THE BRAVE

BY: LINDSAY MEDNICK

LOOK AT THE WORLD AROUND US
LOOK AT ITS CRUMBLING WALL
BUILDINGS GOING DOWN IN FLAMES
WITH IT WILL OUR UNITY FALL

WILL WARS GO ON FOR DECADES
OR WILL WE FINALLY REGAIN PEACE
DO YOU WANT TO LIVE IN A HOSPITABLE WORLD
OR ONE THAT WILL EVENTUALLY BECOME DECEASED

EVERYDAY ANOTHER DEATH
ONE TO ADD TO THE GROWING LOT
SADNESS AND MISERY ARE NORMAL EMOTIONS
HAPPINESS AND LAUGHTER HAVE JUST BEEN FORGOT

BUT WHEN A TRAGEDY HAS ENDED
AND IT SUDDENLY BEGINS TO FADE FROM SOMEONES MIND
WHEN THE AMERICAN FLAGS START COMING DOWN
THEN WHAT WILL WE FIND

WILL WE FIND PEOPLE THANKING FIREFIGHTERS
OR PEOPLE PUTTING FLOWERS ON A STRANGERS GRAVE,
WE WILL PROBABLY FIND ADULTS AND CHILDREN LAUGHING
NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT THE DEATHS AND INJURIES OF THE BRAVE

THE PEOPLE WHO RISKED THEIR LIVES
WHO TOOK THEIR OWN LIFE SO A CHILD COULD LIVE
THE ONES WHO WALKED THROUGH THE SMOKE AND THE FIRE
AND GAVE ALL THAT THEY HAD TO GIVE

THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO CHANGED OUR LIVES
BECAUSE THEY GAVE UP EVERYTHING THEY KNEW
THEY DIED AS AN ACT OF KINDNESS,
SOMETHING NOT MANY PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO DO

THEY WALKED INTO FIRE
DRAWN BY THE CRIES
AND FOR THEIR FUTURE,
A TOTAL SURPRISE

DEAD OR ALIVE
WE OWE THEM SO MUCH
WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET THEM
OUR HEARTS THEY WILL ALWAYS TOUCH

THEY GAVE UP FAMILY, EXPERIENCE, AND LOVE
TO DIE FOR THOSE IN NEED
THEY IMPACTED OUR SOULS
AND DID AN INDESCRIBABLE DEED

THEY TOOK THEIR LIFE
AND WALKED INTO DEATH
WITH NO GOOD-BYES
AND ONLY ONE LAST BREATH
