NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I was in school during the September 11th attacks. I remember waking up and going to school just like a normal day. During first period a teacher comes in and tells my teacher that a hijacked plane had crashed into the first tower of the World Trade Center. My teacher immediately turned on the news and we saw the tower up in smoke. They were showing reaplay of what had happened. While watching the first tower burning in flames we witnessed the second plane come onto the screen and crash through the second tower. We knew this could be no accident. Our feelings went to the people on the planes and in the buildings as we watched the two towers callapse and leave a hole in the sky of New York City. By then we were in second period and parents were coming to pick up their kids. I however reamained in school and saw all the events including the crash into the Pentagon and the storie of the fourth flight crashing. Later that day as the death toll was counted up into the thousands i went into disbelief. When i heard of the heroic acts of the men on the fourth plane i was touched and my heart went to them. I didn't have the tv or radio on at the time so I didn't know that two Commercial Jet planes had crashed into the World Trade Center until my daughter stopped by and yelled, "A plane crashed into the World Trade Center"!! I turned on the tv immediately and there, live, was the World Trade Center with thick black smoke and flames billowing from the windows. By the time I turned the tv on, both towers had been hit, but someone caught the second plane as it hit tower two, on film, and that particular segment was shown over again, several times. I remember thinking, "Those poor people"!! I have flown a few times and I don't know why, but I've always flown United, and when I learned that one of the planes that flew into one of the towers was a United Airlines Jet, I remember thinking that I could have been on that plane. That was a scarey thought. And the same words kept running through my head, "Those poor people, those poor people". I was glued to the tv, horrified at what I was seeing, but still having to watch. I shed a lot of tears during that time, thinking of all those innocent people who died a horrible death all because some crazed maniac thought he was doing God's will. Still today, as we approach the one year anniversary of that horrible tragedy, the tears fall as I think of all the survivors and the loved ones they will never see on earth again. Never can they hold them, kiss them, or talk to them. Never again can they say, "I love you". GOD BLESS THEM AND GOD BLESS AMERICA! The "National Anthem" and other patriotic songs, such as "America The Beautiful", "God Bless The USA", and others, have much more meaning to me than before. I live on the west coast so when I woke up @ 9am it was already 12 noon on the east coast. I woke up in the usual way by hitting the snooze button on my alarm clock. But it came back on 7 minutes later with the radio playing. The station I listen to is usually playing music. But this morning, evewn through my grogginess I could sense this day was going to be different. As if in the back of my head I heard the words, "Terrorist attack in New York.." and "..building collapsed that was struck by plane...". I just sat straight up wondering if I had heard right. So I went straight to my computer and logged into the web. I tried to pull up the major news agencies but was continually blocked. At that point I knew something was tragically wrong. It was at that point that I looked at my clock and saw that the time was now 9:11am. I finally found a smaller news site that I was able to sign onto and get more information. How horriffic the scenes that I saw. Of course at that time they only had video of the second plane hitting the Word Trade Center. I sat there just watching over and over what I was seeing. I could not believe it. I work at the San Francisco Airport. So I called to find out if we were still open since all traffic had been shut down. I was told we were still open. SO I went to work. The drive was unusually quiet. No traffic, clear blues skies, and not even the planes that I would usually see landing at the airport were there. When I pulled into work the road was empty. When I walked into work the lobby was utterly quiet with no customers. The only sound was of the telephone ringing... continually. All we did that day was to answer the phones and to help the customers as best we could get home. But in between calls, some of us had access to the internet, we watched and read as more details became available from New York, Washington DC, and PA. We all felt deeply saddened but even more so knowing that two of those planes were coming home to us in San Francisco. I took a break in the afternoon and went to the roof of our building like I sometimes do. As I looked over the airport there was not a single plane moving. I will never forget that view. I live in Western New York and was the Art Director for an advertising and marketing firm near Buffalo, NY. Our Sales Executive came rushing into our office to announce that someone blew up a building in New York City, and she was shaking. We tried to get information on the internet but we unsuccessful. Tears started to flow when we heard from her radio station contact that another building was hit. Intermittently we saw news on the internet but it was behind in events, but we did learn that it was a plane hitting a building - we thought it was a bomb. We were not sure between what was verbal information, internet information and conjecture. It was very panicking to "not know". When we did finally learn that these were planes and intentionally flown into our World Trade Center buildings - we thought we were at war. Then we heard that there was another plane and possibly another. We heard that the Pentagon was hit. We could not imagine "who" would do this. The owner of our firm let everyone leave work. I rushed to the car dealership where my husband works and watched the television in the customer lounge. I could not keep the flight