He was a good man who cared deeply about our family. He spent the most of his adult life making sure that he provided for us in every way that he could. I am a teacher in the New York City public schools. My girls, and are 16 and 13 years of age respectively. and I worked hard to raise our children well but always with the idea that we hold a responsibility to provide for them should something happen to one of us. We worked for everything that we have. We lived within our means, contributing to our pensions, 401ks, catastrophic insurance, workers compensation insurance, social security and personal life insurance. We have suffered an incredible loss. My husband, my friend, my childrens father was taken from our lives. The Congress has established the Title IV of PL107-42, Victims Compensation, as part of the bailout of the airlines. Public opinion understands that we the victims, will be compensated with enormous sums of money from our government. Our neighbors are talking about us because we are now going to be wealthy individuals albeit without our husbands and fathers. As you well know, this is not the case. As you have established the rules, my family will receive nothing from this fund. I believe the following to be unfair. The twenty four hour rule The subtraction of collateral sources from the amount of compensation without at least a basic award regardless of these sources I also ask where within this rule was a family with a disabled child considered? Demanding that upon application the claimants right to seek further compensation from either the government or airlines with no knowledge of the amount of compensation is undemocratic. No money can replace my husband. I would have no need or desire for any compensation if my husband were here. But I would like to live out the remainder of my life knowing that I can provide completely for my children especially for my developmentally disabled daughter. I respectfully request that the rules set forth be reviewed and a fair and equitable determination of compensation be established. Thank you for your kind attention to this request.
