Tuesday, March 12, 2002 12:28 AM 911 Fund I have just read information which indicates that the fund will pay compensation to straight illegal aliens but that gay families are having their back turned upon them by our government. This is morally wrong. Gay people do not want special rights just the same rights as heterosexuals. Gay families who lost a loved one deserve nothing less than their counterparts. I would hope the Bush administration and attorney general's office do the right thing and treat gay families and partners like everyone else. Please do not compound this tragedy by doing such a grave injustice. If this is allowed to stand, I can't tell you how disappointed I will be in my government for doing this. We need to focus on compassion and treating everyone equal. Do not give the world a chance to focus on discrimination. The world sees us as having pulled together. How gay partners and families are being treated is like in the 60's where blacks were discriminated against? Interracial marriages prohibited. Would our government consider paying for just white people? Please backtrack and do the right thing.
