Pentagon and the plane crashing in Pennsylvania. I just couldn't drag myself away from the in front of the TV, I sat for days just soaking up everything I possibly could, switching from one channel to the next. Today, September 11, 2002 as we remember the first anniversary of the attacks, I was on my way to work and when the radio channel I was listening to US99.5 here in Chicago reserved 90 seconds of silence at the time of the first plane hitting, I wept all the way to work. We all dressed patriotic today, but there wasn't a dry eye in the house for most of the day, we had the TV running all day in our lunchroom, and at different times employees would come in and out just to see what was going on. It was a very nice ceremony that was held at all locations of where the planes went down. I will never forget what happened on September 11, 2001 for the rest of my life. My family and I don't watch the news in the morning, but Icould tell that something was up at the beginning of school. Everyone had been whispering, trying to talk to people what had gone on. Then, one of my friends had told me that the two twin towers in New York City had been crashed into by planes that had been hijacked by Afghanistan. All day long in the classes, our teacher had the news on for us to watch. The tape of the twin towers collapsing was played over and over again on each news channel, and it was played constantly in my head too. All day long, everyone seemed to be so worried, as was I. I came home to find a newspaper with a large "America Under Attack" heading. The news went late into the night, and continued on through the morning. Every one of the channels had news broadcasts on it. Everyone was afraid we were all in danger. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has changed greatly since September 11th. I have noticed that people are always flying american flags, God Bless America signs, and even going through the trouble to make sure half of the merchandise sold through the U.S. is red, white, and blue! I have gained a greater love for my country than I ever thought possible since September11th. I have an even higher respect for or firemen and police officers. I have found that some other people have also started loving our beloved country more and more. But there has also been what I think is alot more racism...many natural Americans seem to think they're better or higher than maybe Arab-Americans or Japenese-Americans. And if everyone here loves ou country so much, how come they can't keep it clean of polition? Yet, September 11th, I believe, has brought the people of our great societies much closer together. People are respecting our country, and in some cases, expecting eachother more than before the attack. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think that, rather than remembering how awful and inconsiterate the enemies are, we should probably be thinking about how much better we can be as citizens of this country. We shouldn't remember how much of an awful death each of the victims recieved, we should remember how much of a wonderful life that each of them might of lived. Things might be better if we're all striving towards the same goal of peace, of maybe breaking our necks for the health and lies of others...that's what those firefighters and policemen did. We need to learn from their example. Rather than just flying the american flag, try to remember WHY you are letting it billow in the air. Yes, after the September 11 events, I, like my neighbors, did too fly the american flag by my doorstep. I have gained a new respect for the american flag and what it means to me. It's not just a piece of cloth, or even just a symbol of our country. It is a symbol of freedom, love, and hope. The flag stands as a major part of our country though, for some time, I just considered it a flag...just a flag to whch I proclaimed my loalty to my country. But I have, within the past year, realized it's worth. "One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." We will not divide; we will not seperate from our love for our country and our love for eachother if we always remember the flag. We do not want our flag praised to in vain.Let it wave high, proclaiming the freedom of our nation...under God. NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I was there...working on the 97th floor of Tower 2. Here is my story: It was nearing 9 a.m. and I was waiting for my cubicle-mates to arrive. A few of us had already exchanged morning greetings. I was sitting at my desk when I heard a loud "BOOM". A giant fireball flared up outside our windows on the 97th floor, facing Tower 1. I stood up and couldn't believe my eyes. I didn't even have a chance to react. Someone yelled "It's a bomb!, others yelled "It's a plane!". I just stood there wide-eyed and terror-stricken. Then the heat came toward us like a wave. It was immediate and tremendous. I grabbed my bags and started to evacuate, even though there were no alarms. I wandered into the hallway when someone yelled, "Take the Liberty Street stairs". I tried to think where there was another staircase, but realized I didn't have time to waste. By then, people were starting to appear and we all headed down the stairwell we were always instructed to use in case of emergencies. I saw one of my friends turn around to look for me as he headed down the stairs, but we were separated by the growing number of people. Survival was my only thought for the next 45 minutes. In order to move as fast as possible, I took off my heels on the 95th floor and carried them down. The door opened on the 90th floor and I stepped out of the stairwell for a moment. I saw my boss, another friend and a bunch of others trying to decide what to do. I was drawn back into the stairwell and continued my journey downward. On the 70th floor, an announcement was being made that our building was secure and we were to remain where we were. Some people continued down, but I exited the stairwell, once again. We were being instructed by a fire warden to stay put. Some people were talking about returning to their offices. I held my hand on the doorknob to the stairwell, and when the public address announcements ended, I