That means the families as identified by the ones who survived the devastation of losing a domestic partner; whether that partner be the same or other gender, be equally compensated. While the federal government has yet to recognize domestic partners, state jurisdictions as well as hundreds of city municipalities have done so. I encourage the federal government to equally compensate those significant others of gay, lesbian, and heterosexual domestic partnerships as evidenced by shared households, expenses, and joint responsibilities. I have complete confidence that the individuals making these important financial decisions will be just and fair minded.
