Everyone in school saw what happened on the TVs and all the teachers were explaining what had just taken place. I remember exactly where I was. I remember walking into my 5th period science class to see the second plane fly right into the towers. I had no idea what was going on at this point. I put my books down and watched what was going on. Yet, soon after the TVs all had to be shut off. The principal didnt want anyone getting worried over what was going on in New York. In every class thats all we talked about. Everyone had questions and all the teachers were just as unsure as the rest of us. Then 8th period I was in English and our principal came over the loud speaker announcing what had happened. It was all anyone talked about all day. In lunch my friends and I were discussing how we felt and what we thought was going to happen. I went home that day and all the TVs in my house were on the same channel with the two towers on the screen. I was all over the news. So I went into my room and watched the news and talked on the phone, saying to my friends what I thought of all this. I just remember my family, friends, and I were all shocked, and unsure of the whole situation still. The feelings I had were of disbelief, anger, sadness, and shock. I was so mad at the people who had done this to us, I was also still thinking to myself, Oh my gosh what is this all about? Is this really happening? I felt sadness for all of those people who had died and knowing that people were still trapped, scared me and made me feel upset for them and all their families. This has affected me because now the world has changed. You see flags everywhere, everyone is so patriotic now and you just cant do the same things with such comfort anymore. I think that September 11th should always be remembered. All the innocent people who were killed should never be forgotten. Also the firefighters, police, and everyone that came to the recuse, and put their lives on the line to save others. Some of them even lost their lives trying to free others. All these people are a part of history, even the emotions and reactions of everyone are very important to remember, and never forget how this has changed all of our lives forever. On September 11, 2001, it was like 9:45-10am when my friend Ashley walked into our english class late and she told me that a plane had just hit a building in New York. I didnt know what to think of it, then our principal came over the loud speaker and said that the World Trade Towers in NY had just been hit by planes, everyone in the class was like "oh my god", and "what". Shortly after that we found out the Pentagon was hit and we live like 45mins from there and parents of the students work there. Everyone was in shock of what happened. Then we got to leave school early and I went home and turned on the news and saw what happened. I couldn't believe my eyes. Every channel kept playing the tape over and over. It didn't even seem real. I called my mom to tell her what happened and she didn't even know about it. The intercom kept going on and off then finally Mr.Thacker got on and said turn on the tv's right now and do it first. So we did and we were watching the t.v for about 20min then our teacher was getting mad so she turned it off and our whole classroom was talking about it. Share your experience. i was watching the news around 7.45 chicago time on that morning as i was getting ready to go to class, and there was a mention that one of the towers had been hit by a plane. My first thought was that it must've been some kind of freak accident... no thought that this had been deliberate crossed my mind until i heard about the pentagon. I told my mom to check out the radio on the way to class, and then there was the news that another plane had hit the other tower. I still didnt think of why or how this could've happened... i was just struck with awe that it did happen. In our drawing class we were listening to the radio (my favorite morning show too) and it was starting to get scary when the music had stopped being played. Around 9.00 we heard about the crash at the pentagon and our teacher came in crying because his son was on a plane from baltimore to nyc and he wasnt sure if he was okay, so he let us go... once i heard that there was the crash into the pentagon i just started crying. I realized that this wasnt just some coincidence, that this had to have been a concerted effort to harm us. After a few moments i wandered out onto the campus grounds and sat crying uncontrollably... and i really remember the perfect blue sky, it was just so perfect and beautiful - like one of those days that shouldnt have to end. People were gathering in the student center to watch the televisions and i couldnt bring myself to watch. I had to call mom to come pick me up but once i got to her i could barely speak, and i think she was crying too. As soon as i got in the car i started sobbing on mom's shoulder and telling her that i love her (it was the first time that i remember calling her mommy). The rest of the day after noon was spent getting in touch with family and friends - one of whom lives in upper manhattan - and watching the tv... i just couldnt take my eyes off it. All that night from10 til probly 2 or 3 am i spent watching mtv and cartoons, because whenever i would turn to any other channel with news on i would start crying all over again. