<text> The country, although wounded, has grown and learned. The U.S. needed to increase security. The age of large military forces attacking the homeland are over. The country now recognizes a mobile and stealthy force threatens not only the government, but also each individual. We are much more prepaired to stop terrorist attacks. Americans also will not be as shocked at the next attack.
The sense of widespread patriotism is also a good outcome from this tragedy. Americans are remember that they are citizens of a great country.
As for myself, the tragedy created great change in my life. Soon after 9/11, my National Guard MP unit was activated for the homeland defense mission at Boston's Logan International Airport (where I met my future wife). After that we were deployed to the Afghanistan area of operations.
That one day took me from my civilian life for almost two years. Two years that I proudly served. There was no nobler task than to put on my country's uniform to protect the living and to bring the fight to the killers of the innocents.</text>

A fellow soldier came in from next door in my barracks room and told me, "Come in here. Now." The sense of urgency in his voice was so dire that I came into his room with one sock on to watch the impact on his television.

I knew my son would be there. I prayed for his safety and all of the uniformed people, I knew they were going in, as others were going out. My husband called him on his cell, and said be careful, we love you. That was the last time we spoke to him Both he and his partner were lost. Thankfully, they were recovered about 6 months later. He was our only child. His name is Keith Fairben, his partner was Mario Santoro.</text>

<text>I was teaching Technology at St. Elizabeth School in Washington Heights, West 187th Street. Our first concern was the safety of our children and we decided at first not to inform the children so as not to scare them. The children we teach are in grades Pre K to 8th Grade. As the situation worsened and we got word of the buildings collapsing, parents started arriving and taking their children home. At that point we said there was a problem with the subways and parents would be picking up their children. We tried to continue as normal a day as we could until most of the children had been picked up. I kept in contact with my family through cell phone communication and ascertained their safety. The Principal and Assistant Principal live at the school and they waited with any children who were not picked up. </text>

<text> It was almost impossible to get home as the George Washington Bridge was closed for safety. I decided to cross to the Bronx and take home 3 young ladies who car pooled with me. As we crossed the 181st Street Bridge into the Bronx the scene was surreal. Most people were walking across the Bridge as the buses were stopped. Upon looking towards the lower part of Manhattan I will never forget what I saw. The huge columns of smoke that covered the sky coming from where the World Trade Center buildings had stood. We couldn't help but think of all the people in the buildings and we prayed for them.</text>

I guess at first I was in shock wondering how this could have happened, then wondering how many more planes were in the air heading for targets. This event angered me, if they had an issue with the US Government, then they should have came after the military instead of being chickens and attacking helpless civilians. I was so proud of the civilians that forced the plane into the ground before it hit it's target. They were true patriots, someone I wish that I had here in my reserve unit. Since I am an Army Reserve Soldier and I was at an Army Reserve Facility, we quickly took steps to secure our facility, taking count of everyone in the facility and checking for unknown people. After we were secure I finally had time to contact my wife to make sure that she and my daughter were fine and to let her know that I was okay. We all had preparations to make in case we were needed, but we had all of the TVs on in the facility, keeping up on all possible information that was avaiable. I think that my strongest feelings from this event is anger that they were such chickens and pride in our people coming together and our country standing up to this attack.</text>

It has allowed the common person on the street to get a better understanding of what the uniformed services (firemen, policemen and the military) of this nation face every day. It showed them the dedication that our uniformed services have and live by. It has made me even more proud to be in the military serving to defend my country. I have spent time on active duty and now I am in the reserve, this year I will have been in the military for 25 years and I have no expectation of getting out, especially not now, while we have a job to finish.</text>

Bratislava, Slovakia, Pope John Paul II,9/11/03 "...a

expressions that promotes the family as a place of
reciprocal love and growth of persons, that seeks the
common good and is attentive to the needs of the
weakest". . . .

advantages. Great affluence, in fact, can also
generate great poverty."