opened the door and fled. I reached the 61st floor when there was a tremendous explosion. The building swayed back and forth. I cant even describe the terror I felt as I was thrown into the wall. I screamed and screamed and screamed. A man grabbed me and held me until I calmed down. The lights flickered, there was white smoke everywhere and I saw that a large piece of concrete had fallen on the stairway landing. It took several seconds, but people came back to their senses. We all realized that we were not going to get out if we panicked. I tried to keep positive. One woman was praying, another singing. I resumed my descent. I didnt know if I had enough time to make it out of the building before it collapsed, because I knew it would collapse. It was inevitable. The building was vibrating and I ran faster and faster. I hiked my skirt up around my waist and pulled up my sleeves. It was getting hotter and I was scared. I didnt want to die like this. My cell phone rang and I was actually mad because I didnt have a second to waste trying to find it and answer it. I did though. It was my husband. I was on the 35th floor, but I couldnt voice that detail. I told him I was leaving and said Goodbye. I remember seeing two firefighters heading up and I wanted to tell them to turn around and save themselves. I reached the 20s…the teens…the 3rd floor…I remember thinking that I still wasnt safe, and now I would be at the bottom of the rubble when the building fell. I finally exited to the lobby and ran past the PATH train entrance. I looked into the eyes of a security guard I saw almost every day and said Thank-you. They were directing us to exit. I was told to stop running, but couldnt. When I got outside, it looked like a war zone, but I was grateful to see sunshine. I cried and I was shaking uncontrollably. I still didnt feel safe. I needed to walk away as far as possible because I didnt know how many city blocks would be taken out when the building fell. I wanted to live. I needed to live. I had to for my children. I met another colleague who made it out and we walked, trying to make cell phone calls once we were away from the building. (Closer to the building, we were told to turn our phones off because they were interfering with emergency communications.) I was still barefoot and didnt even realize it. I put my shoes on when we were about 5 or 6 blocks away. We kept walking and made it to Canal Street when people began to scream. We turned around and saw debris flying up in the air. It was twinkling in the sunshine. I thought they blew up another building. My colleague was screaming No, NO! and I realized that was OUR building and we were just there. I shook and wept for all the trapped people and for myself. I couldnt believe I had survived and as yet did not comprehend the enormity of this event. I am more fearful of the future and have a head twitch that manifests itself when I am stressed. I don't have as much patience as I used to have, and my family tells me I don't smile as much any more. Though I did not die in a physical sense, part of my personality ceased to exist after that day. My sense of fun and spontenaity is gone. I no longer have a "zest for life". And though I do have happy moments and try to put the events of September 11th behind me, it never goes away. It is something that will be with me until I draw my last breath on this earth. They were only trying to earn a living for themselves and their families. They did not die for political or religious ideals. They died trying to escape. They died at their desks because their dedication to their jobs caused them to wait to long to leave. They died waiting for help. They died trying to save others. Worth Texas. At 5:00am central time we started the process and everything was going normal and fine. My husband and I had brought with us to the hospital several movies because we were told that it could take as long as 20 hours to give birth. We had just gotten 1/2 way through the first movie when the nurse came running into our delivery room and said "Turn on CNN - the world Trade Center tower is on fire"...As I watched everything that unfolded it was surreal - I do not know if it was the meds. I was on or what even though time was passing quickly it seemed so slow. My son Christopher was born at 4:01pm...it will always be a bitter sweet day - On his first birthday we did a "red, White and Blue" birthday party. One of my coworkers said that a small plane had hit the World Trade Center. We all started checking the internet and turned on the radio to a news station. We learned of the 2nd plane and that the 1st plane was not small as originally thought. The husband of one of my coworkers was in Washington for some training, and she began frantically trying to reach him after we got word that a plane had hit the Pentagon. One of the training rooms at work has a cable TV feed, so we watched it during breaks. I don't remember getting much work done that day. I distinctly remember the chaos -- all the rumors and false reports that hit the news immediately, especially about buildings being bombed in DC. We were so relieved when my coworker was able to reach her husband, who had no idea that anything had happened. I cried a lot that day. We were allowed to leave work at 4:30 to go be with our families. I couldn't pull myself away from the radio and television. I was hungry for word that miraculously people were alive in the crumpled towers, but it never came. I'd never felt so helpless in my life. We were never able to have children, and now, I'm not sure I'd want to be raising children today and having to worry about their safety constantly. I've always gotten teary at the sound of the National Anthem, or "God Bless America", "America, the Beautiful", or any other patriotic song. I'm a very patriotic person. It was just like any other day. I showered, went to school, nothing was special or out of the ordinary. I went to my first hour class which was physical science and then I headed to English. I was still somewhat groggy, not quite awake. English started out normally but before I knew it I saw teachers start going in and out of their classrooms. It seemed a little unusual