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. During the first few weeks i was afraid of the planes that would fly overhead. That first night after the attacks was so eerie because we're always hearing the planes coming in and out of the local airport but that night there was hardly a sound except the occasional fighter jet making its rounds over downtown chicago. Now i want to go to the top of the sears tower too, just in case something happens to it. It has been my dream to go to new york and see the city from 100 stories in the air but that has obviously been put on hold. I still want to go and see it though, and even if it means breaking my heart all over again to go see the remains of the trade center it would be the best experience yet. When i see or read things about that day i get teary eyed and i remember feeling so distressed and afraid. Even retelling what went on for me that day brings back all those feelings of exposure and fear. If it werent for his accident in basic training over that summer, my boyfriend would probly have been on his way to afghanistan... and he told me that if he could, he would have been more than willing to fight too. I never take things for granted anymore, especially the company i have with my friends and family. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? The people should definitely be remembered, all the heroes and the victims because they are the model examples of the unity we need. But i really think we have to remember how we all felt that day and never forget that we are human, we all bleed and feel pain, and we should be humble and willing to serve each other no matter what diferences we see in others. It was a bit old and was starting to turn yellow but its still a good flag. It was a comforting sign to see all these people waving and hanging the flag and i really felt like i wasnt alone. Following the attacks, I became drawn to reading The New York Times' Portraits of Grief everyday. We were going to the polls that gorgeous day to vote in the primaries for, as irony would have it, Mayor. As a registered Republican, I was on my way to vote in the GOP primary. My wife was giving our eleven-month old daughter breakfast in her high-chair as I left to vote. It was approximately 9:00 am. Neither radio nor TV were on. I left my apartment on 55th Street (near Ninth Avenue) and walked to the polling place on 56th, between Ninth and Tenth. I wasn't paying much attention to what was going on around me. I voted for Herman Badillo. After voting, I walked east on 56th on my way to work. At the corner of 56th and 9th, I saw a young woman on the corner. She was looking down 9th. I stopped and finally looked around. Thick black smoke was billowing out of the towers, quite visible in the distance. It was 9:15am. My first reaction was, "fire." I hoped everything was all right. It wasn't. Continuing my walk east on 56th, I began to hear radio from parked cars and people walking around and talking. Planes (plural) had hit both WTC Towers. Terrorism. Danger. WTC, Pentagon, missing plane, other threats. My cell phone wasn't working, so I found an empty pay phone and called my wife and told her to stay in and not to go out at all. I continued my walk to work and got there around 9:30/9:45. The phone started ringing immediately. My brother in Los Angeles; friends from CT and MA. "Call Dad." "Call Mom." "Are you OK?" I was honestly bewildered at the level of concern. I was in Midtown - Park and 55th - and nowhere near the Towers. I was emotionally as well as physically removed from what was going on. I also was not watching TV; my brother told me over the phone that the towers went down. I had only my office radio. I was on the phone and internet monitoring events. Friends and family were calling non-stop. I assured them all I was not near downtown and in no danger. I managed to get through to my mother in Hartford. She was just shy of hysterical. I calmed her down and assured her I was in no danger. Or was I? Leaving my office after awhile (my wife wanted me to come home quickly), things began to sink in. How many people were in BOTH towers? 20,000? 40,000? 50,000? I had no idea. News reports were speculating at least 10,000 dead, probably much more. Then the anger set in. Son of a BITCH! Hit 'em back! HARD!! But something else started nagging at me. What was next? What would be hit next as I'm walking the crowded streets of midtown surrounded by tall buildings? I began to walk fast, looking up and around the whole time. What could I do right now? Give blood? Volunteer for rescue or other tasks? I wasn't sure. I should probably go to D'Agostino's first and get some food just in case. Then I'd give blood. Okay, a rough plan was in place. I walked down 57th Street back to Ninth Avenue. People were walking briskly in all directions. Cell phones that worked were doing just that. Lines formed for all working pay phones. [Credit to Verizon for keeping them working.] At about Broadway, the first ambulances past by on their way to St. Lukes/Roosevelt. D'Agostino's was mobbed but orderly. Very calm and quiet. Very subdued. No rushing. No