Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On the morning of September 11, when the first plane hit the Trade Towers I was in my car on my way to school. When I got there one of my classmates asked if I had heard what was going on, I had no idea what he was talking about, but as soon as I entered my classroom for Child Psychology and saw the television I began to get nervous. At that point, the second plane hadn't hit and it wasn't clear whether this was an attack or an accident. My professor chose to turn off the television and have class. By the time, class was over it was very clear to everyone that America was under attack. My school came together like they never had before. It was my senior year there and this was the first time that I had felt like Anna Maria College was a community. We gathered in the Performing Arts Center and watched the tragedy unfold on the screen there. My sense of community was enhanced when I was suddenly bombarded by people making sure I was okay because I had gotten married to a sailor only 5 months before. My friends and professors knew that, at that moment, he was on deployment, but no one knew where he was and they were all praying for his safety. Now, one year later, my husband is on another deployment. This one much different from the one of last year. He is fighting in the war against terrorism along with thousands of other military members. I pray for him and all others, as well as everyone who was affected by the attacks that took place one year ago today. It breaks my heart to know that there are so many people that have lost loved ones as the result of senseless acts of violence. It does not particularly make me feel any better that we are fighting back because no matter how long we fight we will not get back those who were lost, but maybe ridding the world of as much evil as possible will make the world a better place for the children that my husband and I will someday bring into this world.