but I figured that there was some sort of a staff meeting or announcement or something. Then the vice principal came and took our teacher out of the room for a little bit. Ms. Eld, my teacher, came back into the room and then two sophomores ran in and started talking really fast. Ms. Eld shooed them out of the room and said that "we didnt' know about IT yet." This made me a little curious, I was then expecting something really great had happened to our school or something. Then Ms. Eld said that something had happened in New York that morning and it was something that would effect our entire nation. A look of distraught was in her eyes and when she flipped on the television the nightmare became real. My mouth literally dropped open and my heart sank deep into my chest as I watched our buildings go up in smoke and the ash and soot covered helpless people. Heading to my next class I heard someone say "don't worry you guys, it doesn't affect us." I wanted to scream, "yes it does!" September 11th changed America, it did and continues to affect us because we are American citizens. There have been several changes since then, some big and some small that have been made anywhere from security issues to wheather or not to declare war. I was very thankful that in German, our teacher had us sit down and just watch the TV and write and write about what had happened and was going on in our nation. Becuase that day just dragged on then but now I can't remember much of it. My story isn't very special or unique but it is what it is and I will never forget it. I used to just wrap myself in a blanket of safeness becuase I thought that America was indestrucatble, unbeatable, and the most powerful nation. Since then I have not really felt any less safe but each day that I am alive I try not to take it for granted. I have changed the way that I think about things. I try to stay more alert and aware of my surroundings. I watch the news because it matters to me what happens to America because I am an American citizen and that means a lot to me. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think everything should be remebered. There are probably some parts that some of us would rather forget but it is important that we don't because this event needs to be remembered. Terrorism is a big issue and we need to remember the devestating consequences that it can evolve into. We also must remember all of the lives that were sacrificed and espeically the men and women that fought to save those lives. Mostly it should be remembered because of the fact that it united America and it's people. It is sad that such a catastrophic event was needed to pull us together but the outcome has held a tremendous impact. Never have I ever been more proud to be an American citizen. Terroism might think that it succeeded on September 11th but I know the truth, that day was not only pain and agony, it was also triumph because I believe today, we are stronger than we ever have been and we will only grow stronger from here. My family personally does not own a flagpole so we did not fly a flag. Although I am always in full support for all of those that do. I have grown up learning to hold great respect for the American flag. But since September 11th, I now have a different feeling about the flag and what it stands for. Think about it, the American flag is what brought us together as a nation from the fisrt 13 colonies, the flag is what has gotten us through the wars we have fought together, the flag is what we as America stands for, freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. How can you not be in love with something that stands for that many things. Red, white, and blue are our colors, American's wear them with pride because those colors are the very heart of our nation. NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I lived in Brooklyn, New York with my family on the 11th of last year. We heard the 2nd explosion and felt our house tremble. Bits of paper and debris landed in our yard, a good 2 or 3 miles from the site. We lost members of our community, a close-knit one of cops and firefighters. My son, who had just started school the week before, had a boy in his class whose father died; he was one of 10 kids. We felt helpless. We donated socks, t-shirts, sweatpants, boots, underwear and food to our local firehouse, which lost a captain. We smelled smoke and our eyes stung whenever the wind shifted in our direction. At times we couldn't leave our house because of the smoke. We tried to lead normal lives for our children but we wondered if there would be a tomorrow, if war would break out and if we'd live to see our children grown. We PRAYED for the families and cried over posters and pictures plastered all over downtown, at a hospital even a month later. But one of my worst experiences of the day was when I realized that a young man who was trapped in Tower 2, but who had managed to call one of the television stations to get word to his family, did not survive, could not have survived as the Tower fell just minutes after his plea for help. I searched for his name among the missing, finally seeing it in the New York Times. I felt such pain for this man's family, a man I had never met or even seen, but who I felt such a connection to. We were in the process of selling our Brooklyn home and were, somewhat selfishly, worried if everything would move ahead. We had no idea where our buyers worked -- our lawyer was trapped overseas on vacation. We thought briefly of backing out of both selling and buying a house in upstate New York, but decided we had chosen to move for the good of our children. We have since moved and are dealing with different issues -- much more mundane ones. