I spoke with Paula at her office and she had already spoken with Marissa. Patrick is in school and he called me using his cell phone, so he's OK. Marcus called from school (2 1/2 hours away) worried about us...so everyone is accounted for and safe. I work underground in a secure facility on Fort Belvoir (was not in the Pentagon today), so there is very little threat to my safety. Still not sure at this time about the status of many of my friends who work in the Pentagon... but let's assume that all is well until we hear otherwise. From the TV video and still photos, it looks like they hit the "wedge" of the Pentagon that was recently renovated and where people were just moving back in... that would minimize the tragedy somewhat. The folks in NYC will not fare as well; that will be a tremendous loss of life. The details of these terrorist attacks will take some time before all the details come out; there may be several entities responsible. The USA is so vulnerable to terrorism... this is a long-standing problem that we have not addressed in the past. My guess is that this president will take action once we know who is responsible... but I'm not sure if that will really matter to those families who lost a loved one today.
