As of this writing individuals have submitted more than 1,500 correspondences. September 11 Email September 11 Email: Body The basic content, as unstructured text; sometimes containing a signature block at the end. Kath- I can't begin to explain the smell. Right now I have all the windows closed and the air condition on with the temp. in the 60's. It's like burnt wire and paper with a little... ummm... I can't place it, but it is so disturbing. Not that it smells everyday, just when the wind is right. I actually have one of those masks. But there is so much asbestos in the air it doesn't help. I panic every night at sundown, because that's when I can see the planes. I went home (Commack) and felt like a coward letting the terrorists have their way with me. Being back I am so unsure, so frightened, my father is the only one who can talk me down from the panic that rips through me. (Right now I can hear the planes working there approach to Laguardia and the hair on the back of my neck is standing on end.) Nice way to live, huh? What you see on the news is sanitized. I am next door to the staging area at St. Vincent's hospital. I have met family of the "missing" and rescue workers. I don't want to repeat their stories. I wish they wouldn't tell me. Because it is these accounts that paralyze me in fear. When family members came up to me and gave me a flyer asking me if I had seen their brother, I didn't know what to do. I just said I would look. Sometimes I feel like I am stuck in this really intense episode of the Saturday morning cartoon, SUPER FRIENDS. Like some diabolical creature has attacked New York City and all these wounded people are walking around in Brooklyn somewhere saying, "Who am I?" "What am I?" with amnesia and the Super Friends are going to save us and round up the amnesia victims and give them back to there families. Something along the lines of, "I would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddling kids." No ... wait that was SCOOBY DOO. Whatever -- you get the point. We are stuck in a real life action movie but there is no real action hero. Get it? Flying has never been safer. You'll be fine. I'll write more later.
