911DA Story: Story

September 11th was the eye opener of our generation. For many Americans the world had stoped turning this day, or this is how I remembered it.

It was a normal morning as I began to get ready. I was to play in the Hardin-Simmons University Concert Band for our presidential inauguration. As I was heading out the dormitory to arrive early for a practice I found it strange that there were a swarm of girls in our lobby watching the news. Everything was dead silent. As I stopped to watch I remember seeing one building engulfed with flames. Hearing that a plane had crashed into it I thought it at first to be an accident. As soon as the thought registered into my mine a second plane hit the second tower. I managed to stay to see one of the towers collapse. This is when I realized that this was definitely not an accident.

I arrived at the University Chapel to hear lots of people talking about what was going on and what the plane crashes meant. As the first speaker came to present a speech it was explained that something dreadful had happened. We had all taken a moment of silence and then we were lead in prayer for the tragedies that had occurred.

No one was really sure that day of what was going on. Many of us knew to little to understand. But for the past six and a half months there has been a closeness with the citizens of America; A closeness with our president as well. We understand what it means to be here. We now understand why we are The "United" States of America.
