Friday, January 25, 2002 12:51 PM comment While our hearts go out to the families and friends of those lost, we must also accept that our government and the people of this nation did not cause or contribute to this tragedy. Yet we are being told we MUST pay compensation. $1,600,000 is more than enough money to raise a family. 90% of the people in this country will never have any where near that amount. Don't forget interest and investments and other income available to every one. It is demeaning to the lost to put a dollar value on the life. When I lost my son in a tragedy, I refused $1,000,000 insurance and did not bring a law suit because every penny would have been blood money. No amount of money could compensate for my son so why seek or accept any? I am far from wealthy and worked upwards of 70 hours a week to support my family. Every loss of a love one is a tragedy and each one is heart breaking to the family. But not every one feels our nation must pay for the losses. I don't mean to sound hard but our whole nation has suffered this loss and while we want to help ease the loss, we don't want to be hi-jacked. I donated more tan I can afford but wanted to do my share. Now I feel as though I'm being told I haven't done enough. Please, let's get back to loving this great country and helping to heal ALL our wounds.