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? That New York is an amazing place, attracting amazing people to it. And that New York is ever evolving and growing and that this too shall pass. One of my friends ran in and said that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. We didn't really know anything else besides that. When I went to fourth period history, almost everyone in our school knew about it already. Our history teacher turned on the news and we saw what had happened. Shortly after that, another history teacher ran in and said that a second plane had crashed. We were all confused. I remember my teacher saying that if anyone needed to go to guidance they could. Then a girl in my class started hysterically crying and left. It was really sad. Later that day, there was announcements over the loud speaker about it. The whole rest of the day was a big blur. I remember on the bus we were talking about who could have done it. That was the first time I had ever heard the name Osama bin Laden. When I got home me and my brother watched the news for the rest of the night. Later my older brother came to stay with us because he lives right outside NYC and we didn't know if there would be another attack. A man that I baby-sit for is a police officer who was in the WTC when it collapsed. He went one way and his partner went the other way. He lived, his partner died. Also, how the USA banded together after the attacks. There were flags outside of almost every house that I passed. Everyone was so patriotic. It also reminded us how much hate and violence really exists in the world. We all know it exists to some extent but I never thought it would happen this big and so close to home. For people in the Middle East, this is not a rare thing, it happens everyday. It opened our eyes to how much hate is really in the world. That is one day I will never forget,I was getting dressed for work at Osco Drug store and my brother called me up and said are you watching the news? Isaid no why, he said 2 planes hit the twin towers I said what twin towers, All I know is Chicago, I didn't even know there was twin towers until that day. Naturally I thought he was playing around trying to make me watch something that was't there so I humored him and turned it on, I was in total shock I just stood silent I couldn't believe what I was seeing, after I had hung up with him I called my daughter, then I went to work that's all they were talking about.Most of the people that came in did't even know what was happening I was working the cash register when my boss said they hit the pentagon everyone was silent as we watched the t.v. we had for demo no one moved we were crying for the people that were in those buildings and planes. The rest of the day very little people came in the streets were pretty bare and me worried about my kids in school and if they were going to close the schools. All I know, as if someone was killing my family I felt a lot of hurt and hatred and feeling like getting even with the demon's spawn, that day made me appreciate life in general and to know that life is too short as it is to let someone scare me into thinking to be scared, yes I might die,but I'll fight doing it and I won't go alone I'll take one of them with me. I was in school, 8th grade, Sussex Middle School- I had just gotten into my 5th period class- Mrs. Hock, Language Arts. She had looked at us and said, that she heard something about it, but sort of didn't really think it was true, until students started being called out of class- to go home, a family member was there at the school to pick them up, maybe a family member was involved or something, or some parents just thought that their kids, being home during this horrible crime, would be the best for them. By then, the attacks had already happened, not knowing EXACTLY what had happened, and why it did. We knew that 2 airplanes, had hit both of the trade centers, not yet did we know that the pentagon was hit also. We had very little information about this, considering, the principal didn't really want anyone to turn on the TV to see what had happened, and the mess that it had left. We had first thought that it was just an accident, until we realized that it wasn't and that there were terrorist who really wanted to purposely do this. I think this is the stupidest thing someone could've done, not only did it effect the world, it affected the people of the united states. We have stayed united, and we will continue. And I hope that one day, Bin Laden, will be caught and will be killed, because of the fact, that he put so many families, through a lot of problems, emotions, and feelings, and many were heartbroken. I was lucky enough not to have anyone of my family members involved with this, except my aunt, who works close to there, she had left the scene, as soon as she could, to go home, to her family. and I praise God for keeping her safe, and unharmed. I see the people that have been killed in this crime, and i have seen the problems it has caused us, but overall, i believe that we are a united country, and that this attack, has not only brought this country closer, but we take alot more precautions now, then what we did, before the attack. I think that all of the people that have died, the firemen that were involved, and helped cleaned up everything, the families of lost loved ones, the police men who did all they could to save people, and i think that we should always remember this time, and i think that we should wear red, white, and blue on every September 11th, for the rememberence of these people, and to take part in the pride of the firemen, the people that survived, and the police men that had tooken part in this horirble crime. My principal went over the loud speaker during that period and announced to the entire school what had happened to the World Trade Centers. I remember feeling a wave of shock and a feeling of really not knowing how to think or feel. Then, the principal said that everyone was going to have a chance to phone his or her mom or dad to check and see if they were ok, since the Pentagon had been attacked as well. My dad, being in the military, had previously worked at the Pentagon. He had just been transferred though to the AMC center. I felt at that time a sense of relief because I knew that my dad was safe. But I also felt a little concerned and afraid of the friends I had whose family did work at the Pentagon. I couldn't help but think of their feelings, and also that of my dad's for I was sure he still had friends that still worked in the Pentagon. When I got home that day, the TV was already on in every room that had a TV. The TV was on the same