numbers straight in my head. It was very upsetting and this feeling of loss came. There was no way to comprehend it - people were trapped and dying and it was too overwhelming. I prayed for those trapped and for those helping them and for my children at their local school. I had no idea if more attacks would come. When the towers fell, it was like watching a movie. It was a sickening feeling. We finally learned that the plane in Pennsylvania was down. We spent weeks literally glued to the television. Our children were overwhelmed and we did not even know what to say to each other. The facts were horrendous. More information comes constantly and we look back on what happened and we study it. I think that as a family we see the news unfolding a master plan. We see Biblical prophesy unfolding and we are closer to one another and I think we need to brace ourselves for what will only get worse. We care what happens to our country, our cities and our neighbors and that made me feel so good - to see that good people are still out there and they will sacrifice for one another. I believe in people again - their goodness. I believe in city leaders, the department who serve and in the Presidency. I watch the news and I understand Israel's battle; we must learn from them. I see that we are vulnerable. I see that hatred in the world is very real. I will never feel the same again, and I understand that within our borders we are not safe. The threat can come from overseas, but it can also manifest inself here. I really don't think people worry about what is inside our borders. I think that isolated neighborhoods and mosques and places that financially gain power and have alliances to extremist groups should be dealt with. I don't think we should accept "it's a different place there - not even like being in the USA - it's not safe there" as I heard people account of these neighborhoods. My life is changed because I know that we are not only part of the world at war now, but we are the leaders of a world at war - we will end terror or we will fight it til we die. We no longer sit back and watch. I believe we cannot do it in a small way - we must be a giant wave in motion that cleanly wipes terrorists from the earth. On a very small scale, but personal level, I was laid off October 5th, 2001. Many people lost their jobs. It was unfortunate, but also an opportunity. On a large scale this is an example because we saw a very small demonstration of what terrorists can do - now we have an opportunity to change how we prevent and react and can possibly keep attacks from happening. It starts with a change of mindset. I believe we all experienced that. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? We are vulnerable. We are not so big and far away that we are beyond attack. We are not so powerful that we can control what others will do. We are labeled "infidels" by these extremists and they mean to exterminate us, as if we were insects. We must remember that we are dealing with people that have no conscience, no loyalty to our true Father in Heaven, and no fear of dying for their Satanic desire to control the world or wipe us out. If they cannot control it physically, they want to do it emotionally - and as the President has said so many times - we need not be swept away with panic - or they are controlling us. Being vigilant is smart. So, we be cautious and take note and prepare and we act decisively. We cut them off and we root them out - here and abroad and we make them powerless. There is no more being passive. The thing to remember is that we are all grown up now, we can no longer be children as a society - and we must act like the leaders we are. We will no longer accept unacceptable behaviour from anyone! Time to stand up and be counted! It is worth dying for: the principles, the country, the freedom - it is for our children. We should remember Flight 93. They were heroes - there heart was in the right spot - they stood for what they believed. Rumors may be truths about that flight - did we have to shoot it down? If we did, they would have wanted it that way, anyway - and we had a tough decision and it was made. If we did shoot it down, we as Americans will have to grow up and accept that. Americans must remember if they want truth then they will have to accept it - no matter what it is - we aren't babies any more. We can't judge and we can't sit idle and we can't "talk it out" with a force that will kill you using their own child if they can. Remember vigilance, decisiveness, heroic action and the human spirit. Remember our Father watches us, watches over us and if we die - then we die. If we are forgiven through our personal commitment to Jesus, our Saviour, we will be with our Father in Heaven. We will have no regrets. However, we do have pins with the flag on them, that I wear on my suits. Yesterday, I was given a flag pin at the Family Dollar Store, so I have two now. Yes, the flag is important, and it is a symbol of our strengths, as a country and as our spirit - mostly for the people who have died for it. We do live for it, but not in the extreme way people die for it. It is a symbol of standing up and being counted. I guess in everyday life we don't do that so much, but when we are needed, we are there - we pull together - we are heroes. On the mourning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001 I was sitting quitely in Social Studies class when my teacher read aloud something off of the internet. He tried to explain to us that there was a rumor about a plane hitting a building in New York City. He wasn't sure if the rumor was true or not. We discussed the topic a little and then the bell rang. It was time to go to our next class. I was walking down the hallway when I heard a television on. I entered my next class and the television was on. I knew it had to be something about the rumor of the plane in New York City. Like I predicted, it was. This so called rumor was actually turning out to be the real thing. Then out of the corner of the screen I saw another object zooming through the screen. It was another airplane. I was frozen in my shoes. I