Subject: 8/25/2003/Associated Press/Gina
Holland/Supreme Court Article/Miranda Rights
   NYT, International, 8/23/03, ". . . Life on the
Run"

Article I, Section 19 of the Texas Constitution
states: "No citizen
of this state shall be deprived of life, liberty,
property, privileges
or immunities, or in any other manner disenfranchised,
except by
the due course of the law of the land."
It is the continuous flagrant actions of the following
two-faced
self-serving sneaks(on both sides)that causes these
and other types of monetary/legal shortfalls.
So justify this, if you can!
This "play for cash, food, hotel room(lodging)" is no
new thing.
If one wants to put someone into jail, cause trouble
even kill or injure a person
with no retaliation just go to your local
shelters(both religious
and non-religious). These low lifes get preference in
dealing with not only
their immediate needs, food, shelter, cash, but also a
consideration
on their so-called mental/physical state, employment
and any pending legal
problems/arrests. Misplace a file, letter(s), phone
call or bank
withdrawal in exchange for payback for services
rendered.
I guess if I was a
trans-sexual/racial/handicapped/disabled minority I
would get a better response. The fact that I was left
without money
or legal redress on a consistent basis doesn't appear
to be a concern to ANYONE!
I was an Independent Fee Appraiser for the Veterans
Administration
in Los Angeles, California and what is/was done to me
is not only
disgraceful, traumatic and extremely disgusting it is
a matter of
public record. I am able to speak with considerable
authority as to the lack of sensitivity to
a single self-sufficient working mother of a minor
child not on
welfare or ingesting, illegal or otherwise, drugs et
cetera. A person who not only
was a responsible homeowner but in the true sense of
the word a
"compassionate and caring" landlord. And, much to my
disadvantage,
as the record shows, a good and concerned citizen to
an ungrateful
two-timing/two-faced sniveling nation. A woman who,
under the guise
of National Security(FBI File 18903TA0), has been
denied the basic
necessities of life, limb, security and justice.
Let's talk about Drs. Frankenstein and unmentionable
Nazis who cloak
their activities by the bastardization and
prostitution of the Legal/Health
Care System for their own advancement.
An arrest in Austin, Texas, October 17,2001 on the
University of
Texas at Austin. Confinement in solitary for 45 days
in a highly litigated,
ill-constructed and unhealthful Criminal justice
Center. The transfer
to a mental hospital after being notified by the
mental health worker for the
sheriff's department that the Request for Personal
Recog. was signed
by a Judge "two weeks" prior to being transmitted to
me and after refusing a
Plea Bargain.
A convenient re-arrest periodically, in this case May
29, 2003 and
incarceration until July 23, 2003 and re-psych
evaluation. Crime
still the original University of Texas litigation and
the incorrect
Request for Personal Recog. paperwork plus another
convenient Criminal
Trespass and dubious criminal charge.(Booking
#03-22-724)
Such actions set a dangerous precedent if this is not
dealt with.
I am not and I repeat NOT an experimental specimen to
be subjected
to flagrant indecent mishandling and abuse. The fact
that I am
still alive and kicking and very healthy demonstrates
their total
ineptitude and why this country is experiencing the
difficulties
it is today. FBI File 18903TA0
3/5/03, Houston Chronicle, Political Cartoon,
Editorial Page
"But of course, nothing like this would ever happen to
a person of, uh,
consequence.
Shoddy lab work, shoddy legal counsel, shoddy appeals
and who knows how
many wrongful convictions and . . . "

Sincerely,

Carol Davidson
I used think an American Citizen with no FBI file!

I read your article in the Austin American
Statesman,12/15/03,Bullied Child Grew Into A

I turned the radio on as soon as I got to my desk and when I heard the news of the second plane, went to the internet news sites and started to watch the story unfold. We really didn't accomplish much at work that day, everytime something new came across the news, we gathered around the computer to watch.</text>

Living in and working in the Wichita, Kansas, area, where the major employer is Boeingas well as the other aircaft manufacturers and the many subcontractorsour local econmy has suffered and that has touched our lives in very direct ways.

While my husband and I have not been unemployedor feel particularly at risk of unemployment, we have friends and neighbors who have been unemployed. One of our volunteer projects is holiday help for families, distributing food and gifts. We have seen more families asking for help in the last two years as the long term effects of the downturn in airline travel nationwide has trickled down to impact our local economy.