shouting. I picked up essentials and joined the line already in progress (it stretched to the back wall). Again, no urgency; no huffing; no puffing. Nothing. Just quiet conversations in line. Quiet resolve. Who did it? How'd it happen? How will we respond? After waiting I-don't-recall-how-long, I got home and saw my first TV images. Wow. Unreal. Surreal. Unbelievable. Shortly, I convinced my wife that it was urgent for me to go back out there and give blood. I had to do something. I couldn't just sit and do nothing. I walked back to the East Side briskly and chose not to wait in the around-the-block line that had formed. I went back home. Walking back home a little more slowly, I had to pause at 8th Avenue and 55th. Crowds of people were walking up 8th - hundreds just walking up. They looked like fleeing refugees. In a sense, they were. This crowd had been walking for most of the day, having evacuated lower Manhattan on foot. It reminded me of THE DAY AFTER. I got home again, hugged my wife and baby, watched the continuing coverage, ate something, saw 7 WTC collapse, took more phone calls and went to bed. I was at Hermitage Technical Center and I had heard that a plane had hit the first twin tower in New York. THe only part of that sentence that I had clearly heard was New York. Now being from New York I got really scared and freaked out. I have most of my family in New York. After calming down after a few seconds I realized it was in NYC, I am from NY State, but still I knew that my cousin was living in NYC with his wife. They lived 8 blocks from the World Trade Center. They were supposed to go into work that day burt called in. Thank God, their work was a lot closer to the World Trade Center. I was in training at my job at an airline near Washington Dulles Airpot in Dulles, VA, when someone came in and said a plane had hit the WTC. At first, we thought it was one of our planes, and started scrambling to try and find out more information. All of our phones, computers, everything was busy. My fiance was able to call me on my cell phone and told me everything that was going on. The 11th was his first official day as a commercial airline pilot...he had just finished up training on the 10th. His voice was shaky and he was upset...I knew that what was going on was severe. My friend's husband worked at the Pentagon, and as soon as we heard about the Pentagon, we raced to her house to be able to see the tv and witness what was going on. Then we sat and waited at her house hoping her husband would call. She had thought he worked near/around where the plane had hit, and was starting to get nervous. Four hours later he called her from a payphone near Arlington Cemetary where he had walked to. He was okay..but shaken. It was so nice to see her and her husband reunite at the Metro station. Finally, my parents were living in Brussels, Belgium...so I finally got through to them..and that's when I wished they lived closer and were not overseas. At the end of the day I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I just wanted to have my parents nearby to just hug and say I love them. My life has changed because of 9/11..I want to be with my parents more and I can not bring myself to go to an airport or be on a plane. I've always been scared to fly but now I get panic attacks just thinking about flying. My fiance is a pilot, and it's so hard to see him do his job and wonder if he'll ever be the first officer of a doomed plane. I pray more...for my family, for my fiance, for myself, for all the victims, and for the world. I now have panic and anxiety attacks almost weekly, and suffer from depression. Everyone from the victims, to their families, to the firemen and police....everyone in the US was a hero that day in some way or another. I would've flown a flag if I could have found one. I searched the whole DC area and couldn't find one...so I made a ribbon to wear out of red, blue and silver ribbon that I was able to find at Walmart. My feelings about the flag I think have changed because I feel like it means more to me now....that I love America so much more and appreciate it so much more as well. I noticed that there was a building with smoke coming out of it. At first i did not know what was going on. I had thought that some one had accidently started a fire. I did not pay much attention to it and went on with my buisness. then i heard my brother call me and told me that a plane had hit the other building. That is when i went into shock. I did not know what to think yet, until my brother told me that it was a terrorist attack. I did not want to beleive him at first. We went to school without saying a word. First period started and my teacher came in crying. She didnt turn on the TV for us to watch. She said that it was too traggic. The whole time we read our SSR book while she was makeing phone calls to family and friends. She then told us that she had recieved a call from her brother who was in Chicago. I had just started Graduate School in Georgia, my fiance was at work in the DC area. I remember vividly when the first thing he had said to me was, "A plane flew into the World Trade Center." It had just happened, it was a little before 9am. My heart sank and I typed back naively, "I'm sure it