Dear Janusz,

Thank your for your very kind e-mail.

Yes indeed, we are sad and hurting here in the U.S. And we are furious also. As you are aware, we are not very accustomed to these kinds of attacks, so being the first of their kind creates an outrage in this country the likes of which I have never seen. As a very diverse people, we are more unified against these Islamic Extremist Terrorists than ever.

If you like, I can send you a profound PowerPoint slideshow presentation of some of the best photos of the first day, September 11, 2001. It is about 850 KB in size, but it will astound you. It is self-contained and runs, displaying amazing pictures of the attacks, even if you don't own PowerPoint. It was e-mailed to me by a friend. If you want it, let me know and I will e-mail it to you.

I want us to retaliate with force, but I am very concerned that U.S. Military retaliation for these attacks will bring even worse and more vicious terrorist attacks on our homeland.

Also, I grieve for the Fire Fighters and Rescue workers who lost their lives in the minutes after the attacks when the WTC buildings started collapsing. You probably met and competed against some of the very people who have now perished on Sept. 11.

Our country and our government will have to go back to the drawing board and decide how we will proceed in order to survive and eventually thrive in this new environment that is resulting from the September 11, 2001 attacks. These efforts will eventually bring about important and sweeping changes in our freedoms, in our laws, and in nearly every aspect of how we live, work, and play in the U.S.

God willing, Joanna and I will return to Warsaw on December 20, 2001. I will remain in Poland until January 7, 2002. If you want to look us up for dinner that may be possible.

Joanna says Hello. Please give our regards to our friends, Zigmut and his lovely wife. God Bless you all.

Your friend in the U.S.,

Bill

Hello Bill,

I am writing to send you our deep sympathy with all of you in these days of your national tragedy. We are all moved here and can't get over it. We all realize it could have happened to any of us any time anywhere so none of us feel safe now. We hope you are doing well. Once again, we are with you and feel extremely sad.