<text>On September 11,2001 I was in my dorm room at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Mi. I woke up to the man on the radio saying there has been a terrible plane crash. That a plane has crashed into the World Trade Center. I did not think anything about it, just another plane crash I said to myself then went to my political science class. After class I arrived back at my dorm and my roomate told me that we were under attack and that is when I ran to the tv to see the second plane hit the second tower. We watched the news the rest of the day and I was so sad and scared. I wanted to be back home in Algonac, Mi with my family and loved ones. I just wanted to hold my loved ones. I could not just hop in the car and go home I had to stay at school and I was not able to drive for 3 hours home. So I did the next best thing. I called my family to say I love them. Before my next class started I found out that they closed the campus down for the day and all classes were cancelled. The first time my college has closed down. The rest of the day and week everyone talked of the terrorist attacks. This memory is forever stuck in my head.</text>

<text>On the morning of September 11, 2001, I had just gotten out of my english class and was on my way to band. I was in eighth grade andwent to Lakota Ridge Junior School. In between classes I heard that the World Trade Towers had been bombed. This didn't mean very much to me at the time, a couple of floors being bombed is big, but not unbelievable. When I got to band class, my teacher turned on the T.V. and we proceeded to watch the planes fly into the towers, and then watch the towers collapse. The sights were horrific.Confusion, anger, grief, and disbelief filled the streets, news broadcasters were overwhelmed and disiorented. We watched the news for the rest of class, and when the bell rang and I entered the hallway, many people were silent, shocked at what just occured. In my next class was a girl bawling. Her father was a trucker, and he had a delivery today at the World Trade Towers. She was incredibly scared and there really wasnt much you could do, nobody knew if he survived or not. The day continued and the later it got, the quieter the halls were as more people learned about the tragic attacks. I went home after school, and my mom talked to my sister, brother and I. She explained about terrorism and how many countries loathe the U.S. I never really took this into consideration before September 11. The next few days passed as if in a dream. The damage done and lives lost were unbelievable. Talking to my family and friends helped relieve some of the stress, and answer some questions. </text>

<text>Recently after September 11th, many people were reminded of patriotism. I saw a lot more flags, and I saw how lucky I am to live in such a great country. Today, about two years after the attacks, the attacks really haven't effected me. I didn't lose any friends or family members in the attacks, I didn't even know anyone who passed away. The only thing that really changed is that I see a lot more flags displayed. September 11th definitley opened many eyes, but the effects soon died away. The attacks did nothing to directly effect my way of living. Life went back to normal very soon after September 11th which is a horrifying fact. How many lost lives will it take to open up everybody's eyes?</text>

<text> I remember September 11, 2001 very well. I was fourteen years old. It started for me in the hall of my Ohio Junior Highschool. A boy I knew passed me in the hall, a grin on his face.

Lauren theres been an attack! On the World Trade Center! Someone crashed into the side! Its so cool! In seconds the crowd had pushed him away. I was confused; I didnt see how that was cool at all. I entered my third period class, Mrs. Muncys computer typing class. She had the TV on and was staring at it in shock. I went to my desk and sat down, my own eyes glued to the TV. Without realizing it I was soon on my feet as well, ignoring the other students as they filled into the room. All I could do was stare at the TV in horror.

Around me the students went to work, typing the assignments as we had been trained to. I didnt move. I just stared at the TV. I thought about how much the boy in the hall must regret his words now. I remember glancing around the room, not understanding how the other kids could just work like that. Didnt they realize what was happening? How many people were dying?

I watched the first tower fall, saw the images of running New Yorkers and of the giant cloud that followed them, watching as fleeing figures were engulfed by it. I remember everyone being coated with dirt. I can recall the feeling that filled me-the pure shock and terror for the people I saw on the screen.

And then I saw the second tower fall. I will always remember what I thought as I watched it crumble and heard the all but crying voices of the reporters.

Oh God. Were going to war.

Throughout the day we watched the newscasts. I had to force myself to leave the cafeteria; I couldnt stand how the kids just went on talking. I couldnt stand how many of them didnt even think about what was happening in New York. I went to the library and watched from there. I remember wanting to help the people in New York so badly. I had sudden urges to join the army, join the firefighters-to just DO anything to help. I felt so trapped in West Chester, Ohio, far away from where I could help. My fingers shook with the need to help somehow.

The day after school is a blue, I returned home I retreated to the downstairs (I couldnt bring myself to watch the images again with my mother and brother) and to the telephone, calling my best friend for comfort. Dinner was quite, the news was on. No one spoke, we just ate. Then we went to bed. And then the next morning we woke up, and went to work and school.