was an accident, right?" And just then, the second plane hit the other tower... We logged off of the computer and I spent the next two hours glued to the TV. The Pentagon, the collapse of the towers...I tried calling everyone I knew in the DC area but couldn't get through to anyone. I called the nearest hospital and asked if I could donate blood - they told me to call Red Cross. I did and the girl I spoke to hadn't heeard, I told her and she said it would take them a few hours to get set but yes, please come in. I left then and waited 6 hours to do the only thing I knew to help. Then I found out it probably would not help, there were so few survivors. My roommate came home and we sat together on the couch. Her friends called to see if she wanted to go and talk with them, she turned them down. I was grateful that she elected to stay home with me, as I had only arrived a few weeks earlier and had no friends or family in the area. There was very little talking - a lot of silence and a lot of crying. There were no words that could express our grief for the loss of life or our true terror and non-comprehension over the sheer evil behind the plot that was executed that day. We had a 2 hour delay in Newark because of the inclement weather on the night of 9-10. We sat in the plane looking across the river at the New York City Sky Line. My eyes always have a tendency to focus in on the Twin Towers, the last time I'd see them in their splendor. I was awake in my kitchen at 5:50 when my Mom called from New Jersey, 9 miles from NYC. She was relieved to hear my voice and that I was ok after saying goodbye to each other the night before. Then her voice choked, and she began crying, "why are they doing this to us? Oh the smoke, the fire and the people stuck up in the World Trade Center, turn your TV on." I tried to calm her down and told her firmly, "shut the TV off Mom,if this is going to upset you, just don't watch it!" My Mom doesn't usually get upset, so I did have a pit in my gut. I told her I'd watch the TV. When I turned it on, I could hardly stand it. I quickly shut it off, ran to my bedroom to wake up my husband and tell him what was happening. I told him, "with what I'm going to say, be quiet cause I don't want the kids to hear." He was in disbelief,and shouted out "what???" We calmly got our 15 year old ready for school. I wanted to shelter her, and part of me did not want to admit that this horrid thing had happened. She and I visited NYC last year and she loved it. So, I knew she would by upset. My husband and daughter left our home for the day. I forced myself to put the TV on. I watched a short time, then shut it off, I could not take it. I recall doing this a number of times. I called my son's school and told them since we got home so late from our flight, he would not wake up and that I would keep him home. The secretary was relieved that we had made it home ok. I watched the first tower fall, and while in disbelief, I fell to my knees to thank God for sparing our lives by allowing us to get home only a number of hours before this occured. My son awoke, and I grabbed him and told him a horrible thing had happened to our country. I'll never forget the look on his face, I wanted to spare him of this horror. We watched the second tower come down. He then said to me, "look Mom," as he pointed to the picture hanging on the wall of himself with the Twin Towers behind him, "now it's just history Mommy." Out of the mouths of babes... My 15 year old called on her cell phone, something she never uses at school, and repeated the events to me. She feared for our extended family in the NYC metro area and thought that the entire NYC metro area was being evacuated. I reassured her the worst was over, but was it? I was physically ill for a number of days after this happened. I found myself going to a room by myself and wretching and crying. Numb, that's also how I felt. I could no longer get a hold of friends who worked at the WTC and in Manhattan. I was fortunate, as they all were ok. I was consoled more by strangers than my family, and of course, anyone I knew who was from the NYC area was able to relate to how I felt. I had friends here in Phoenix who knew firemen that worked in Manhattan, so sorry to find out that their lives were sacrificed. We have to live for the moment, and to never take each other forgranted. My utmost respect goes out to our firemen, police and EMT's. I remember my college age boy Cory was getting a ride that day, so I concentrated on my 5th grader Ryan and my 2nd grader Ricky. Just as I was telling them that we had to hurry and brush hair and teeth, I had Katie Couric interviewing someone on tv. It cut to the plane and smoke from the tower. At that time we all thought it was a replay of the small plane that hit the Empire State Building years ago. Someone tragically got lost and disoriented and accidentally hit one of the towers. I proceeded to get the boys ready and began to walk them to school. Going to a very large elementary school, I dropped the 5th grader off at the first building, and when I was walking back from dropping the 2nd grader off from the second building, other parents started asking me if I heard what had happened, I said yes, thinking it was only the one