911DA Story: Story
I was out of town traveling for my job when the towers were struck. I am originally from Phila Pa and can tell you that being away from my family during this time was the worst time of my life. I couldn't believe what I was seeing on TV. We were sent home from work in the early am, in time enough due to the hour difference, to see the second plane hit the tower. I sat mesmerized in front of the tv all day and into the night. I never made it to work the next day because I was too upset. I didn't even know anyone who was touched by this tradgedy and couldn't even begin to walk in the shoes of those who had loved ones affected by 9-11. My 9th wedding anniversary was the 12th but who could think of celebrating anything after this event. I was due to fly home on the 15th and back out to Milwaukee again on the 18th but was terrified of getting on a plane. My husband ended up driving out for a week to calm me down and I finally ended up flying home two weeks later. Even today well over a year later I still remember those events like it was yesterday. Something always reminds me of 9-11, whether its a glance at office buildings or just watching people on thier way to work, even a ride in an office elevator makes me wonder what people in the trade center were thinking when all hell broke loose. I think everday as I go about my daily routine that these people were doing the same thing and this could have happened in any major US city. I'll never forget the footage of people jumping out of the towers and images of people posting pictures of the loved one around New York city. These memories will remain with me forever.