channel. My dad just stood there in the middle of the den staring at the television. My mother was busy answering the telephone that rang off the hook for days from our family and friends worried and concerned for my dad, thinking that he had not transferred to his new location yet. After a few days, things died down a bit, but there was still talk and discussion whereever i went about what had happened on 9/11 NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. I look at things a little differently now. My dad could have easily been located at the Pentagon when the attacks occurred, but he wasn't. For that, I am extremely grateful. I can't go around anymore taking things for granted, because in one second, I could lose it all. I have always tried to be a person who tried to appreciate everything that I have. I recall in the early morning of Sept. 11th that I received a phone call waking me up. My mother told me to turn on the news and we watched as the World Trade Center #2 was hit. Amazing. Tragic. It was like a scene from a hollywood movie, only shockingly real. I watched mesmerized throughout the day as the news unfolded. My heart went out to the victims and their familes. America became a more security-conscious society and we tried to safeguard our defenses. I remember hearing people talking about a plane crash in the waiting room. Then the other news was revealed to us in bits and pieces. We were not able to get the full story! It was so frustruating. As I brought patients back to see the doctor they would fill me in. We tried, in vain, to get our little radio to tune into a station for more information. I remember finally getting to go to lunch. We walked into the hospital cafeteria, usually a nosiy bustling area. It was silent except for a TV brought in by the hospital administration. I remember purchasing a lunch and then watching in horror the news unfold in front of me. The four of us sat and cried together. I worried about my kids - one at school and one with the babysitter. I worried for my husband, at work at General Motors. I mostly worried for my parents who lived within a mile of Oceana Naval Jet Base in Virginia Beach. It was a very long and miserable day. I made a point to learn about the different countries and what they are fighting for. I also have started teaching my kids not to fear evil but to pray! It was nice to see a president recite scripture and use the name of the Lord. My children attend a parochial school and can't understand why their non-parochial friends didn't pray after that. I was even featured on the front page of our local news tying patriotic balloons to my mailbox. I witnessed the attacks by listening in on the radio as the first planes hit the buildings in New York City. I was in my English class in 10th grade at Jenks High School in oklahoma.. and we heard about the attacks from another teacher, and turned on the radio.. b/c we did not have a tv in our room at that time. i heard about the second plane hitting the south tower, and then i heard about the collapses.. and sat in awe at what had happened. As this was going on i was taking notes on a sheet of paper, about where i was and what i was doing. If so, tell us how. i think the events have changed my life because they make me vaule my loved ones even more, and to become less trusting, and realize how fragile life is. Nobody I know was directly affected by the terroist attacks, so this has not changed my life drastically. But I do know "of" friends that have been afffected, or has known someone who was affected by the horrific attacks of 9/11. This was a horrible event and as everybody says, this will always be remember. No matter if you know someone who was lost, or just heard about the event. We should value everything we are, and that we live in peace and our country is one of Greatness.. and has over come the tragic attacks of 9/11. Eventually i believe that the consequenses of this attack will become a peace of life everyday, learning to be more cautious and working together to make a safer community not only for us, but for our children and the others around us. I was a freashman in High school and my sister and I were on our way to school when we heard what had happened. The dj on the radio said that a plane crash in to the world trade tower. At that time i had no idea what that really was. Than we went to school and we were watching the news on tv. we were just watching the frist tower burn than all of a sudden we saw an other plane come and hit the other tower. I couldnt believe it all those innocent people in there and I felt gult because there I was sitting in English not knowing how luky I am. I always took beging an American for granded I never knew how luky I am to be able to live in the land of freedom. where no dream is out of reach. NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I flew from Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale on a business trip the morning of September 11, 2001. I had rented a car and was on my way to the meeting when I heard the news on the radio. Instead of the business discussion I had prepared, the meeting was focused on the terrifying events unfolding. Coworkers interupted our meeting with news updates: "The Pentigon was just hit!" and "One of the WTC towers just fell!". I struggled to contain my emotions. After the meeting and learning the airports were closed, I decided to drive the 11 hour trip home in my rental car. I tried several times to contact my husband on my cell phone and finally reached him. He had a sales meeting that morning and after hearing the terrible news lead the group in prayer. My three boys were still at school and I wondered how they were feeling about this tragic situation. The news reports I listened to on my ride home didn't even come close to the impact of seeing the tramatic events on television when I finally arrived home. I cried that day and for several days after especially at a memorial mass celebrated at our church. Our lives had changed forever. I was in Social Studies when a senoir came in and told us that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. Our class got to see that second plane crash on the news.