plane, but by that time it was the second plane. I couldn't beleive it, I walked very fast home, called my husband at work, he hadn't heard about it. I spoke to him a few times while watching the Today show, but then went to my job up at the same elementary school that my youngest boys were attending. I just wanted to be near them and I wondered how many of the children there had parents that worked at the WTC? I managed to contact my son from college they were sending them home. I thought to bring my am/fm radio with me to work so I could hear what was happening. I just had to be near the kids. When I got there, there were several parents coming to take thier children out of school. We were making preperations for a lock down, guarding the doors. I am also the president of the PTA there, and I wanted to help as much as I can, I know most of the kids, and thier parents. A neighbor whose son I was looking at worked at the towers, thankfully he twisted his knee, he was only one of two to survive from his company, but I didn't know that as I tried to occupy his son. We didn't tell the children anything was going on. It was hard, there were teachers crying in the hallway, we were trying to share our news quietly, informing each other of what was going on. Who had sons/husbands/fathers/ mothers/ daughters/ sisters that worked at the towers or surrounding areas? It was so hard, not knowing, not being able to do anything,and by that time, there was no cell phone usage either. The towers had collapsed the utter helplessness. My last cell phone call was from my college son. He was home safe. I told him to stay there. He listened, he was only 2 blocks away, I wished I could be with all my sons, but I didn't want to take my little ones out of school. For days the numbness hung about with the dispair and utter disbelief... But no one, not one parent or close realative of anyone at our particular school was lost at the towers that day. Not one. We were one of the rare ones. Almost everyone I knew lost someone, or knew someone who lost someone. No one was untouched. But our school was lucky. I used to be able to see or hear a plane going to one of the 3 major airports around here every few minutes. To not hear anything for the first time in my life was scary. But to hear those helicopters in the middle of the night was scarier. I would wake up shaking. I checked my kids constantly in the middle of the night. Sometimes I crawled into bed with them. I will never be the same. Never. I cry whe I see / hear / or talk about 9/11. I still can't believe it. I am mortified at the thought of someone somewhere rejoicing and dancing in the street at the deaths of innocent people. We have to find a way to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again. There is no way to understand it. I recently went to a website and printed out the names of those who died on 9/11, on all the airplanes, at the Pentagon, and at the Twin Towers. It filled a loosleaf book single, typed, small font. It filled a book. Unfathomable. I keep it here next to me by the computer. I say so I won't forget. But that is assuming anyone ever could. I left my corporate job to watch children on the playground. I was thankful I was able to do that. But now I guard them. I watch everyone that drives by. I think of places to hide children on the playground. I think of different scenarios and what my action would be. I am more suspicous but more appreciative. I think I am a nicer person than I was, I definately volunteer more : with children. The end of the school year, I made sure the 50th anniversary of the school was celebrated in a huge way. A festive way. I wanted to replace some memories for the kids all 1000 of them in our school. I think I may have, the teachers and administration of the school were wonderful, they helped, and put on a show as well. If it were legal to make all transactions cease for a day then I would want a National day of celebration of the heros that own that day. All of them. I told him I was going to get it and hang it in front of the house, where we usually just hung it on holidays. But it has been there ever since. I have at least 20 t-shorts with American Flags on them in various designs. I have a purse that looks like a flag. I definatly am prouder of the flag, and wave it more, every chance I get. School had been in for one week and I was just starting to become accustomed to eighth grade, my new teachers, new classrooms, and getting back into the swing of things, when suddenly it all changed. Rumors began circulating through the school during lunch. We had a barbecue outside, and during it three peoples parents came and picked them up. No one knew what was going on. After school, me and a few of my friends were having a football game out on the field. A couple of seventh graders came up to us and told us that planes had flown in to both world trade towers and into the pentagon. Then they said how the towers had fallen. We were all shocked. We saw tragedies happening all over the world, but never thought it could happen to us. We were the invulnerable giants, the US, how could this happen to us? I took the bus home and for the first time ever, my mom, little sister, and older sister were there to pick me up in the