Subject: Re: Petition for Peaceful U.S. Response

I don't pretend to know jack about U.S. Foreign policy or Global Politics and
the rise of totalitarian regimes. Even though I've alwasy been fascinated
with the Totalitarian characters that spice up the world we live in. The
fact is though, that we created Bin Laden and others like him in the past,
and probably will create others in the future, fighting the dirty wars that
Americans don't want to get involved in. And then we abandon them and their countries and in ten years or so they turn against us. It happens over and over.

So...what do we do? We are between the proverbial rock now. The
Frankenstein Monsters we have helped to create must be killed before more
damage is done. And in the future, we need to avoid getting into these
quagmires by improving economic, cultural and political ties towards this
part of the world or the Arab world in general than we ever have before.

I could be full of it. Who knows? The gulf between US and THEM is far too
great I fear. THEY hate our way of life as it stands alone, without all the
baggage of the past. Plus, RELIGION is involved. And that mixes with
politcs, etc. like Ike and Tina Turner.

 Hey...how about those Mets?

UNFORTUNATELY, YOUR FALLACIOUS ASSUMPTION IS THAT IF WE DO INDEED REFRAIN FROM RETALIATING THAT THE SUB-HUMANS THAT DID THIS WILL STOP ATTACKING US. IT'S A NICE THOUGHT. IT'S FAR FROM REALISTIC. YOUR MISTAKE IS ASSUMING THAT THEY OPERATE WITHIN THE SAME LOGICAL BOUNDARIES AS DO WE. IT'S A NICE THOUGHT. IT IS COMPLETELY ERRONEOUS. THE LOWER LIFE FORMS THAT ATTACKED US
HAVE SAID IN DOCUMENTED INTERVIEWS THAT THEIR GOAL IS TO BRING ABOUT THE DEMISE OF THE UNITED STATES AS WE KNOW IT. YOU NICE PEOPLE THAT SEND THESE WELL MEANING ALBEIT NAIVE E-MAILS AROUND FORGET THAT WHEN THEY DO SUCCEED IN DESTROYING OUR WAY OF LIVING, (WHICH THEY WILL ATTEMPT TO DO UNTIL THEY ARE
EITHER KILLED BY US OR KILL THEMSELVES IN SOME OTHER DEVASTATING MANNER ON OUR SOIL) THAT THEY WILL COME IN AND THROW YOU A BIG ROLLER SKATING PARTY AND SHOWER YOU WITH ADULATION IN RETURN FOR YOUR SUPPORT. RIGHT. THEY WILL KILL THE MEN AND THEY WILL STONE THE WOMEN UNTIL THEY BOW DOWN TO WHATEVER THEIR NEANDERTHALIC DESIRES MAY BE. (PROBABLY NOT AN ARGUMENT ABOUT WHOSE TURN IT IS TO DO THE DISHES.) I REALIZE THAT THIS COUNTRY OPERATES ON A CHECK AND BALANCE SYSTEM AND THAT YOU PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN UPON YOURSELVES TO DO THE CHECKING. THIS IS NOT THE TIME, HOWEVER, FOR IN-FIGHTING (WHICH IS ONE OF THE REASONS THIS HAPPENED) AS OUR COUNTRY NEEDS TO PULL TOGETHER PLEASE KNOW THE IMPLICATIONS OF YOUR REQUESTS FOR "PEACE" BEFORE YOU START
YOUR PARADE AND IN THE MEANTIME, ENJOY THE FREEDOM THAT YOU ARE FIGHTING SO HARD TO GIVE UP. I WONDER IF OSAMA WILL LET YOU HAVE A PARADE WHEN HE OWNS THE WORLD? HMMM...

The freedoms of which you speak have already been systematically eroding
through a jaded world view known as Neo-Liberalism -- a term known by most
Europeans, but few Americans. What Neo Liberalism amounts to capitalism
with its gloves off. Take a read sometime in something other than the going
mainstream news rags. It is not naive to point to the drastic polarization
of wealth occurring both in this country and world wide. Nor is it naive
to point to the norm in U.S. foreign policy as that which supports military
despots in exchange for cheap crude oil and other unrefined products at the
expense of human rights and any kind of quality of life for the majority
populations of these countries. Nor is it naive to point to the "terrorist"
tactics of the U.S. military in targeting the sophisticated water system in
Iraq -- a maneuver entirely against its civilian population, and our
continued bombing of that country resulting in 500,000 mostly civilian
casualties -- to name just one example of what has constituted U.S. foreign
policy. If the disenfranchised of this world view start taking up arms and
terrorist tactics, I suggest we start looking into the deeper causes of this
occurrance, which I have here tried to exemplify. A change in U.S. foreign
policy would be far more powerful than a protracted war in which many
innocents will perish. Taking on an enemy such as bin Laden starts with
understanding what made him. And that is what has given him his power,
since that has always been his tactic with us.
