In recent weeks, we have met with many families from our respective Congressional districts who lost loved ones in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11th. A number of these families have indicated their concern that they were either unaware of the comment period or simply have not had enough time to review how the interim plan affects their families. Moreover, many who have had an opportunity to express their concerns have not received adequate feedback from the appropriate officials. In this time of national solidarity with the victims, it is only proper to provide the families with every opportunity to register their thoughts on an issue that will affect them well into the future. Accordingly, we ask that you extend the comment period in order to allow the families of those who were lost to voice their concerns and thoughts.
