It's was 11:22 a.m. when I heard these words, my boyfriend had just woken up and came downstairs. I looked down and noticed I was holding a full teaspoon of sugar in one hand and a now ice cold cup of coffee in the other. I had been standing there like that, preparing my first cup of coffe for the day. I had turned on the T.V.and I heard newscasters and then the screen came into focus,a plane turning straight into the World Trade Tower (the 2nd tower). My boyfriend kept asking me "Whats wrong"? Then he must have started to realize what was being said on the T.V. we stared in pure disbelief.I don't remember what my boyfriend did the rest of the day or when he left me alone in the kitchen or if he did. On September 11,2001 I was 28 and like many others, endured many a heartbreaks,lost loved ones,and have my share of bad childhood stories and have thrown myself numerous Poor Pity me Parties and enjoyed them, but this day I was experiencing feelings unknown to me yet I allowed these feelings instead of shouting them out like in the past, I actually welcomed them. Today 1 year later I am able to say the feelings I went through last year were not only those of Compassion, Fear and Emptiness more importantly they were those of a Human Being. All I know is September 11,2001 changed all our lives forever, we joined together as a nation, took notice and united as a country and although I was born and raised and have always lived in the USA, September 11, 2001 brought a new definition to myself I AM AN AMERICAN, and god forgive me for taking 29 years to understand and grasp the true meaning of what an American truely is and you have my word I will never forget again.
