Tuesday, March 19, 2002 1:45 PM PLEASE READ To whom it may concern: I'm not one who normally signs petitions, but I was very upset when I heard that gay and lesbian partners of those who died on September 11 are not automatically going to receive the same benefits as heterosexual spouses. Those partners grieve and suffer loss no different than heterosexual partners. I would be willing to accept "the law is the law" if it were indeed the standard, thereby excluding illegal immigrants and others - but from what I read, they will receive compensation. Either be consistent with the letter of the law or don't. Please make every effort to give full benefits to the American partners of gay or lesbian couples. Make me proud to be an American to know that the right thing was done.
