Saturday, March 02, 2002 4:35 PM Litigation After reading through the comment section I find that many people are unhappy with the amount of compensation they will receive and threaten to sue the airlines and many more are unhappy because they feel the government has taken away any incentive to sue the airlines. I have just one question, sue for what? For not providing proper security? Realistically, I think it is obvious that the airlines provided exactly the amount of security the American public would tolerate prior to 9/11. Think about it, if either United Airlines or American Airlines had taken it upon themselves to institute the amount of security now in place people would have screamed bloody murder for the inconvenience it caused them. The airline would have lost countless amounts of dollars in business. And, in the end, they would have removed the security. Think not? Have we returned to curb side checkin? I have nothing but sympathy for the victims and their families but this "victims compensation" thing has turned into a fiasco. If your going to compensate these victims then you better compensate all victims of violent crimes. There is no difference in a person dying in a terrorists attack and somebody dying in an armed robbery. There is nothing wrong with helping these people out and that is what charity is all about but "compensation" for what happened? It's not right.
