Sunday, March 17, 2002 4:56 PM THIS IS DISCRIMINATION!!!! I read this article and am appalled. I can not believe that our very own government is discriminating against gays and lesbians like this. September 11th was a day that nobody will ever forget. Fortunately for me, I did not know anyone who was killed or affected by the event. I agree that the compensation money going to the families of victims in the tragedy is a good thing and that it will help out as much as it can; however, this money should go to EVERYONE, regardless of race, color, gender, sexual preference, etc. Discriminating against gays and lesbians is wrong and they should get the same treatment as everyone else. If you are willing to give money to fetuses and illegal aliens, then there is no reason what so ever that gays and lesbians should not receive the same treatment. I am a straight individual and feel that just because someone perfers (sexually) something different than the "norm" of soceity, that they should be treated equally. We spent decades trying to end the discrimination against African Americans, and now you are just picking someone new to discriminate against. I hope that after listening to what some people feel about this, that you will reconsider the fund money and treat gays and lesbians with equal compensation.