car. They validated what I had heard earlier. My older sister worked in the Prudential and told me that the whole city of Boston was evacuated. At home, on the TV, the only thing that was on were pictures of the towers falling. It looked like something that you would have seen in the movie Independence Day. But this was true, it had really happened, and real lives were lost. I heard the familiar sounds of morning, with one exception. The News anchor announced that a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers. I didn't think much of it, thinking it was a minor accident, and I continued my way to school. While at school, I began to discuss what I heard with my friends, wondering if they had heard the same thing. We started to walk to the Purple Penguin (school run snack supply store) to purchase cookies. WHen we reached the top, we immediately noticed the television, depicting a building on fire, and right during live coverage of the event, we all watched in horror and disbelief as a second plane crashed into the building. Attending UHS, we all naturally started discussing the effect this would have on the United States, both economically and in terms of moral, not to mention how Bush would handle it. If so, tell us how. I think the thing that changed most for people that didn't know anyone directly involved in the attacks was the way we value our citizenship. We were all hit with a wave of patriotism, and whether or not that wave came for the right reasons, one cannot determine, but it did instill in all of us what it means to call yourself American, and the obligations behind it. We learned our strengths, and that's what should be remembered, as well as all the people that became a casualty of 9/11, both deceased and living. I don't need a flag to show my patriotism, my family and I are very proud to be Americans, and enough people can tell without having to see a 2' x 3' flag flying on our car antenna. Due to September 11th, when I look at our flag, I see all of the different unique people that add luster to the colors and sparks to the stars. I don't think there are many if any countries that can really match our love and pride after the events that happened, but it makes everyone think twice when they sing their national anthem or say the pledge of alligance. I had gotten up around 6:30a.m to start getting my 6 yr. old son ready for school.Being as I work 2nd. shift at Dan River Inc., I came home after dropping him off at 8:20, and went to lay down for alittle while longer.I was awakened around 9:05. My husbund was calling to tell me that a plane had crashed into one of the WTC Towers. My television was already on,and I saw it imedieatly. I just thought it had been some kind of accident.I hung up the phone, but continued to watch. Then I saw a plane, fly ddetailsinto the second tower. At first I thought the news station was showing the 1st. plane again on tape. It only took a second or so to relize that it was the 2nd. tower being hit.Fear and shock ran through me.God in Heaven! how could this be happening? Me and my brother spent the entire day watching T.V., me in my room on MSNBC, my brother in the kitchen on CNN, both of us hollering back and forth details as to what was happening.Never will I forget.This is our Pearl Harbor. I woke up, got dressed and ready, and went to school, not knowing any of the tragic events that would transpire that heartrending day. It was first period, my science class, when a janitor informed us that a plane had struck one of the WTC towers. At that time, I believed then that the whole ordeal had been an accident. We continued through class as always, but it was apparent that the news was on eveyone's mind. The bell rang, and my class went to PhysEd. We viewed the events on "The Today Show" for the remainder of the day. During this time, we watched the second plane hit. All doubts were laid to rest then; the tragedy was now an attack on our country. I was genuinely afraid for a while. Would these be the only attacks that day? Or were there others? We need to remember the effect it had on us all and how we changed and adapted according to the tragedy. But, most importantly, we must remember the heroism shown by those who have tirelessly worked to save others and the champions on the downed flight in Pennsylvania. That morning on september 11, 2001 I woke up at 5:30am, turned on the tv, and saw two building, one on fire. I remember thinking it wasn't a big deal I was still half asleep. I went back to bed and woke up an hour later looking at the tv. When I realized what I happened I ran to my mother and father and shouted, "We are being attacked!". My family ran to the tv and we all sat and watched in fear. I remember sitting there thinking who would do this? Why would anyone want to harm people that didn't do anything wrong? What is happening to the United States? My family was cowering in fear, worrying about our family back east. I remember my father calling his work saying he wasn't going. My mother calling our family seeing if they are ok. I remembering watching people fall out of buildings, seeing people scream for help, and I began to cry. When I cried I wasn't bawling it was a cry of sadness, I couldn't start bawling I was in a state of