Re the Question of Whether Families Should Receive Government Assistance Based on What May Have Already Been Given by Charities: One should have no impact on the other. The families should receive fair and equitable assistance from the government regardless of what they may have already received from charities. What little is being doled out by charities was received directly from the public who wanted to give their own money to help. One should have no impact on the other. If you're taking comments through December, what the government may or may not give is far from "emergency" assistance. 2. Re the Red Cross 9/11 Fund: The only person I have witnessed to even be remotely interested in what appears to be the outright fraud being perpetuated by the Red Cross is the guy on the O'Reilley Factor on FoxNews. He said last night that the Red Cross had $546 Million in the 9/11 Fund, but were only distributing $100 Million to the families. The remainder is being converted solely to the benefit of the Red Cross, used for payroll and administrative expenses. This is a ratio of 20% to families, and a staggering 80% to administrative expenses of the Red Cross. If a member of the public, or a government official/agency did this, it would result in criminal charges. Why is the Justice Dept. allowing them to get away with this? The American public gave generously to the 9/11 Fund so that the full amount, not 20%, would be given to the families. School children in low income neighborhoods held penny drives. Many persons sacrificed and shared what little they had so that the 9/11 families would receive assistance. I read in the Washington Post that the 9/11 Fund had reached $1.6 Billion. Where did the remainder of this Fund go since the Red Cross is now claiming to have only $546 Million? Why has no government agency, the Justice Department, nor anyone on Capitol Hill pursued this problem?
