NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. September 11, 2001 was a very scary day at my high school. My principal came on over the PA system and announced that their had been two planes that crashed into the twin towers. We were all shocked. My principal encouraged our teachers to keep teaching and he would keep us informed. His plan went pretty well until he made his next announement. A plane hit the pentagon. He told us what had occured, who they thought had done it and what plane number it was. He also told us that we were allowed to use any phone available to us to contact our families. A few girls in my class began crying and saying that they needed to go down to guidance to call their parents who worked at the pentagon. I was really scared. My dad occaionally visits the pentagon and I figured that he may have gone down there that day. At lunch, I went into the office and tried to call my dad's cell phone; there was no signal. Then I tried to call my house and my brother picked up the phone and told me that my father was okay and wasn't anywhere near the pentagon. My mom was in Arlington and felt the ground shake when the plane hit. I am thankful that my family is safe and I thank God that I have them still. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has changed since September 11. I have a lot more pride for my country. I believe in America more and have faith in her. I want to kick some butt, but I know I have to leave that up to the people in the armed forces. I also respect people in higher places now. I can't thank the rescue workers, armed forces, families, and the President of the United States for their sacrifices. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I think everything should be remembered. I think new textbooks should have a few pages with the vicitims name, age, where they died and what profession they were. I think we should have a memorial service every year in honor of it. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? I did fly the American Flag after the events, now we never take it down. We have it sttached to the top of our garage and have a spotlight on it so the people passing my hosue can see it. My feelings have greatly changed toward the flag. I love it now. It's a symbol of our freedom and strength. It is also a symbol of unity. I feel comforted at the sight.
