September 11 Email September 11 Email: Body The basic content, as unstructured text; sometimes containing a signature block at the end. This is a Black Day. Today, our freedom of life and freedom from fear were taken from us. Taken, as a result of hatred. I am 37 years old and I've never faced these fears before. Oh, I certainly remember the Brezhnev/Nixon cold war days of the early 1970s, when we had practice drills in elementary school to prepare for nuclear attacks by crouching beneath our desks. "Duck and cover," remember? As I recall, though, it was fun. It was a drill. It would always be a drill. As far as I know, those drills have been abandoned from U.S. elementary schools for the last 25 years. After all, they were nothing but drills.... I wonder if Bobby and Billy will think that they're fun, too. And dear Trevor...on your 4th birthday...will you ever know the freedoms that I've known? This was a Black Day. Today, our confidence, pride, and sense of what will never be were indelibly changed. Changed, because of hatred. Think about those words: "what will never be..." now, think about these: "The World Trade Center is Gone." "The Pentagon has been attacked." "50,000 Americans are dead." Our paradigms regarding free-world existence, as well as words that should never be spoken are forever changed. This will always be a Black Day. Freedom and paradigms; words and drills. So many things are different today. Different, because of hatred. Did you notice the difference today, as I did? Did the sky feel a bit different? Were the flowers less fragrant? Was the wine a little less sweet? And did the tears burn more than usual? If so, you weren't alone. I'm not giving up, and I'm certainly not giving in. I love and believe in God and my country. Whomever is responsible for this has not won. And regardless of how strong my spirit is, I'll sure miss the way I used to live. Because of hatred. God Bless. Don't hate. Bob.
