Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The morning of September 11, 2001 I was with my little girl watching cartoons. She was almost one at the time so she didn't like watching the news that much! I got a call from a woman at my church telling me about the first planing hitting the WTC and I immediately turned on the news. I was glued to the TV most of the day. My husband was at work and I was calling him periodically with updates. Both of my brothers and my sister-in-law work in DC so I wasn't able to relax until I heard from them and knew they were okay. I must have talked to my mother and best friend at least a dozen times each. It was very odd for me to watch all of the death and devastation because I was 3 months pregnant at the time. I kept thinking about the life growing inside me and the hope that it represented. I thought about the many women who were pregnant whose husbands would never see their babies born...and about the children who would never know their fathers...and about everyone else who experienced a loss that cruel day. My heart was broken. I still think about all of those people each day. My heart was filled with pride for our country and I desired so much to do something to help. But what could I do? I thought and prayed and then I realized that I could have an impact on the lives around me. I can raise my kids to respect the differences in people and not to hate. I can reach out to people who are hurting and I can be proud to be an American. Today is September 11, 2002. This morning I sat on the floor playing with BOTH of my daughters and as my mind went back to one year ago I realized that as Americans, we are stronger when faced with adversity, we are united against a common foe and we are blessed beyond compare.