shock that my tears came down so slowly and my heart was pounding so quickly. I learned to live life to the fullest, and not let other people control my life by bombing us or thinking that I will live my life in fear. I will not step down to the level of lossing self-control. Share your experience. it was an ordinary day. those common blue skys that give you the feeling that absolutly nothing could go wrong. it was one of those days that started out like normal in my town. the neighbor walked his dog in the park on the way to school, the kids lounging about the entrence before the bell rings, and the occasional hollar of the vice principal when a few kids are acting out of line... abosolutly nothing new was happening, or at least that was the mindframe in Winthrop. how were we supposed to know that something that would change the way we feel about our world was about to occur, how were we supposed to expect the thousands of lost lives, how we we supposed to know of the people in our skies that only wanted to give us harm??? but we didnt, we were all fooled by the saphirly blue sky... i was sitting in the middle of Social Studies when the whole day aura changed. we were just about to start class when the principal ran into our room, she was quick to pull my teacher Mr. Pinkman out of the class. at that momment my whole class knew something was up... so the day contienued with people in the hall trading secrets about what they think was happening. but i didnt trust a single word. i can even recall a kid saying, "its probably a big bombing goin on somewhere in Eruope or something, nothing could never happen here." but sadily my good friend was mistaken, we soon heard from my science teacher that there were "situations" going on around the United States. i came home later on the day to see my sister sprawled on the coach under a down comforter, she seemed shocked at what was going on, on the TV. i turned and saw the one of the buildings falling... i can never get that image out of my head. If so, tell us how. we all have changed from that day further, whether we admit it or not. i knew i have never thought of the airports and the flag in the same way after the attacks. when 9-11 occured, i came to my house and didnt find my parents there at all, my mom works for the airlines, and the tenants living with us are both flight attendants, so i was horrified. never have i thought of my mom in the same amount of fear than i did at that momment. so about five minutes later, my sister finally got off the ohone, then she told me that both of my parents, both with psycology phds, were at the Logan airport counseling people. i forgot to mention that my town is basically touching Logan Aiport, and that we house alot of their employees. so BIG is an understatement or the attacks effect on my town. we all met in the towns center, later on in the week, there the affects were really felt. people we crying and we were bein adressed by the selectman of our little town, hear you could feel the loss of some of the townsfolk, there i knew that we all we connected, maybe not by blood but by another source, there was a large feeling of love there and i will never forget it. in the week of the tragidy's aftermaths, i didnt see my parents for days, they practically slept at the airport that night, and my sister was on the phone 24-7. so i was left there a my house feeling all alone, thinking about all of those people who lost their lives, i couldnt help but cry. thats how i changed from that day forward, i knew i have to learn to be more independant, but to be able to love other people just for the sake of them being there. i also learned that showing your emotions isnt wrong or weak, for thousands maybe even millions were doin the same thing at that very momment. That day changed all of us, some in small ways but for me, i felt it in a big way. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? we should rememeber the feeling of comming together with a new form of unity, that could only come from such great of a tragedy. We should remeber that we live in a smaller world than what we allow ourselves to believe. We should remember the little ray of hope that can arise from the bottom of Pandora's box. We MUST remember that this goes on everyday, maybe not in the same amount of catastrophy, but terrorism happens everyday to less fortunate people in third world countries, thats what must be remebered from this expirence. Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? yes my family did fly our flag. the flag took on a new meaning in my life at least, after the attacks. i used to think it was just a flag, nothing to show TOO much patriotism in, cause then you would look like a fool. but now it has a greater meaning... this flag has become a bond between all us Americans, whether we accept it or not. it is like a chain between us all, not one of slavery but one of obligation. Obligation to love another person, not because of what they are, but who they are, they are human beings just like you or i. we are all humans, though we may have a different skin color or religion, we are all one in the same. we cannot be brought down to the level of hate, or this chain that we have connecting all of us together, will be broken...
