Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I had gotten up early, and was listening to my favorite morning radio program; they try to be funny (although they do not always succeed) - and they said a plane had just crashed into the WTC. When they continued talking about for about 10 minutes, I just *had* to check, so I turned on the TV. Oh, my! Thank God both my kids were at school. I was glued to the TV most of the day, I saw the second plane hit, heard of the attack on the Pentagon & watched the video feeds as soon as the networks had them and heard when Flight 93 fell - I cried so, so much. As I am crying now. God Bless the people that died just for showing up to work in the Greatest Nation in the World. God Bless the heroes: those who walked into the WTC in the line of duty (even on their day off) to save lives. Many got Last Rites before walking in (according to a Reader Digest story) - so they walked in willing to give their lives to save others. God Bless our military personnel, they keep us free. God Bless Activated Reservists, they help military personnel keep us free. God Bless those separated who tried to re-join after 9/11. And God Bless all those who have joined the military after 9/11 - they are truly brave. God Bless the USA. One Nation, Indivisible. God Bless R. Gulliani, President Bush, Sec. of State C. Powell & other powers that held us together & kept alive the hope in us when we were torn down. I have always been proud to be an American. To my utter amazement, I am prouder since 9/11 - I did not think that was possible. Having been born & bred in PR, with a local Mom & American (Montana) Dad, I was horrified and very ashamed in 1990 (Operation Desert Shield/ Operation Desert Storm) when so many PR locals claimed, after years of being reservists - that they were conscientious objectors & therefore could not be sent to war. I was happy to *not* hear or read of this after 9/11. I am no longer in Puerto Rico - although my H is still stationed there. In my apartment complex, we have been asked to keep our balcony lights on from 9/10 to 9/11; as a tribute and "as our way of putting a candle in the window for the innocence we lost 1 year ago". Most of us have complied. My husband was activated Oct. 1, 2001. I was heartsick for about 10 days until I was sure he was not being sent to the Middle East. Many of my H's co-reservists were sent to Diego Garcia, but being Seabees have not seen direct action (I think). I got to witness some of the training for those that were to remain local and were assigned to security - I can only say: I have seen grown men cry. I salute the people assigned to Security at NS Roosevelt Roads; and if every Navy Security Person goes through the same training, I salute all Navy Security Personnel. Being activated has been great for us as a family, and has freed us in many ways. My H is about to get de-activated, and I will re-direct part of my web page to help all those de-activated reservists find better jobs than they had. One year later, a lot has changed: personally within each of us, and as a family. I think every US Citizen has been touched by these horrific events.
