VICTIM COMPENSATION COMMENTS

TO BEGIN WITH, I AM TOTALLY AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT COMPENSATING THE VICTIMS, PERIOD. THE GOVERNMENT DIDN'T COMPENSATE THE VICTIMS' FAMILIES IN THE OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING EVEN THOUGH THE VICTIMS WERE MOSTLY GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES OR CITIZENS IN THE BUILDING DOING BUSINESS WITH THE GOVERNMENT. THE MURRAH FEDERAL BUILDING WAS CHOSEN SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE IT WAS A FEDERAL BUILDING. THE VICTIMS IN THE EMBASSY BOMBINGS WEREN'T COMPENSATED EITHER & THEY WERE ALSO GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. NOR WERE THE VICTIMS IN THE PAN AM BOMBING COMPENSATED. WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN DO WE SINGLE THIS GROUP OUT TO BE COMPENSATED? I THINK BECAUSE OF THE EMOTIONALISM OF THE MOMENT AND THE SCOPE OF THE DISASTER THIS AIRLINE BAIL OUT BILL WAS PASSED IN SUCH A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME THAT NO ONE HAD A CHANCE TO THINK ABOUT THE RAMIFICATIONS. I THINK THE WHOLE BILL IS AN INAPPROPRIATE USE OF TAXPAYERS' MONEY AND I RESENT THAT NOW THE ISSUES OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE HELP WITH PRESCRIPTION DRUGS HAVE BEEN PUT ON THE BACK BURNER. THESE ISSUES AFFECT A LOT MORE PEOPLE THAN THE VICTIMS OF SEPTEMBER 11. THE AIRLINES AND THEIR INSURANCE COMPANIES SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY COMPENSATION GIVEN THE VICTIMS; AFTER ALL, AIRLINE SECURITY WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR LETTING THESE HIJACKERS ON THE PLANES, ALTHOUGH I ADMIT THE GOVERNMENT HAS SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALLOWING BOX CUTTERS ON PLANES AND BEING TOTALLY CLUELESS ABOUT THE THREATS OF TERRORISM AND HAVING NO CONTROL AT ALL OVER IMMIGRATION AND WHO IS ALLOWED IN THE COUNTRY.
I DONATED TO THE VICTIMS FUND AND I THINK THAT CHARITABLE DONATIONS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED WHEN DECIDING HOW MUCH TO GIVE A VICTIM OR FAMILY MEMBER. I THINK VICTIMS' SPOUSES, DEPENDENT CHILDREN AND PARENTS SHOULD HAVE CLAIM TO THE FUNDS; I CAN'T IMAGINE ANY OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS HAVING ANY CLAIM.
