Title A name given to the resource September 11 Digital Archive Stories Description An account of the resource This collection is the bulk of the archive, representing the reactions and experiences of thousands of individuals beginning in 2002. 911DA Story 911DA Story: Story Tell us about what you did, saw, or heard on September 11th. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was on my way into work when it was announced on the radio of the WTC being hit by an airplane. There was no indication of how serious the situation really was. I believe it was first thought to be a small plane. One of my sisters called me at work a short while later to tell me of what was going on. I could tell by the fear and panic in her voice that it was a very serious matter and it became apparent that someone was attacking our nation. My sister was aware that I didn't have access to a television set at my place of employment so we talked on and off many times throughtout the day about what was going on. We discussed the possibilities of the pilots of the planes being forced to fly into the buildings by terrorists. I told my co-workers of what was unfolding in New York city and we all went together in search of a television set. We watched in horror as reports of more planes hitting the Pentagon and crashing in Pennsylvania. When I got home from work I found it very hard to pull myself away from watching on TV. I have five children who were aware of what was going on. My oldest watched the days events unfold in the library at her high school. We were all terrified. I found myself standing outside watching for airplanes flying erratically or lower than they should be. Even knowing that all planes had been grounded. I feel that I along with many others in our nation was in a state of shock for days or even weeks after that horrible day. The suffering that was taking place in my own home state was so unexplainable. How could anyone infringe this upon innocent human beings? I could now relate to people who said they remembered where they were and what they were doing when they heard that President Kennedy had been shot. Being just an infant then I was unaware of the day of his death. September 11,2001 is a day that I will never forget and I will always remember where I was and what I was doing when it all began. It is truly one of the saddest days in the history of the United States of America.