<text>That day started out like any other day. I barely got to school on time and was already about to fall asleep halfway through my first class when another student came in. Nobody paid much attention when she started talking to the teacher, but when the TV came on and everyone started to realize what was happening, we paid very close attention. At first I didn't believe what was happening. I knew it was real, but the only thing I thought was that this can't be real. The whole class sat there silent, just glued to the screen. We listened to everything being said. We'd switch channels back and forth just in case we might miss something, but it was all the same. Everything was the same, what was happening was real. That was the craziest realization, that what I was watching was happening to real people. The rest of the day didn't matter; every class was watching what was happening. I'll always remeber what one teacher said to my class. He said "You'll remember this day for the rest of your life, you will know what you were doing, who was with you and what was said". He was right.</text>

<text>As a Biology teacher at Leander High School in Leander, Texas, I was in my classroom preparing my lecture for that day. I turned on the television to listen to the early news when the first thing I saw was the first tower bellowing smoke and shortly thereafter seeing a jet slam into the second tower.
I sat in my chair in disbelief; maybe instead of watching the news I was watching a movie. But slowly it dawned on me... this is real!
At the appointed time students began to arrive. As they entered they asked if we were watching a video. I motioned for them to sit down. Once the class started, I advised them of what was happening. At first, they thought I was joking. I was bombarded with questions such as "Are we going to war?" or "Are they going to drop bombs on us?". Several of my students started to cry. I assured my students that we were safe. I also told them that if we went to war against whoever did this, our military would take care of it.
That day I did not teach Biology. We watched what was happening and I answered questions from my students.</text>

I was a Junior in High School at the time of the attacks and now I'm a Senior. I remember that I could almost hear a pin drop when we were watching the news and some of us even had tears in our eye's and then just watching the tower's come crashing down to the ground was very hard to watch. In the days that followed the attacks I remember arriving at school everyday to see our flags flying at half staff for several weeks and then our school did a money drive to help the people of New York and Pennsylvania. I felt sad for all those families who lost their loved ones on that day and I will never be able to forget them.</text>

<text> On September 11, 2001, I was at the technical college where I was earning an associates degree in marketing. It was morning and I was walking through the halls on the bottom floor. It was a crisp bright morning, and I felt motivated and happy. I was on my way to the library when I noticed two of my instructors watching television. I asked "what's goin on guys?"
No one answered me. I looked up to the television to witness live coverage of one of the twin towers burning with a huge gap in the top of it. I was horrified, but not as horrified as I was when I witnessed the second plane hitting the other tower on live television. My heart sunk and I looked directly into one of my instructors eye and I could see that he was crying. I felt the tears on my face, warm and trickling from my chin. I went to the restroom and cried to myself. I could not for the life of me stop thinking of the utter horror of the people on those planes and in those buildings. It hurt me to think of those poor people and the hell the went through. For the rest of the day the college held classes as usual, but only optional classes. We discussed what had happened and our anger for those who had done it. That afternoon I went home and went to bed emotionally drained by the graphic scenes I had witnessed on television all day long. </text>

<text> The events of september 11th have effected the United States of America in a devestating way. It has opened the door for political extremism, and has set us back in racial relations. The events of 9/11, 2001 has devistated our economy, and shaken the very foundation of freedom in America.
Shortly after 9/11 I decided to change my choice in education. I decided to concentrate on my family and work instead of going to school for marketing. I felt as if my faith in the good of humanity was lost, and my trust in people as individuals would never be the same. A few of my friends from school had left for afghanistan. Many of my friends started families, and moved away. I basically resigned to an average life, and just trying to survive and be there to love my family. For a while afterwards everyone I knew and know lived in a state of fear; waiting for the next shoe to drop. We discussed nuclear attacks in the cities nearby, and how we would survive terrorist attacks.
The trust in humanity we once had as Americans in a free country has been destroyed because of the terrorists of 9/11. We now all live in a state of fear and defense. This is not a happy country, and I don't know when it will become one. I believe the only people that are happy about the way things are going in this country are the few militaristic radicals of wars past, and the religious zealots who seak an end... a proof of their beliefs. The "I told you so's", and the "end is neighs."</text>
