Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On sept 11 2001, I was woke up, by my husband to the terrible news of a plane crashing into the first tower! We watched the whole terrible terrible episode unfold. My husband was diagnosed on aug 10 of aml luekemia. We were right in the middle of trying to get him into remission and get him ready for a bone marrow transplant. On this particular day my husband was at the point in his treatment when we went to his oncologist to check his counts and on this day he needed platelets because of the chemo he had only a count of 6. For people who dont understand what I am saying, a normal platelet count is over 150. Platlets keep you from bleeding to death so very necessary! We showed up to the hospital to get his I.V. of platelets and we were told by the hospital that all the blood and platelets were all being shipped to new york because of the tragedy. It was the sadest day for new york and very scary for my husband and I. It ended up that the doctor made the hospital get him some platelets from the red cross. This sounds really funny but, on this day, I didnt feel so alone with our problem, because there was so many people suffering as we were!
