NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. The thing I remember most about that morning is the fact that I was sitting on the couch at home watching a program on T.V. after I got the kids off to school and contemplating which room to start cleaning. I was complaining to my friend who was with me that I hated cleaning my 5 & 6 year olds rooms. All of a sudden my husband came rushing in from work and my very first thought is why is he home so early and who got hurt! So I was shocked when he told me that the nation was at war and to turn on the news which I did right away. When I saw all the footage i remember thinking oh my God! What can I do? I wanted to go get my kids from school and hold them tightand never let go. I sat down on the couch and cried for all the lost lives as we watched the # 2 tower come down. All i did after that is call the school to see if they were dismissing school early and was told that they were not unless they were ordered to by the board of education. We live in LaCrosse Wisconsin and I can tell you that evreyone in town here that day was in tears. I know that I prayed for the people in New York and the Pentigon and for those in Shanksville. I also prayed that those responsible would be caught and made to pay for their horrendous actions. I remember thinking what Can I do and the only thing I could think of is pray and give blood. I did both and continue to do both. God bless our nation and our way of life! NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. My life has changed in so many ways. First and foremost My husband and I have become closer with our family. We charish our children more and always keep in mind that no matter what happens in our lives we need to always tell our children, family members and eachother how much they mean to us, no matter how mad we get at one another. Holding grudges for others past actions just makes our hearts bitter and it is better to forgive and tell that person that you love them no matter what, than have something horrifing happen and never be able to tell them at all. We have learned this and are teaching the boys this as well. I love our nation and I'm sure that everyone else in the USA does to! NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? I thik that even though none of us will ever forget the terrifing pictures or our memories from that day or the weeks that followed that we should all remember that those who lost their lives that day did so with pride and love for our nation and a great deal of courage. We should remember that and always try to honor their memories. I also saw our nation pull together in such a profound way and help eachother through it. We should always remember that the strong cannot be defeated and we as a nation are strong. We should also remember to tell those close to us how much we care everyday. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? My feelings for the American flag have changed dramatically. I used to think of it as just another flag but it is indeed not just another flag and not only does it represent freedom and courage but strength and love and honor and pride for every person that has ever lived in this great nation or for those that will continue to come here to live after us. Each fiber of our flag represents every person that has lost their lives for us and our nation. We could not find a flag for a couple of months after the Septemeber 11th tragedy.