couldn't believe what was just happening. My teacher was crying along with a few other classmates. Then my terror turned into anger. I was furious! Share your experience. my biggst memoryof September 11? well, i don;t really have one but its aftereffects are what i'm thinking about. yes, sep.11 was a tragic time. many people lost their lives and many are mourning over people they have lost. now people are more patriotic and care about their country more but they are also much more scared than ever before. my mom wont let me out of the house without telling her who, when, where, why, or what. i can;t even walk around the neighborhood with out my mom telling me to be careful and watch out. i know its not all from the attackes but because of that alot of people are wondering what the person next to them in the super market are thnking. seriously, when my mom was my age she could ride her bike across town with nothing on her mind. now you wouldn't even think of doing that without a group of friends. things have changed since september 11. people are alot more loving and patriotic, but on the down side they are alot more fearful too. A co-worker in thefield called soon thereafter. For the next 90 minutes there was much talk around the office. Our company president let us go early. I live on Eagle's Nest Branch, Castlewood, Russell County, Virginia. I was on my way on I-81 to Morristown, Tennessee to see my aunt and uncle Gladys & Stan Swartfiguier, who were in from Arizona to see a piece of property that they had bought. My Mom and Dad, Stan & Mary Breeding had went down the night before and stayed the night with them. It was their son Kris' birthday. Just after nine o'clock, their was a news flash on the radio about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center. I was in total shock, but thought it was a horrible accident. Then a few minutes later, another news flash and it said that the other Tower had been hit, and I knew instantly that this was a terrible act of terrorism and I cried. A few minutes later, I got lost and stopped in at Office Max in Morristown and got directions. Everyone there was devestated also. I went on to the hotel where my aunt and uncle were staying and the clerk let me into their room to wait on them all. I turned on the television and there it was and then, they told that the Pentagon had ben hit. In a few minutes, my aunt, uncle, mom and dad came in and amidst the joyful reunion, I said have you heard the news, mom and dad said that they had heard a little, Gladys and Stan hadn't. I said you have to come see. So we all went in and watched in horror as they replayed it over and over. Then there was the report of the plane that went down in Pennsylvania. Then came the thoughts about are my 4 girls (Melanie, Caroline, Sarah & Shakaela) okay, is my husband (Clyde) okay.I thought that my girls couldn't be in a better place because their school has a bomb shelter under it. What else is going to happen? There are no words to describe how I felt that day. I put flags up on the outside of my house and they are still up today.(Sept. 10, 2003). I put flags on my vehicles and I put window clings in my vehicles and they are still there. This was an uncalled for act of terrorism. I love my country. Thanks for this opportunity. Everyone was crowed around the TV, watching at the back of the room watching what was happening to the buildings. Some kids thought is was cool and others didn't exackly know what to say. My teacher hadn't really said anything, she was just glued to what the TV was showing. That day we didn't really have class, most of the time was spent watching to see what would happen next. I remember a guy saying, thats awesome and of course with out a doubt being yelled at. I assume it hadn't registered into his mind either. It didn't even occur to me what really had happened. Our teacher then somewhat explained the situation to us, still the information wasn't coming in to me as reality. I remember vagly seeing the second plane hit into the second building but not well enough to explain what happened. You know, a year later it only started being real now. Mine has changed for the fact that I try to make everyday the best that I can cause it would be my last. Its changed for myself because even though I was one to loose someone, I can feel from the surroundings just how that might feel. We've read millions of articules and words from others who were their or saw what was happening, and every time it brings this feeling that I can't explain. I'm sure everyone has felt it before. A feeling that you definitly can't put into words. In a way I wish instead of those families being hurt mine could have been so they wouldn't have been at such loss but then mine would be just as bad as theirs. It was one year ago today that I remembered the tragic events of 9-11. As a witness to one of the most important events in the history of the world, I think it is important that I write down for all of you to remember what that day means to me. I remember the day, that September day that changed America. The tragic events that took place on 9-11 will never diminish in the hearts of Americans. As the plane struck the world trade center and pentagon, terror was brought about through our eyes. On the same day a plane was crashed onto the grounds of Shangsville, Pennsylvania, believed to be headed for the white house. This event was carried out due to the brave heroes who stood up against the terrorists, and spared the lives of others in Washington. The day that struck America was a day that struck our hearts, causing a hole, which can never be filled. When the smoke rose from the severe destruction, the terror started to unfold. The day that America was attacked was a day when America changed. Our nation became one in people, mind, soul, and family. I prayed for the dead and their families, and for the children who became orphans. I also prayed for the heroes who were born on 9-11 that helped save America. Hundreds of firefighters perished trying to just perform their job, which I recognize as true heroes. In New York many people lost their jobs and chance to support their families. Our economy slowed down significantly through the outrageous act on 9-11. Many people stopped flying due to the fear sunk in their stomach. As a result some airlines were even forced into bankruptcy. This is what our enemy wants to see, chaos throughout America. But we as a nation did not let our enemy see what they desired. In my mind I see America as a pole of freedom and success, which can never be broken down by anyone. 