I don't know what the  'progressive alders' have said about this, but if they suggest that acrimony will ensue if a resolution is introduced, it probably will. If it is, in fact, "easy to be quiet and tolerant of the abuses of the US government," then MAPC could force the issue. A resolution could be introduced, debate and a vote would follow. It would generate a lot of attention--much like the pledge flap (which wasn't a "ban," but that didn't stop it from being reported that way). I've seen the language of resolution and think that it is pretty tame, really. But anyone who is committed to precipitating a debate on this issue in the Madison Common Council should prepare for the possibility of a media storm and a lot of harsh attention.
