Saturday, January 19, 2002 9:45 PM I am the mother of , a 25yr. old single FDNY Firefighter, who gave his life to save others in the Twin Towers on 9/11. I am very upset with the U.S. for letting this happen. Many of the people in the U.S. who had the job of protecting it's citizens have been asleep for much to long. It is for this reason that my son and so many others lost their lives that day. Now I hear that he may not be included in the Victims Compensation Fund because he was single. How insane is that. My husband and I, his parents and beneficiary to him, feel that there is no amount of money that will take his place. We also strongly feel that he should be awarded something for giving his life for a country where so many people were not doing there job were he was so heroically performing his. There seems to be no problem sending our tax dollars to rebuild Afghanistan but we, in the middle of our grief need to beg the US to do what is right for its own people. The fact that entire family has been shattered and changed forever does not seem to matter to you. We, like the people of Afghanistan need to rebuild our lives. Please look into your heart and see that each one of the poor victims deserve equal compensation for giving their lives that day. A victim is a victim regardless of whether they are a parent, wife, child, or sibling and should all be treated as such. Be honest and fair and do the right thing. Please don't let my son's death be in vane simply because he was young and not married. Because he was busy serving his city unselfishly, his dream of marrying and starting a family of his own was put on hold. There is only one thing that was more important to than the FDNY and that was his family. Do not dishonor this brave, selfless and heroic person by not including his family as victims.
