NMAH Story NMAH Story: Story How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your experience. When my mom left for work that morning she forgot to turn off the TV. When my daughter and I woke up and went into the living room The Today Show was on. I think it was some interesting topic that day so I left it on while we ate our breakfast and played puzzles on the floor. I remember Katie and Matt were talking and all of a sudden everything was sort of confusing and they switched to a view of the WTC and it was smoking. I turned up the volume and heard them saying that they had no idea what had just happened for sure but that a plane had crashed into the WTC. The look on Katie Couric's face was one I will never forget . It was a look I had never before seen and have seen so many times since that day. I continued to watch as the second plane crashed into the second tower right before my eyes and as reports came from the Pentagon and Pennsylvania of the other crashes. I don't think I have ever watched so much news in my life. My eyes were glued to the screen. I called all of my closest friends and family to be sure that everyone was alright and to tell them that I loved them. For me it was a day filled with many new thoughts, worries, emotions, and fears. NMAH Story: Life Changed Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. Since September 11th I have had a whole new outlook on many things. I have experienced for the first time in my adult life true pride in my country. For that I am ashamed as well as proud and I think I'm not alone in that. Don't get me wrong- I have always been grateful for my freedom and for the people who work every day to make our country a safe place for us to live, but the severity of that respect and gratitude has grown tremendously and with that I have learned to love America. NMAH Story: Remembered What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? Everything. Everyone's own experiences, stories, images, feelings, just EVERYTHING. NMAH Story: Flag Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September 11th? Oh, without a doubt. I am so proud to see that flag wave. I get tears in my eyes and chills on my arms just to imagine it.
