El dia estaba clarisimo cosa que el humo que ya salia de la primera torre relucia contra el azul del cielo. Pense, como tantos en ese momento, que se habia estrellado una avioneta contra el edificio. Honestamente, y esto quizas tenga que ver con lo mucho que requiere causar una impresion en un neoyorquino, no pense ni en el piloto ni en la perdida de otras vidas. Solo me parecia como otro pequeno capitulo en la historia de una gran ciudad. Cuando llegue a mi oficina tenia un recado de mi esposa que la llamara de inmediato. Esa conversacion, la cual duro apenas unos minutos, hizo que pensara de nuevo en la pluma de humo que habia visto unos minutos antes. Atacaban el pais. Como trabajamos en la sombra del Empire State Building, decidimos evacuar el edificio e irnos para nuestros hogares. Uno no sabia si los terroristas pensaban tambien en derrumbar ese simbolo de la ciudad. Temia montarme en un tren y decidi caminar de la oficina en la calle 34 hasta mi casa en la 218. Me tomo 4 horas llegar a casa. Lo que mas me impresiono de ese viaje por casi todo Manhattan, fue que toda la ciudad parecia estar, por un momento, concentrado en el mismo tema. Por unas horas toda raza, todo genero, toda nacionalidad se unio como neoyorquino.
