Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I started college in the fall of 2001. I was only a college freshman for five days when September 11th occurred. Billings, Montana is only 3 hours from my home in Wyoming but it always seemed farther, especially on that day. I woke up got ready for Sociology and received a phone call from a friend attending the same college as me. Scott told me to turn on my TV. "Haven't you heard? I think we are going to war? A plane has flown into one of the world trade center buildings!" I turned on my TV and my confusion turned to disbelief as I fell onto my extra-long twin bed. I was staring at what looked to be an action movie as I heard Scott's voice yelling from the phone, "are you okay, are you there?" I began to cry after I hung up with Scott. I called my mom crying telling her I wanted to come home, I didn't want to be this far away if the US was going to war on our soil! She comforted me the best she could before hanging up. Questions were swirling in my mind, like is this the end of the world, why would someone want to hurt Americans, would I be able to get married? I questioned if class would be held but decided to go. As I walked down the halls afraid that someone might fly a 757 into my dormitory, I watched other teens and twenty somethings witness the most horrific attack on US soil that Americans had ever seen. Everyone I passed walked in a daze, mouths open, tears brimming their eyes, quiet, and polite. I sat in class next hundreds of other students who seemed to be as clueless and as numb as I was. I do not remember what Professor Hart was teaching about that day but I do remember how one Montana campus pulled together and lifted each other up that fall.
