I am a straight, single father of three, but have many friends who live in committed, financially interdependent and loving family relationships who are as much family as any straight couples and would be as devastated emotionally and financially if one partner died. If President Bush could make use of the equal treatment doctrine to gain election, why not gay and lesbian familes and survivors.
