Sunday, March 17, 2002 4:18 PM comment You know, when I spent not one, but two tours of duty fighting in Viet Nam I wasn't concerned about the fact that I was gay and most of the soldiers I served alongside were straight. It wasn't important. What was important was that we were a group of Americans serving our country to the best of our ability. What a kick in the teeth it is to hear that the same country I so proudly served now has the gall to say that certain of the victims who died on 9/11 "don't count" because they were gay or lesbian. Yet at the same time it is turning its back on these American citizens, it is rushing to embrace non-citizens who were in this country illegally. SHAME ON YOU! By the way, I think that I can speak for many gay and lesbian tax-payers when I say that it has not escaped our notice that while we pay the same taxes as our heterosexual neighbors, we are denied the right to receive many of the benefits those taxes pay for, even while our straight neighbors and their families accept those benefits as if it were thier God given right to be supported by those locked out of the system. I don't know how long you think you can continue to &nbsp 10% of the population and get away with it.
