Title A name given to the resource September 11 Digital Archive Stories Description An account of the resource This collection is the bulk of the archive, representing the reactions and experiences of thousands of individuals beginning in 2002. 911DA Story 911DA Story: Story Tell us about what you did, saw, or heard on September 11th. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was sitting at my desk typing in the regular daily invoices for our Accounting Department when my two co-workers ran behind me shouting, "The WTC had been hit!" I turned up the radio on my desk and the local morning show confirmed the first plane crashing into the WTC. I headed for the conference room at my place of work and everyone was there watching the big screen TV as the second plane hit. Through that whole time, I kept telling myself, "Wake up! Wake up! It's only a dream!" or "This is a movie! Leave the theater!" How much I wished that I could have done either one of those things to make this horrible day leave my memory forever. While watching everything unfold in New York and Washington DC, we received news that one of our co workers' family members was working at the Pentagon and they had no way to find out if they were alive. Sadly, we found out a several days later that they had died as soon as the plane hit the building. After watching the towers collaspe, I ran from the conference room and I called my mother in Indiana. I told her that I loved her and my father very much and if I could, I would leave right now to be with them. I cried along with my mother during our conversation not knowing what would happen next and if I would ever see them again. After seeing all that happened during the morning of September 11, I knew that I would have to do something that would be a benefit to the families and victims. Since I couldn't go to New York to help, I decided that I could do something locally. I went to the American Red Cross and donated blood and then donated a blanket and water to a local trucking firm that was going to deliver goods to the people in New York. This gave me a sense of accomplishment that I knew would someone a world of good in a time of tragedy. To the people of New York, Washington, DC and their families, your strength and courage are an inspiration to us all. We love you and God bless.
