Victim Compensation after 11th September - from a family

Blank24th November 01

Dear Sirs,

We have been advised by our Police Liaison Officer here in Bath, U.K. that you are seeking comments from families bereaved after 11th September 01. Please find comments attached. Thank you.

Attachment 1:
VICTIM COMPENSATION FOLLOWING 11TH SEPTEMBER 01

Thank you for asking for comments.

We are parents of , a British victim of the attack on the World Trade Centre. had been married to (a U.S. Citizen) for three years, leaving us after this tragedy as the next- to- nearest of kin.

We are pleased to hear that there is the possibility of recognition of the trauma we have suffered. We are now trying to deal with our own suffering as well as helping our son-in-law , who is otherwise completely alone in the world, still living in their home in London. (He had no family of his own, before he married ).

We have been unable to work - my wife is a nurse, and I am a Clergyman of the Church of England, - and have been bombarded with the media because of our "public role" in the community We have incurred expenses of telephone and postage, trying to reply to only the necessary communications. This has been, to put it mildly, a most stressful time.

Although in the immediate aftermath of the disaster, I was tempted to think that if security had been better, this would never have happened, after reflection, I realise that no security is foolproof, where fanaticism prevails. We are most appreciative of the efforts of Mayor Guiliani and his teams for all their heartbreaking and heroic efforts.

Some small measure of compensation would reduce the practical concerns and anxieties that we have. As "second" next of kin, we have no Insurance cover for our daughter's tragic death, nor have we made any approach to any "family Relief Fund" as there are no doubt others in afar worse situation than we are.

We wish you well in this humanitarian gesture of compassion.

Thank you.
