Title A name given to the resource September 11 Digital Archive Stories Description An account of the resource This collection is the bulk of the archive, representing the reactions and experiences of thousands of individuals beginning in 2002. 911DA Story 911DA Story: Story Tell us about what you did, saw, or heard on September 11th. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I am a nurse and I was at work when my husband who is a police officer had called to tell me that a plane had hit the first tower. We, of course, felt immediate concern for those involved and remembered thinking what could have gone wrong for a plane of that size to be flying that low and hit the tower. Then it wasn't very long before he called again and said another tower was hit. I remember thinking, this is no accident. Then as the rest of the events unfolded that day, it was so overwhelming. I remember thinking that I just wanted to do something to help and to show that America was bigger than this. It was unbelievable to see how americans united and rallied to the cause. It seemed that every home, business, and vehicle had some type of patriotic symbol. Some were flags, wreaths, ribbons, bumper stickers and some were a very obvious mixture of all of these. It was evident that even those who couldn't be at the sites of the towers, Washington or Pennsylvania , wanted to do something to offer support. I also remember trying to explain these events to my 7 year old son, and trying to re-assure him. I also remember feeling a renewed love for my country and for the men and women who have given themselves in life and death for our freedom. I saw a fire of patriotism burn in the hearts of a youth that had never experienced true casualties of war, my generation. Generation X was called to wake-up, stand-up and love our country. Now one year later, I pray that our generation never forgets what that fire feels like. And through it all, I know God is in control and that He loves us. He was the one steadfast thing through everything. The only source of comfort in this time was my faith in Jesus Christ and the knowledge that he loves and cares for me. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