9-11 was also a day that made America stronger. Through out our nation today, we have security everywhere. An important place where this attribute is shown is at the airport. As we fly today, we have tight security. Why? To protect lives and ensure safeness through out our journey. Some people think its ridiculous when they check your shoes at the airport, but I feel as if that pole is getting stronger. As I reflect upon these facts as of today, only one emotion comprises my mind: anger. Over 3,000 human beings were robbed of their lives by the terrorists. Our nation feels anger as well, which is why we were at war with Afghanistan. I am proud of all the soldiers who defended America. Many have died, but they left as heroes. No matter how hard America is struck, it will always defeat its enemy. I want to thank all the heroes who helped their nation when it was in need. America will never forget those who stood up and risked their lives, just to help save other innocents. I feel proud to be an American and am grateful to be where I am today. May all the Americans who were perished on the day that changed America, rest in peace. God bless America, for it has, is, and will continue to be the greatest nation in the world. Our athletic coach Mrs. Peggy McDonald told us about the attack during volleyball practice. Later that day every class I went to the television was turned on so everyone could see what had happened that day. Many peoples lives were lost that day and I know I will never forget the day that happened. My prayers are out to all the family's that had lost someone they loved so much. It was first period of science class and my tacher seem a bit nervous she had just heard the news and i think she chose not to be the one to tell us. So i went on to second period and we did everything and it seemed normal. So finally i went on to reading and the tv was on so i just thought "Yes! No work today." Yet in fact it was CNN and the news reporter was explaining how a plane had crashed into one of the trade center buildings. It wasn't at all like reality it felt fake i couldn't get it though my head. As soon as i had walked in to the room and took a seat. I look up at the screen and found out then another plane had hit and the other building. Later one collapsed into itself then the other building collapesed too. I relized it was reality after wards and it was hard to see all the mourning people. It seemed like the entire world stopped. It was like a haze flashed over for the rest of the month and even the presidents reasuring words never completly made me feel completely safe. I can still see those same images of the tv screen. Also another one of my parents friend worked for the trade center but he was not there. My life has change I began to think about my life in general and all the thing i take for grantit every day but it didn't truely affect me like some of the people I know. I really wanted to look good that day because it was picture day. In the mist of getting ready my best friend called and told me that the Towers had been bombed or something crazy like that. My dad is a native New Yorker so I told him and we turned on the tv. When I went to school that day everyone was talking about what happened. Most of the teachers were crying their eyes out but the students were mainly really confused. One of my friends told me that people were suspecting a terrorist named Osama bin Laden as the plot leader. I remember thinking that I have no clue who that is. As time went on the reality of the tragedy began to sink in. I can't watch any clips of the events of that day without crying or at least becoming teary - eyed. Now we are at war and as I'm getting older some of my friends are becoming at risk of being drafted if a draft occurs. I love New York City and have been there many times. I have gone to the Twin Towers. My family has pictures there. It is very eerie knowing that the exact spot where we were standing happily was later a death ground for thousands. That act of terrorism was extremely unnecessary and ruined thousands of peoples lives. Everyone should try their best to bring terrorism to an end. NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. I had gotten into an arguement with my wife, while we were living in London, England. On the morning of 9-11, I was flying into Newark From London, England on United Flight 907. I noticed that the flight crew were behaving strangely. The on board lights came on and the captain told the horrible news. Flight 907 was diverted to Halifax, Canada.My family wwas not sure if I perished until I was able to phone my wife in the early morning hours. We both wept on the phone and she asked that I come back for her. She would give up her life in England to live with me in Montana. We are still together and very happy together. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My experience through 9-11 will always haunt me. Memories remind me to be thankful for my loving wife and our great country. I have become more patriotic. I watch people, what they do and say closer. This experience makes me more protective of my family and I tell my wife that I love her every day. I want her to know that I love her in case we become separated by my death. I want her to feel safe and secure. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? We must never forget those who gave their lives, so others could live and show respect. We must never take our freedom for granted. We must fight to continue to be free. We should be vigilant. I am proud to be American and display of our flag causes my heart to well up. So many have died, just so we could be free.
